Atticus is an excellent father that Jem and Scout are very proud of. He has everything needed to be one, as he truly cares about Jem and Scout, treats them with respect, and teaches them valuable life lessons. Without Atticus' influence, Jem and Scout would have never had the chance to learn about the “real” world.
Through the eyes of Jem and Scout, Atticus is a truly loving and caring father. Out of Atticus’ busy job, he always tries to spend more quality time with his children. Atticus was fifty years old, but he knows that "Jem was football crazy. Atticus was never too tired to play keep-away" (118). Also, by saying that "[Atticus and Scout] will go on reading just as [they] always have" (41) shows that he takes time

Jem and Scout learns from Atticus to never give up on what you believe in. Through defending Tom Robinson, against everyone in Maycomb, they understand that “the one thing that doesn’t abide by majority rule is a person’s conscience” (140). There are no rules against someone’s own feelings. Even though he does not win the case, he shows Jem and Scout how to accept moral responsibilities with courage. Lastly, the most significant message Atticus teaches is that it is a sin to kill a mockingbird. Some people dedicate their lives to help others, but are treated unfairly. The first mockingbird Jem and Scout discovers is Tom Robinson. Tom faces racial inequality during the trial. All he did was to help Mayella, a lonely and helpless girl, but is accused of rape. This is equal to destroying innocence and purity; destroying a mockingbird. The ultimate symbol of a mockingbird, however, is Boo Radley. Boo symbolizes a mockingbird, who "don't do one thing but sing their hearts out for us" (119). From the Radley's house, he simply observes the world around him. Not only is he harmless, but he is also courageous, as he saves Jem and Scout'
a. Atticus is a wise man, committed to justice and equality, and his parenting style is based on fostering these virtues in his children—he even encourages Jem and Scout to call him “Atticus” so that they can interact on terms as equal as possible. Throughout the novel, Atticus works to develop Scout’s and Jem’s respective consciences, through both teaching, as when he tells Scout to put herself in a person’s shoes before she judges them.
In To Kill a Mockingbird, the mockingbird symbolizes Boo Radley and Tom Robinson. Boo Radley is symbolized by the mockingbird in two different ways. The first reason that he resembles the mockingbird is that throughout the book, he does not harm Jem or Scout, and actually helps them. This is like a mockingbird because mockingbirds provide beautiful music for us to enjoy, and are not a vicious animal. When Jem, Dill, and Scout snuck into the Radley yard, Boo helped cover up their tracks. After Mr. Nathan Radley shot at Jem, Jem lost his pants. When he returned to get his pants, Jem found them hung neatly on the fence, sewn up by Boo. Boo also gave the children gifts through the tree. He placed items, including soap dolls, chewing gum, a medal, a watch,
Jem and Scout see their father in a whole new light after they see him shoot. They realise that Atticus’s age does not hold him back, but instead he chooses not to hunt because he has an unfair advantage over most living things. Atticus keeps his talent quiet because he was not proud of his ability. Things are not always as they seem when it comes to Atticus and it becomes clear he is not the man Scout and Jem assumed him to
During the story, “To Kill a Mockingbird” Atticus Finch represented a man of less words and more of an action. He believed that his kids should be respectful and kind and do as he says. Throughout the story the reader follows Scout and Jem through their journey. Even though Scout and Jem did certain things they were not supposed to do, Atticus saw that they would not do it again and that they were mature enough to handle the situation.
Atticus is a wise father and helps his children accept people no matter how they look or act. This is evident when he says “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view.” (Lee 33). Throughout the novel, Jem and Scout mature at different paces. Atticus guides his children as they begin to grow and mature. “It ain’t right, Atticus,” said Jem.” “No son, It’s not right.” (Lee 243). When Atticus lost the case, Jem expressed how he felt. He had tears on his face. Here was a turning point for Jem because he was old enough to understand the case. Atticus comforted him and agreed it was not right. Atticus shows affection towards his children when they saved him from trouble with “the mob”. “As they passed under a streetlight, Atticus reached out and massaged Jem’s hair, his one gesture of affection.” (Lee 176). At first, Atticus may have been frustrated with his children being at the office. Then, their innocence saved him. Atticus has many characteristics and is a loving father. Atticus displays a valuable lesson about equality and fairness for his children.
