In the story J.R.R Tolkien Bilbo Baggins is starting to become a hero unexspeticaly. The reason I said unexspetricaly is because Bilbo did it not knowing that he was. Bilbo started to act more brave, smart, and started to be more of a leader than a follower an example of being a leader and not a follower is like say your in class and you see someone eating in class knowing you are not supposed to a follower would do it to and a leader would not do it because you already know it’s not allowed.
BIlbo baggins is being a hero by being more brave. Bilbo is being more brave because in chapter 14 it says how Bilbo and the dwarves went to fight these dragons and Bilbo helped by spotting out the danger. What Bilbo did was very dangerous but instead
Bilbo showed bravery throughout the story in many ways. Bilbo was willing to play the riddle game with Gollem, which could be a good or bad thing. He took the Arkenstone and hid it, then later used it to repay for Smaug’s damages to the town. Bilbo was really brave when he was going to Smaug. He even said to himself, “Going on from this is one of the bravest things I’ve ever done.”
Blibo is turning into a hero by being able to go through the hero’s journey process and he is also beginning to become more heroic with different things. First, the readers know that he is going through the process of the hero’s journey; Bilbo has gone through the call to adventure when Gandalf sent the dwarves to his house, his assistant was Gandalf so him and the dwarves could go on the journey, departure was when he was going from the Hobbit-land to the Smaug’s mountain, and he is still in the trails which is the start of initiation position and he just really fought a “monster”. In the TED talk video it says “Joseph Campbell was studying the hero’s journey and noticed that all of the heroes were taking the same circular pattern to be successful.”
Many of us 7th graders think of a hero as something that has super powers. That is not always what a hero is, they could be the protagonist in a book. A hero that means a lot to me is Bilbo. Bilbo is the protagonist in the book "The Hobbit". This book is one of my favorite and I really enjoy reading it. The book is a very challenging but enjoyable at the same time. The hero's journey is the path or route that a main character takes in a book to become a savior or hero at the end of the book.
Have you ever wanted to be a hero? Or wandered what it was like? There are a lot of different ideas that people have about being a hero. Some will say you’re a hero if you help somebody when you’re not thinking other yourself. Others might think of fighting big dragons and mythical monsters. Both are correct, but we’re going to look at the mythical version. Based on the hero characteristics Bilbo Baggins, in The Hobbit, is both like and dislike an archetypal hero. Bilbo is not much of a mighty warrior, he’s never had fight training of any sort, the only way he gets into a huge adventure is because of Gandalf, a famous wizard, Bilbo goes on a great journey with 13 dwarves and sometimes Gandalf, which creates him into a hero.
Bilbo is progressing into a hero because of his escape from Gollum. For instance, even though Bilbo had on the ring that made him invisible it takes courage to follow a monster after they are hungry and angry about you. Plus every superhero has a super power, so the ring that he stole from Gollum could be his superpower. And since Gollum could not find his ring he rowed his boat to the shore, and Bilbo quietly and sneakily followed because he knew that Gollum would lead him to the exit. So when Bilbo finally reached the exit he jumped over Gollum to escape his evil lair. Therefore, Bilbo progresses into being a hero by escaping Gollum’s lair by using his intelligence and courageousness of following him.
When you think of a hero, is the first character to pop in your head a little hobbit named Bilbo Baggins? In most cases, people think of Superman or Hercules, but in The Hobbit, an unexpected hero emerges and changes the name for all heroes to come. The Hobbit is a novel about Bilbo Baggins and his journey, with thirteen dwarves and a wizard, seeking the treasure stolen by the dragon, Smaug. While on this unexpected journey, Bilbo and his companions overcome many obstacles to eventually get to the treasure and retrieve it. Throughout the story, Bilbo develops into a courageous man, who indeed, is a hero. Richard Tyre wrote an article, “You Can’t Teach Tolkien,” and he explains his theory in which he connects multiple story’s plot with six elements. The Hobbit, is assuredly a prime example of Tyre’s theory because it follows all six steps throughout the story simultaneously. The six elements are; “(1) those who hunt for treasure, (2) must go alone, (3) at night, (4) and when they find it, (5) they must leave some of their blood behind, (6) and the treasure is never what they expected” (Tyre 19). These elements are steps in which a character must take to emerge into a hero in the end. Bilbo Baggins is the hero in The Hobbit, but he doesn’t start off as the hero. He has always had heroic traits but throughout the novel, he pursues those six steps and in the resolution, he is transformed into an actual hero.
