Introduction: People just don’t work for money; there are other substantial reasons for working such as self-worth, self-esteem, acquaintance, to satisfy ambition, for a sense of achievement, independent, being productive and so on. These could be the factors that drive people to work in everyday life. This differs between people based on their personal circumstance, age, educational background, gender and social status. There are various research conducted which studied the work and why people work and found that money is not the only motivation for working, although it plays an important part in work motivation (Bass). Benefits like health care, extra holidays, flexible working arrangements and higher ranking job drives people to work. …show more content…
The local county councils aim to support the socially excluded people to overcome inequality and disadvantage. Whilst the Government’s approach to tackling exclusion has been multifaceted, a key part of the agenda has been based around inclusion through work. This pre-occupation with work was evident at the top of the government: the ex-prime minister has discussed options for increasing the rate of employment and bringing down spending on incapacity benefit (Blair, 2004). While the UK government bodies focus on eliminating the social exclusion through different ways there is not any study conducted to explain how far the job motivational areas act as a route to social inclusion. This research will help to identify the degrees to which the beneficial effect of work act as a route to social inclusion. Work and the effect of working: Work means an activity involving mental or physical effort performed in order to achieve the goals. Work means employment for some people when it means leisure for others. People work for different reason and a lot of people say that they work for money as it gives them the independence and control over their life. According to Warr (1987) employment provides other benefits in addition to financial reward such as social status, structured activity to the day, self-worth and opportunity for interaction. There are other potential reasons why people work which are important for their quality of life such as

Roszak makes a point in his essay about jobs being our salvation, where he describe there is no end to a working life. Roszak describes the waste of time in people’s jobs and that most employees don’t even put all of their effort into them. He figures
The common theme of work is that if you work hard you will be either successful or happy and most of the time you success is in form of money. That's not always the case sometimes it can just be little experiences of life that makes someone feel a little more successful in the book Hidden America there was a chapter written by a journalist who went to see the conditions of the people who worked on coal mines and he loved to be down their he even went on to say “I kept going down into the coal mine. Explain that. I couldn't seem to quit.” in his chapter.
Working set people free from their stressed, frustrated, debts, loneliness, and lead them to a happy life. Even rich people need a job because doing nothing made them bored and could not have peace in their life. According to Honore said “I have come to believe that people without jobs are not free” (page.137). It is totally true that “people without jobs are not free” because people without a job became homeless, street gang members, and slave. Also, people without jobs became to do suicide because they felt their life was empty and felt depressed.
‘social exclusion is a process where individuals are made to feel pushed out and prevented from participating in society, due to poverty or lack of education. This may result in discrimination, resulting in exclusion from jobs, an income, limited education, lack of social and community opportunities and possibly feeling powerless’ (Europa, 2003).
Nowadays, doing work seems to be inseparable from everyone’s daily life throughout their whole lifetime. Basically, work means any activity or actions that people use their energy to accomplish something, and it could represent people’s effort in both physical and mental levels. For instance, when people are teenagers, they usually do the housework and schoolwork. As for the reasons why people do such works, people are always told by others like their parents and their teachers that: doing housework, like sweeping the floor and cleaning the dishes, enables teenagers gaining basic skills at home, and helps them alleviate some social pressure of their parents; doing schoolwork, like writing essays and making presentations, improves students’ academic performance, and plays a significant role in
Motivation is the force that makes us do things, whether accomplishing personal goals or completing tasks at work. Most people are motivated as a result of their individual needs being satisfied, which gives them the inspiration to perform specific behaviors for which they receive rewards (Kinicki & Williams, 2011). These needs vary from person to person, as everybody has specific needs to be satisfied. When we consider factors that determine the motivation of employees, many of us think of a high salary. This answer is correct for the reason that some employees will be motivated by money, but mostly wrong for the reason that it does not satisfy other needs to a lasting degree (Bizhelp24, 2010). This supports the idea that human
The first podcast that I chose to listen to was “How Much Does Money Motivate Us?” by Daniel Pink. He starts off his talk by telling of an experiment that was done (called the candle experiment) where people had to figure out how to get the candle to stay on the wall (you had to thumb tack the box that it was in to the wall and put the candle there). One group was told that it was just an experiment to see how long it took to figure it out. Another group was given money incentives to the fastest people to figure it out. Surprisingly, the group that was given rewards took over 3 minutes more on average to figure it out. He then tells of many other experiments like this and how extrinsic rewards created a narrow focus, so in situations where creativity was needed, physical rewards hindered rather than helped. He then discussed how intrinsic rewards (like
The Balance of Work and Leisure Jonathan A. Watson Florida Institute of Technology Abstract In this paper I will be discussing what work is and how it relates to leisure. I will be going over the dictionary definitions of the two and my own interpretation of what they mean. I have based my opinions of this topic on various philosophical and literary works.
The modern society is work driven that people need to work hard to realize the general community development goals and personal goals. Thus, work has become an integral part of the day to day living of an average American. One needs to always have something to do in mind and strive to grow on the job to experience greater financial success and skill development. Whether or not a person has multiple work opportunities or succeeds in their work life is influenced by multiple factors, some of which are within the control of the individual in question. The United States of America has a unique work culture that is predominantly shaped by the way that the society is stratified and the assertions that people build towards their work life. However, one thing that remains certain is the way that culture affects the direction that a person takes in employment, on top of the individual ability to overcome social obstacles in order to secure employment that is favorable to an individual in terms of skill and preference. Suffice to say, the milestones attained in one’s work life is contingent to the institutional and cultural support availed by their external environment, personal psychological strength and belief also plays a part.
There are very many factors that motivate employees to do outstanding work in their jobs. Though most of them are non-monetary factors like participative decision making, work teams, challenging jobs, goals in life or in the company, power and other factors. Most of the employees that emerge in their workplace, either in a small cubicle or a mega office have got some drive that enable them to perform in their work, but the key question is, is money is the key motivation in their workplace? In this essay both sides will be argued in order to find the answer to this (Robbins, Odendaal & Roodt, 2003).
In most organisation, money is often seen as a prime motivator for employee in the government and corporate sectors. It empowers them to perform better and contribute to the organisation objective goals and productivity, however, following the shifting of economic conditions and social values, people's desire is dramatically changing. Most employee may feel that they are affected by internal and external
"Work" is a positive thing for many people. To some people, it may be described as a place to escape from the kids, or even a time consumption thing for a single or retired person, but most importantly it is what we do in order to provide for our families and ourselves. Work is something that we all will experience at one time or another during our lives.
Ever since the 1930’s there has been a considerable amount of research done to answer one simple question,’Is remuneration the sole motivator in a workplace and if not is it a demotivator’.Even today the question hasn’t had a definitive answer with many arguing for and many against. But in today’s workplace even if opportunities were unlimited it will be especially hard for people to create their ideal salary. In the past people only worked for remuneration as they had much less needs and the remuneration they got was enough to satisfy their limited needs. But in todays world with an unprecedented growth in technology and other areas like the internet has increased our needs drastically .In the past the approach of people towards life and
