Abstract
The rate of bullying in schools has been increasing at alarming rate. Bullying in school is the most common form of oppression after cyber bullying in the US. Statistics show that out of every four school-going children, at least one of them is a victim of this vice. In the United States, research shows that out of every four school-goers, one is or has been a victim of bullying at school. Bullying occurs when a student or group of students intentionally coerces, abuses, or intimidates another with the intent of hurting. The hurting might be physical or emotional. For a case to be termed as bullying, it must possess certain characteristics. First, it must be intentional. Second, it has to recur, and, finally, there must be a power imbalance. Most bullies are male students, and they hurt others physically while their female counterparts utilize verbal aggressiveness, social seclusion, and emotional hurt. In the beginning, bullying was justified because it was thought conflicts are normal in adolescents. However, some of the acts are becoming so brutal such that, now, there is a clear line between bullying and conflict.
The implications of bullying include emotional breakdown, social withdrawal, unexplained injuries, school dropout, physical confrontations, poor performance and even suicide. Owing to the increase in bullying cases in schools, it time parents joined in the fight against the vice. Otherwise, its effects might significantly affect the quality of education and cause depression in young children. Several mitigation efforts have been tried before, but it seems they have failed in
