For those who are not involved in sports, exercise can be a hassle. Each day is busy, filled with appointments and work. Exercise is critical to everyday health, as the lack of exercise can impair health in the future. In the article, “How Much Exercise Do I Really Need” by Dr. Jordan Metzi, facts and statistics are given to help push the positive effects of exercise in our daily lives. Some people may have more time than others, but effective time-management skills can make exercise possible for anyone. It is important that a sufficient amount of exercise is attained every week to ensure good health for the future. There are many obvious benefits to exercise. It helps people to feel, look, and perform better. Daily exercise can decrease the risks for illnesses, help with depression, anxiety, and sleep disturbances. “Exercise reduces the risk of inflammatory bowel disease and both prevents and treats type 2 diabetes…”(Metzi). In this chapter, I learned that many people tend not to workout due to them not having time. However, I will change that by applying moderate workouts to my daily lifestyle. Instead of taking a car to school, I will walk to school. When I have some free time, I will also lift weight to build my muscular strength and muscular endurance. No more being on the couch and watching TV. Instead when I am not tired, I will try to workout while watching TV. I won’t exercise everyday to avoid from getting hurt. Saturday and Sunday would be rest days. As I begin to workout, I will start off slow to avoid injuring myself. It is a long journey to go down and I am ready to follow it to better health.
Exercise can be free, going for a walk/run or doing yoga at home will not cost any money. Exercise has many positive effects on the body as well as the mind such as stronger immune system, lower blood pressure, boosts energy, better self-esteem and more able to control weight (Healthline, 2015).