A hero is brave. Meaning, in chapter two of “The Hobbit”, Bilbo decided to be the burglar everyone thinks of him and pick-pockets the trolls. However, Bilbo did get caught by the trolls, the “gang” thought he was a hero for trying. For example, let’s say I took a test and got a poor grade, but I tried my best, my teacher would still be happy that I tried
Heroes are usually the strong and muscular kind of people but not Bilbo Baggins The bravest one of them all Bilbo Bilbo is a small hero he is not strong buff or the bravest of them all he is just an ordinary dwarf but the only difference is that he is braver than all of the other dwarfs because of one little quest to get something back that belonged to him a long time ago he starts being to hero when he goes to the trip with Gandalf.
In every story, there is the hero, a man of strength, courage and swordsmanship who slays dragons and saves princesses. However, in The Hobbit you have the most unlikely, unexpected hero. Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who resides in his hobbit hole and lives an ordinary and exceedingly comfortable life. You would not expect a creature of his size and stature to save kingdoms and lands. But he inevitably gains strengths and abilities that enable him to become a hero. Much like him is Frodo Baggins, Bilbo’s younger nephew. He is also an unusual, non-traditional hero. Bilbo and Frodo both sought for adventures gained courage, perseverance, and were loyal and true to their companions. Although, Bilbo had more external conflicts in his adventure and Frodo experienced more of an internal struggle in his adventure, they both shared one common characteristic: they were traditional heroes that became non-traditional in the end.
(Ashton, 92). Specific characteristics come to mind when one envisions are hero, such as extraordinary strength and great courage. Heroes most commonly receive recognition for notable talents and remembered for their astonishing deeds and accomplishments. For example, Superman possesses superhuman strength, speed, and the ability to fly, qualities most frequently associated with heroes. However, not all heroes fit this model. Just a small hobbit from The Shire, Bilbo Baggins does not possess any great strengths or abilities, and many would view Bilbo as the antithesis to Superman. In J.R.R Tolkiens, The Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins portrays an unlikely hero due to his small size and stout appearance, his cowardly personality, and his tendency to appear as an onus to the group. However, through his actions of bravery, Bilbo demonstrates that anyone, no matter what size or shape, can perform heroic deeds.
Bilbo Baggins, a Hero? The story the Hobbit is one of the best adventure/mythical books out there today. There are many exciting moments and many moments with detail that you can just picture in your mind. Overall the book is a great story.
What is a hero? Is it someone who possesses great strength and bravery, or is it someone who attains fame and wealth? In the world of Middle Earth that J.R.R Tolkien has created, Bilbo Baggins shows us that a hero can be quite the opposite. He is offered (and partially set up by Gandalf the wizard) to partake in an adventure as a burglar to help reclaim the bearded Dwarves’ homeland from the dragon Smaug. The little hobbit is frightened by the mere thought of danger, but the adventure in him ignites and causes him to agree. Through a series of events, Tolkien uses Bilbo’s characterization and ethics to portray the overall theme of heroism.
Joseph Campbell once said, “A hero ventures forth from the world of the common day into a region of supernatural wonder: fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won: the hero comes back from the mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow man.” A hero is willing to take a journey to accomplish something through hard work and determination, no matter how difficult the challenges are. In the critically acclaimed novel, The Hobbit, by J.R.R Tolkien, the protagonist, Bilbo Baggins is described as to be an unlikely hero. Bilbo is thrown into a situation in which he must choose between two different lifestyles and to overcome his fears to accomplish his quest. Throughout the story, Bilbo Baggins undergoes a transformation through the stages of The Hero’s Journey. He moves from safety of Bag End, to risk his life through the vulnerability of the outside world. He no longer has the relative control over his environment and surroundings, but he is still able to come to terms with his adventurous side through the unexpected events of his quest. From the beginning of the storyline to the end, Tolkien describes each stage of the Hero’s Journey and Bilbo’s identifies transformation within them including, The Separation from the Unknown, Challenges, the Transformations, and lastly the Return to the Known World.
“Great heroes need great sorrows and burdens, or half their greatness goes unnoticed. It is all part of the fairy tale.” These words of Peter S. Beagle relate well to Bilbo Baggins, the hobbit burglar, and his unexpected journey with the company of 13 dwarves and one wizard. As a hobbit, Bilbo sought nothing to do with anything outside the Shire, and moreover not to blemish his family's reputation. Previously in the year, the question "what makes a hero?" became answered therefore using these virtues concluded from the inquiry, one can perceive if Bilbo lives up to the label of 'hero'.
Bilbo Baggins is a hero, even though he has some help along the way from his friends. He is courageous because he made his first attempt at burglary from trolls, he puts himself before others and frees his friends from the ElvenKing and he is brave and loyal when he goes down to visit Smaug for the first time to fulfill a promise. I hope I have proved Bilbo Baggins to be
