Materialism is a belief that items are more important than love or life. Daisy loves Tom primarily for his wealth. Persona is how people are viewed from other people. Gatsby is viewed as rich along with the other rumors about him because that’s the persona that characters gave him. Superficial relationships are relationships where they don’t really connect on emotional levels. They have no depth or meaning. Most of the “friends’ in this story barley even know each other.

The narrator Nick Carraway tells the story as he was living in a small cottage beside Jay Gatsby’s mansion. Daisy Buchanan is a woman who does not think she should be able to do anything but be a fool for love. Last but least is Jay Gatsby a man who no one really knows but wish they knew. Gatsby was a man who always thought Daisy belonged to him but in reality she was never his to begin with.
