Animal Farm is a politically satiric novel that is partly a fable as well. It was written by George Orwell which is an alias of his actual name Eric Blair. In the novel, there is an irresponsible farm owner named Mr. Jones who spends most of his time unproductively and intoxicated instead of taking care of his dependent animals. Eventually, a boar named Old Major sparks the animals into planning a rebellion against the lazy farmer. After Old Major's death, the animals were sorrowful but continued planning for the rebellion. One day, Mr. Jones continued being irresponsible with his animals; however, after Mr. Jones forgot to feed his animals, it sparked the rebellion. Also, no one on the farm was allowed to protest because of the nine pernicious guard dogs he had bred and enlisted in his personal security and militia. Orwell's novel demonstrates that in 1917 in Russia, there were leaders and followers, and in this allegorical novel where animals represent humans, it is clear to see that Napoleon’s tyrannical actions make him a leader and Boxer's submissive actions put him below Napoleon therefore making him a follower. Napoleon was the leader in Animal Farm, but before he assumed total power, he needed to take on little responsibility. He started by taking food from the animals and shared it with only the pigs who were already taking leadership on the Farm. However, for him to reach his supremacy he harmed the animals in many brutal and unacceptable ways. Before Napoleon was able to gain total control over the farm, he had to eliminate his contender to rule in Snowball. Napoleon took Bluebell and Jessie's pups and raised them to be merciless and to obey only him. After he drove out his adversary, he forbade debates and did not let anyone challenge him.
