Reading today is a lot different then it was in the year 868 AD; when the first book was published in China. You know a written or printed work consisting of pages glued or sewn together along one side and bound in covers. Society today is so advanced that everything we do is constantly changing whether we realize it or not. Today society is making fewer trips to the bookstore and library, and making purchases of novels on their e-readers in the comfort of their own home. Reading is a nice way to just sit back and let your imagination be free. In an article titled “How Reading changed my Life” by Anna Quindlen she goes on to talk about how it shaped her as a person and it helps strengthen emotional connectedness. In her book she states, “Socrates was wrong: a reader learns what he or she does not know from books, what has passed and yet is forever present through print”. Ultimately, its about having this joy where we can just grab a book escape and lose yourself in the book, to get lost in the print forgetting about any matters going on in ones life. Being lost and having no care in the world are the reasons to want to grab a book and develop our minds, books will also help shape who we are due to the fact that when we read we are constantly learning new things and educating ourselves. Romanticism can be a feeling used to describe how a reader feels when cracking a brand new book open, the smell of the ink on paper and the creases a book acquires from constant use are physical evidence of the journey the book has taken with its reader that cant be duplicated with an
When times are filled with despair and unhappiness, we are driven away from the comfort of our mental home, and there is no greater relief than emerging one’s self into an activity or person that grants us a dry place to survive in life’s created storm. We turn to these things until the storm passes, and while we wait, we often discover something worth bringing back home. For me, my safe haven, my anchor, my shield against the rain, was reading books. Reading has opened many doors for me, planted seeds of new perspectives that I wouldn't have ever grew myself if I hadn't found the words and stories that nurture them. The luxary of reading has been taken away from many because of war, hate, and ignorance over the course of mankind, and I understand
“How Reading Changed My Life” is the book from where the piece of fragment that we read was taken. This book was written by Anna Quindlen. I was able to relate to Quindlen’s perspective and strongly agree with her. Although children have more extra time to read their favorite books over and over again, adults were children and if they liked to re-read books in the past because the book was in their interest, they will also reread their favorite novel in the present.
Reading has impacted my life by having a creative imagination. I read books to see the world and accept opportunities that are given to me. Opening the cover has made me curious what my life will experience and go through in the future. Not only I have gotten smarter to increase my credentials throughout my life, it has made me ambitious to succeed. I feel that education is not just important to read, but to experience how others feel, and how I would express myself to the world. If my father had not pressured me to open that book, I would not be in college today to puruse a career in medicine. Every word I read, is the second I take to get closer achieving my dreams and having the capabilities to change the world by advocating for better
Reading has always been a pass time I enjoyed doing, there was just something about the fact that endless stories could be created with a combination of words and phrases. Without a doubt, Reading expands one’s knowledge on endless topics as well as expands creativity through inspiration of the various works and forms or literature. Personally, as I grew older and more curious with reading I began exploring different genres to read. My causal reading went from basic non-fiction books to reading things like

Two kinds, one of the short stories in The Joy Luck Club, by Amy Tan, first published in 1989, vividly displays a bittersweet relationship between Jing-mei, the narrator and protagonist, and her mother Mrs. Woo, and explores conflicts between a Chinese mother and her disobedient Americanized daughter. The story happened in the Chinatown in San Francisco throughout the 1950s and maybe the early 1960s. It begins with Jing-mei and her mother’s moving to America in 1949. Encouraged by the American Dream and the conventional Chinese parents’ values, Jing-mei’s mother imposed great hopes on her and expects her to become a child prodigy. She tried in all ways to discovery the
Escaping from the severe reality of life helps a person get through their difficulties within life. Whether they have emotional or physical problems, or a person just needs a good story, reading can help a person explore new worlds through their imagination. I loved reading from a young age, and treasured the moments when my mother read to me. She helped me explore the unique worlds that authors try to portray through their writing.

Women were such central forces in the progressive era and the increase of social cohesion mainly because they were everywhere. They were really dedicated when it came to their jobs, at home, and in their community. When you read books and you read often, you obtain the ability to imagine what you are reading. You can picture any scene and hear what you think their voices sound like. You can smells and hear the things they describe. When you read a book it is like you are there with the characters in the story. When you are reading you become attached to the main character. When they cry, you cry. When they are angry, so are you. The character´s story becomes like another life.
“To know how to read is to light a lamp in the mind, to release the soul from prison, to open a gate to the universe" Pearl S. Buck once said in her book Pavilion of Women. Many different people read for many different reasons. Some people read to distract themselves from what they are currently dealing with, others as a pastime and a few read to open their minds. Reading books and other forms of literature can not only expand one's vocabulary, but, open one's mind to different concepts or ideas.
Raymond Mar, a psychologist at Your University in Canada and Keith Oatley a professor An The University of Toronto, they both say that “individuals who often read fiction appear to be better able to understand other people, empathies with them and view the world from their perspectives.” I agree that reading certain types of books can help people further understand and see things from a different point of view. Reading helps to open people's eyes and to teach life lessons or to show there are other things to believe in and know other than what they have always been told to know. Getting different types of books, types that are not always the same as the books that you normally read can help you to view things differently. For example from personal experience a new book can help your imagination grow, readings helps me a lot when I need to come up with new ideas for an art class. The new places a book takes you the new images you see while you are reading the new stores you hear and the happy ending your book might have can change the way you are feeling it can brighten up your day.

In the article, Free Reading by Stephen Krashen the author tells how he believes that kids would be able to read better and be more literate. Krashen speaks of SSR which means, sustained silent reading. He believes that if you allow students the chance to read books they want to read during quiet time, instead of books that the teachers require you to read then you would have kids that enjoy reading and would be much more literate. Research shows that children that do not read for pleasure have a tough time succeeding in today’s world.
