When I looked over my ePortfolio, I couldn’t believe how many pieces of writing I have completed over the course of the semester. I don’t think I have ever written that much in one semester before. When the semester began, I didn’t think this class would change a single thing about my writing. I believed my writing would stay how it has always been. I also believe my writing process wouldn’t change one bit. I have realized that I was wrong. In fact, not only do I think my writing process has changed significantly. I also believe my writing has improved in direct correlation to my improved writing process. I hope it is very evident in my writing that Writing 101 has completely changed the quality of my writing.
At the beginning of the semester, writing was very difficult for me. Writing seemed to be an impossible task. It would take me forever to come up with a good piece of writing. Throughout this course, I have learned that my writing process was slow and inefficient. I often waited to the last minute and wrote a paper in one sitting. I know now that the proper way to write a paper is to take it in stages. I learned that if I took my time and wrote the paper would be so much better. Just going back and reviewing my writing before turning it in payed huge dividends. Another important lesson that I learned the hard way is that I couldn’t the same writing process for every single paper. Every paper is different, and I realized that every process need to be unique to

Today I look at my identity and I am a whole different person when it comes to writing. I take my time. If I don’t like something I take the time to fix it by deleting and retyping until it sounds the way I want it to. I no longer settle for an “okay” paper. I want every time I write
When writing a paper it can be very difficult unless you break it up into sections. When I had to write my first paper I felt like a man on a desert island all alone without a clue on how to do anything. But with the help of a few teachers they taught me how to survive on the island of writing papers. What the teachers taught me was that just like everything in life it needs to be taken in steps. The steps they taught me still apply to the papers I write to this day.
In this class, I have learned many new skills to improve my writing, and I have also learned new grammar rules. In regards to my writing, I have learned the importance of freewriting when beginning to write a paper. Additionally, I now know to allow ample time for revising and editing because I can look at my work critically for mistakes and make necessary changes. Furthermore, I have learned about grammar rules such as pronoun-antecedent agreement. This rule is something that I know subconsciously, but being made aware of it has allowed me to find mistakes I make more often.
I saw how simple errors can vastly adjust a person’s opinion about a topic, therefore I will work harder to catch these errors before I turn in a draft. I also learned how crucial thoroughly explaining the aspects that I bring up in my paper are. I have not seen the final copies of our class’s papers, however I heard from the conferences that we missed some items that needed to be better explained. We thought that since some of the drafts did not have enough pictures, that the pictures they would add would help the reader to understand what they were trying to say. Similarly to my last reflection, I still believe that people learn to be exceptional writers by learning the mechanics, reading eloquent works, and revising their own papers. I will continue to develop my papers and hope that the editing process has helped with
One of the reasons why became confident in my writing is because I started writing about what I
Looking back, I wish I could make my writing more entertaining. I'm not the best writer, but I tried. Still, I don't think it was that
At the beginning of the semester in English class we discussed and learned different ways to improve our writing skills, and become more proficient in editing papers. The most helpful lesson my professor taught me was how to improve my papers with just a few steps. I learned that it takes more than one revision to get the perfect paper, and therefore you should at least revise three times. I also learned that everything should be in paragraph form even if it is only one page, before this class that was a mistake I made a lot, I had thought that if something was one page I could just write one big paragraph.
English 101 presented me with the book, Writing about Writing, which has expanded my knowledge on how to plan and properly revise a paper. For example, Lammott has taught me the importance of a first draft. Her article from the book, Writing about Writing, had an immense impact on my writing. Reading about professional writer’s
This opened my eyes to the fact that I had to conquer this mountain of pages laying on my bedside table; that I had to show that a few hundred words were not going to stop me from impressing my favorite instructor and preparing myself for my future writing experiences. During the weekend before the paper was due, I sat down for three days straight and wrote not only a ten page paper, but a paper shooting past the limit and received a high marking grade on it. The paper did so well that Colonel
Before my English 101 class, I viewed writing as a frustrating assignment obligation. However, this class has taught me that writing is much more than that, instead it stands as a contributing form of communication that is extremely important in my everyday life. The knowledge of writing that I have acquired directly impacts my life as a student now, and my life as a health care provider in the years to come. If I do not use an effective method of writing, I will not be able to deliver information and ideas to others efficiently. Thankfully, this class has allowed me to master learning outcomes that will help shape me as a writer and help myself advance within my communication skills. I have learned various useful information on the subject of writing such as the idea that there is no one correct way to write. Instead, there are ways of writing that are acceptable in different situations. I can say that after this semester, I am successfully able to structure my papers in a way that transition clearly and efficiently for my readers to understand. Also, I have learned to incorporate an evident thesis within my work and analyze different genres and point of views.
Since I simply let my thoughts flow, looking back and reviewing what I had written was an interesting
As I’ve grown as a writer over the semester, I have proven to myself that making time to redraft is critical to the quality of my work. Attempting to finish a paper in a day will never result in work that has the same polish and clarity as a paper that has received continual work, peer reviewing, rethinking and rearranging structure, and
Next, I learned writing is a process where as before I would just write a paper and be done with it. First, I start with brain storming and make a bullet pointed list of what I may include I my paper. Then the first draft comes flowing out. I type whatever comes to mind. I write until I have covered every idea I think is important for the paper. Then I take a break from the paper because I need to clear my head and come back with fresh eyes. When I come back I read through the paper. I change up sentence structure, delete parts, add parts, better explain my points, and highlight any part that I
Over the course of this semester, I grew immensely as a writer. I have learned what my weak points are as a writer, what my strengths are, and how I can revise a paper using resources. I have learned how to organize my thoughts and give clear, vivid details. Also, I have learned that the paper is only as good as the ideas behind it. Throughout this semester, all aspects of my writing have changed.