Scout and Jem kids of Atticus was taunted and bullied at school because of their father’s decision to defend a black man. Atticus tries to instill a sense of morality and value in his kids. The children viewed their father as a nerd until he was asked by a cop to shoot a dog that was roaming the street. After Atticus kills the dog, his kids learned of his skills and was amazed at what their father could do. Atticus chooses not to use his skills until it was necessary for him to do so.
Firstly, Atticus is a good father for Scout and Jem because Atticus is a father that sets good examples for his children. Throughout the whole course of the story, Atticus has to defend himself and the family for what they believe in. Atticus wants the children to “take notes” after him, so they learn to do the same thing. “Scout, simply by the nature of the work, every lawyer gets at least one case in his lifetime that affects him personally. This one’s mine, I guess…”
“I’d rather you shot at tin cans in the back yard but I know you’ll go after birds. Shoot all the bluejays you want if you can hit em, but remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.” In Harper Lee’s, To KiIl A Mockingbird, a family of three living in a town called Maycomb surpass the challenges that come, when your father is the only one that believes in equality for all in a town filled with racism, and injustice. This father’s name is Atticus Finch. He believes everyone deserves equality no matter wha. Through many challenges that Atticus faces he shows continuously that he is a good father. Let’s take a look.
Atticus Finch is a kind, gentleman that was going to do what was right no matter what obstacles stood in his way. Atticus hates the idea of someone not having the justice they deserve. Scout and Jem are his top priority and he wants them to be good people instead of conforming to the ways of the world. Taking on this trial leaves Atticus with the heartbreak of knowing it will ruin his beloved children’s innocence and outlook on the world. Atticus wants his kids to understand that you can’t let everything anger you.
Throughout the novel, Atticus teaches his children the importance of respect and acceptance of individual differences through daily conversations and his own actions. His words of wisdom expand his children’s empathy and equip them with a broader view of mankind. These teachings are progressively exemplified as both Jem and Scout experience coming of age. During their early years, when summer was dependent on the arrival of Dill, Atticus warns the children to stop playing the “Boo Radley game”. It is then that he first introduces the idea of “climbing into his skin and walking around in it” (Lee pg#).
Mexico has many fascinating things about it. The most interesting to me, is the language and food. The word "Mexico" is derived from the word “Mexica” (pronounced "Me-shee-ka"), the name for the native group that settled in central Mexico in the early fourteenth century and is best known as the Aztecs.
The Mockingbird has a very deep and powerful meaning in Harper Lee’s novel To Kill A Mockingbird. It represents peacefulness, innocence and kindness which is portrayed through the characters of Boo Radley and Tom Robinson. The mockingbird's influence can also be applied to the relationships between humans. The Mockingbird is a powerful symbol that echoes a strong meaning throughout the novel.
Atticus is a great parent. He does many things that make him a great parent such as, being respectful, giving great advice, and he is very caring. To begin with, Atticus does not expect the respect of his children but earns it, this is shown many times, but the best example is when he tells Scout “We’ll go on reading as we always have.” (pg.41) he is showing he respects Scout because he believes she is smart enough to read and agrees more with Scout than her teacher. Secondly, he gives them great advice, when Scout is upset about her teacher telling her not to read, Atticus tells her that she will get along with people better if she can climb into their skin and walk around in it. He makes her understand what is happening in her life and resolves her issue. Lastly, Atticus is very caring.
A moral that Scout should be living by, by now is you should hold in your anger. Again he set a moral for scout and Jem by taking the Tom Robinson case because he takes it because if he didn't he would feel bad and he couldn't just deny a person's chance to be free because of the color of their skin. Atticus went through with representing Tom Robinson knowing he would probably lose the case. This sets a moral value for Jem and Scout because I shows you should still try no matter what you think the outcome will be. I believe the biggest moral Atticus teaches Jem and Scout is to judge yourself before judging
Many cities in America are facing sluggish economic recovery, stagnant or failing wages among the lowest-income earners and budget constraints for social welfare programs (1)resulting in more than 46.7 million people in poverty. Poverty in America, and the violence and crime that stems from it helps sustain the most prosperous and corrupt industry of them all, prisons.
