Egyptians appeared to care a great deal about the way they looked. Pharaohs had their own hairdressers and manicurists and cosmetics was big business. Archaeologists have unearthed mirrors, hair pins, makeup containers, brushes and other items. On special occasions ancient Egyptians wore greasy cones of fragrance on their head that melted in the heat and dripped perfume on their wigs. To decorate their eyes, the Ancient Egyptians used black and green paints. The black paint was derived from powdered galena (now known as kohl) and it was supposed to protect eyes from the hot sun. The green paint was derived from malachite powder (a green coloured mineral) and was used because it would make eyes appear larger. In addition, green paint was believed to invoke the eye of Horus, the god of The Sky & Sun and also of healing. For this reason, the Egyptians thought green paint would protect those who wore
The two short stories, Lamb to the Slaughter by Roald Dhal and Harrison Burgeron by Kurt Vonnegut are written with varying purposes. Lamb to the Slaughter was written to portray the theme of betrayal, and the power that the pain holds in the mind of the victim. Harrison Burgeron was written to depict the futuristic society in which the story is set. Both authors use different contexts and forms of writing to ultimately portray the main themes of their story.

Children in Ancient Egypt used to wear no clothing, they did this until they were 6 years of age when the kids would wear clothing like their Fathers or Mothers to protect them from the extremely hot and humid weather that they got in Egypt but also from the short period of cold weather. The idea of cosmetology and beauty was commenced by ancient tribal hunters. It is believed that they would smear ash under their eyes and use animal urine to alter their smell. This is where the idea of eyeliner and perfume originated (Schurman). Around the world cosmetology is being introduced like Egypt is suggested to be one of the most ancient culture that associates with cosmetics. Make up to them was really significant especially to the royal egyptians. Their idea of eyeliner was made up of lead, ash and mercury. The use of this eyeliner helped reduce glare, prevent any type of infection, and mostly to make their eyes beautiful (Schurman). Now the Chinese ancient culture had mixtures of natural ingredients to produce stimulating nail polish. The nail polish to these people were sign of wealth (Murphy). In ancient Rome and Greece those who could afford it would receive baths in lotions. They wore perfume, face powder, blush, eyeliner, and lipstick. During this period it was discovered that oils, lotions, and animal fat have beautification properties (Schurman).
Ever since the finding of pigments and color in plants, plants have been used to alter the colour of people’s hair. It has been vocalized that Cleopatra colored her hair with “henna before bathing in the Nile” (Adams 1). Contrasting types of plant specimens, such as wood ash and oak, were being used to colour the different hues of hair. During the time of the Roman Empire, both men and women began to give up their customs and traditions of simplicity and frugality. Many of these men and women wanted to find ways to ornament themselves.
Ancient civilizations and empires have captured the eye and attention of historians for hundreds of years. From the lost civilization of Alexandria to the ever-present myth of Atlantis (fact or fiction?), history that has grown has caught the eye of many. Particularly, Ancient Egypt seems as rich in history and secrets as Greece or Rome. Egypt and modern day America don’t hold as many similarities as one might think, but they seem entangled together regardless of differences.
The life of ancient Egyptians, despite some of their very unique customs, is quite similar to the basics of living today. In Society, many are concerned about the high percentage of crimes that are committed, we tend to turn immediately to our youth thinking that if we somehow manage to keep youth under control we will deter crimes. As discuss in chapter 9 and the OJJPD reports, the juvenile justice system had determined that by waiving and transferring minors who commit crimes to criminal courts to be tried and punished like an adult, there would be a decrease on violent crimes. On the other hand, there are many intake alternatives and diversion programs that can be considered instead of crowding up the criminal courts with juveniles delinquents.
