Effective communication is important in developing positive relationships with children, young people and adults alike. It is the central key to establishing and maintaining such positive relationships. It means listening, questioning, understanding and responding to match each individual’s stage of development, their age, personal circumstances and their needs. It is important for the communication to be on the same level as the person you are speaking to so that neither person seems to have more power than the other. Good communication is not just about listening and speaking, it is also about watching and feeling. Excellent communication builds trust in relationships with all.
With different children in the class you have to make sure to keep each child’s learning to their levels. Keep researching new ways for the children to learn more information each week. Make sure to stay along licensing rules. Get trained in the fields I need so that I will know everything that I need to know for the children. Making sure to have them in a safe place so that they will feel safe there is important. Communication is extremely important in the workplace as it is essential that you develop good communications with everyone. This will then ensure that you develop a strong positive relationship, work well together and be able to share and gain information with each other. This will mean you can all work together to meet the needs of the children, young people and adults in the setting. If you do not have good relationships then it may cause bad feeling and a divide between colleagues. It may be the case that you will all not work well together or be able to share information then the parents and children may suffer. It is important to have good communication with the children in the setting as this ensures you have a good relationship with them which will help them feel more comfortable with us, which will help them settle in or provide reassurance during transitions in their lives as well as supporting them in their play and learning. It is also important that we remember that we are a role model to children and what behaviour we expect of them must be remembered by ourselves. Failing to do so will cause problems for children to understand the boundaries of what is acceptable. If parents see that you have a good relationship with the children it will help them feel more relaxed and helps them to trust us to care for their children.
When working in a setting it is essential that we teach children at a young age that it safe to come to us with any problems that they have. It is a large part of working with the children that they are safe and feel comfortable to be able to confide in you about anything that is troubling them. You need to be able to notice when something is bothering a child from as young as 6 months as they have no way in speech communication with you until the age of 3 and then it’s not clear what they are trying to tell you. Based on my own experience I would like to dive into my position on the issue of childhood communication that directly affects a child’s development and education. Communication is essential to human life. We learn how to communicate first and foremost from our parents, or those who raise us. These people whom we depend on are who determine how we learn to communicate with and understand others. When children are growing up communication is crucial to their innate human nature, and the way they develop as adolescents is a building block to the kinds of relationships they form later in life. Childhood growth and development are indefinitely affected by different environmental and cultural situations in which a child is subject to. When acknowledging the undeniable gaps in maturity between children many factors come into account; money and environment. More importantly my standpoint on this issue would be the idea that children who grow up in a relatively less affluent household/area are more likely to face much more problematic issues with learning and communicating. I argue that the more impoverished an area is the less advanced the communication is between parents and children, but I also believe that there is a disparity between the children who grow up in an affluent setting.
As mentioned prior, students in middle school are going through significant changes. This means that there must be a clear path of communication between the parents/guardians and the educator. Parent-teacher conferences are a great way for parents to be involved in the learning environment. Through these conferences, parents can learn how their adolescent is performing in class. These conferences not only address academic progress, but also behavioral needs. It is common for students to act up for attention or to look cool in the middle grades. With parent-teacher conferences, the parent(s) can be made aware of any negative behaviors that need to be addressed. Another approach is a school newsletter, which I personally really like. Within the newsletter can be important upcoming dates, shout-outs, and relevant information. I really enjoy the idea of newsletters being sent home versus emailed. This is because I have students who do not have internet access at home. It is not fair for those students and parents to miss out if they do not have internet access. The communication line between parents/guardians and the educator is critical in the middle level. It is crucial for me to fulfill my role as an educator and communicating with the families. If I push this topic to the side, it is my student who suffers. It is not fair to my student to suffer if I do not perform my job the proper way.
