Our ability to overcome obstacles that arise in our lives is paramount to our survival within our existence while here on earth. People are faced with many hindrances throughout their lives. They happen on a daily basis. Personally, I've been faced with more obstacles than I can count. I overcame them, though. Through my integrity and willpower, I solved these problems.
Adversity is something we will all face. It’ll affect everyone ranging, from myself to characters in a book. Even though going through something so challenging, so painful, and so life changing can be hard, how you chose to handle it affects whether or not you overcome it. Adversity can either break a person or make them stronger; it’s up to their will to fight.
When I was a child I watched as my grandfather passed away after battling with Alzheimer's
Adversity can come in many different forms, whether it’s losing your pencil to losing a limb. Adversity is the difficulties or misfortunes a person may experience in their lifetime. You always see these stories of people overcoming a traumatic experience in their life and turning it into an opportunity for something great. How do individuals overcome adversity? Based on the four individuals this essay will mention, Maya Angelou, Amy Purdy, Stuart Scott, and Emma Carey, there are three main ways people overcome adversity.
When I was younger, I grew up with four grandparents who I could spend time with. As I started to grow older, my grandparents started to deteriorate. My grandmother developed Alzheimer’s, and more specifically dementia. I remember one day at my beach house when I was talking to her, she asked me who I was because she couldn’t remember. She didn’t remember her own grandson. She started to lose all her memory and she had difficulty hearing and speaking. It got to a point where there was no way of communicating with her, and we wondered if she even knew who her own family was. She went through this deterioration for upwards of 5 years, and I it got to a point where I forgot what she was like before she developed the mental disease. I would watch
I have lost my grandpa and have not gotten over the idea of it. When I was in the sixth grade, my grandfather was very sick; he could barely walk. While my grandmother and some other family members went uptown for some household things, food, and medication, I was told to take care of him. Yet, I wanted to play with my friends outside. He told me to go ahead and play, but for some reason I just got mad and slammed the door and left. Around nighttime, I seen an ambulance pull up to my grandparents’ house.
“There is no better than adversity. Every defeat, every heartbreak, every loss, contains its own seed, its own lesson on how to improve your performance the next time,” Malcolm X, and activist overcame adversity by learning from his defeat. Adversity affects our world today too. With our harsh rules and drive to be better, one must strive to succeed and overcome the hardships. While there are many qualities needed to overcome adversity, having faith, keeping composure, and receiving support are vital in order to overcome adversity.
I lived with my grandmother for the first half of my life. She practically raised me. Everyone in our village would talk about how much she spoiled me. She would go out of her way to get what I needed. One day I was playing with my friends, there was food in the house but I just wanted to eat snacks. I complained and whined about it until I got what I wanted she made my uncle go all the way into the city to buy me some snacks even though I could’ve just eaten what was in the house. She was a part of me. We had so much in common. My mom wasn't unable to raise me because she was living in America.
In one instance, my own, adversity is a lot more than losing a football game, breaking up with a girlfriend, my parents divorcing, or even a brother going away to college. For me… my mom got stage three breast cancer.
My grandma had survived a hard life, and yet managed to raise four responsible, well-educated, and successful children. All this she did while working as a respected psychiatric nurse and a state mental health board member. Although she had had and was still overcoming trials in life, I always knew she would be there and cared about me and my life. As my brother and I grew older and were unable to visit my grandparents as often as we
Everyone experiences adversity. Challenges that everyday people experience can potentially shape, improve, or destroy one's sense of self and personality. Through all these hardships and seemingly impenetrable obstacles, the most pertinent component of one's ability to overcome can only be shown in actions taken despite the odds. People have one of two options; to let those obstacles overwhelm them and keep them from pursuing all that they were destined to accomplish, or to march forward, fight harder and push past the seemingly impossible circumstances to become greater than they ever expected to be, but until they take the step that enables them to be successful -- they are stranded. All of our actions, mistakes, successes, and behaviors shape our person and what we can or cannot become, but what will always matter is our individual decisions and actions not those of the people around us because at the end of the day, we are the ones who have to deal with ourselves.
