Reading Unlike most people my age, I enjoy a good book. From the classics we read as children to the older, more mature books we are required to read in high school, a good book can take us places that we have never imagined going. In a way, books transport me out of time-into our past or somewhere we aim to go one day. I believe that reading can and has positively affected me in my life. When I read, my mind wanders into different directions visualizing what the character look like to how they act and talk. Having imagination when reading can make the reader turn into someone they never knew existed through the complex plot lines and the captivating characters. Reading captivates me the most when I’m imagining the history of the time period. It's amazing to see how authors can make a serious topic and turn it into something completely different. I want to be like those writers and make an event or topic more relatable for both adults and children. One day, I hope to achieve that. In my life as a reader, I’ve had some help finding books and learning more about topics I wanted to learn more about. As a youngster, I left my local library overjoyed and with books tucked under my arms- with books, in my opinion, every child should …show more content…
Since I am one of the youngest in my family, I can always ask my older siblings book advice and questions. Fortunately, most of the time, they have read it and can answer my questions. Also, my friends are a big help in school. If I need homework help or I need them to reexplain something to me, they always do. They are always there for me when I need any help whatsoever and am lucky to have a good support system both at school and home. Teachers are also another good resource for book help. They can help me with the confusing aspects of a book and can tutor me if needed. They understand that we might not get the same ideas; however, books can have several
There is a beauty in books. Each book opens up your mind to a world unknown. Each page of a book makes you think to yourself "what's going to happen next?". Books give you thoughts and opinions. Books teach you things you never knew. They allow you to escape reality and enter someone else's world. Books
I have always loved reading due to the exciting stories and the interesting characters that provide a good backbone. All my early books I remember as feel good tales to make the young reader fall in love with the characters while usually having a central theme to teach. Some of the charm of these books was how it got the reader engaged and taught along the way. Just like children shows such as Sesame Street the books where entertaining and also educational so it gave children a early start for school; I would be excited whenever the teacher would teach something and you would already know the new word or
My mother taught me how to read at a young age. She read to me before I could read which helped me learn new words and develop a basic understanding of literature at an early age. When it came time for me to attend elementary school, I remember heading to the library quite often. Books were organized based on what was thought to be the appropriate reading material for that grade level. I often found myself wandering down the isles with the older kids. I’m so grateful my mother encouraged reading as much as she did. If she hadn’t, it’s very possible I could have struggled with reading. If this were true, I wouldn’t have learned as much as I did, or had the desire to read, which is very important in order to become as advanced in literature as possible.
Books have fueled me in all my endeavors. They are something that I wish to share with others. As I've gotten older, books have always been there opening up doors to new worlds.
“Reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are,” (Cooley). Reading has impacted us in many ways throughout our lives. Often time’s books give people different perspectives on their lives. People with high stress levels often find comfort in reading books to take their mind off of their concerns. Sometimes, people just need to take a step back from their life and relax for a while; therefore, reading is a great tool. Reading all kinds of books has also helped me become a better writer. There are many different books that have impacted me over the years.
How has literacy impacted my life? From learning to read sight words and write sentences to progressing all the way to thick chapter books and lengthy essays, literacy has been a long and incredibly significant journey in my life. Literacy has been a fantastic and influential adventure because of exciting personal experiences that first took root at age two, the inspiration of an elementary school teacher, Mrs. Peake, and memorable events including the Accelerated Reader program and discovering my favorite childhood book series.
We are taught at a young age that books are full of lessons. The reader just needs to read between the lines. There is an Irish proverb that states, “You cannot open a book without learning something”. Books are full of information whether they are textbooks or children’s books.
When I was a younger I don’t remember if I was read to or not, but I read a lot of books. I enjoy reading books because they allow me to reach new heights in my imagination. At my age many kids say that reading is boring and is for losers. I think it’s cool to read and will continue to read throughout my life. I have read many different types of books from fiction to biographies. The longest book I ever read was a book called Dragon Rider by Cornella Funke. It was five hundred and thirty five pages! When it comes to reading I am a superstar! When I’m reading I am able to get a moral lesson from what I read, so it ends up helping me in the long run of my life
For many people reading and writing are the most fundamental skills a person can learn, it can also greatly influence a persons cognitive thinking capacity and the sharing of information with others. However, in some parts of the world, people still do not have access to education or the ability to learn to read and write. Lacking the skill to read and write can make things tough for some one in todays society, however with the right resources and mentors to support, one can find a hidden passion for reading and writing. For me, reading and writing has never been one of my greatest skills, I had always struggled throughout my younger years of schooling to keep an interest. As of today, reading and writing has made a great impact on my life, especially in the last few years since I began college.
Smart people read. Books provide us with an endless amount of knowledge. I don’t mean that you have to read a scholarly book. Simply reading a romantic, thriller, comedy, or whatever kind of book it is that you like can expand your mind without you even realizing it. The best part of a book though is the creativity that it provides us with. When you’re truly interested and invested in a book your creativity starts to take over and instead of reading words on a page there is a moving playing in your head. You have your own idea of what each character is like, what the scenery looks like, and so much more. Even on your worst days you can pick up a book and just escape for a little while.
Raymond Mar, a psychologist at Your University in Canada and Keith Oatley a professor An The University of Toronto, they both say that “individuals who often read fiction appear to be better able to understand other people, empathies with them and view the world from their perspectives.” I agree that reading certain types of books can help people further understand and see things from a different point of view. Reading helps to open people's eyes and to teach life lessons or to show there are other things to believe in and know other than what they have always been told to know. Getting different types of books, types that are not always the same as the books that you normally read can help you to view things differently. For example from personal experience a new book can help your imagination grow, readings helps me a lot when I need to come up with new ideas for an art class. The new places a book takes you the new images you see while you are reading the new stores you hear and the happy ending your book might have can change the way you are feeling it can brighten up your day.
Reading a good book is a great idea to think about the next time you have time and need to distress from the day-to-day problems. A good book can help you to understand others at a deeper level without actually asking them any questions. You might relate to them because of a
My parents stressed the importance of reading both fiction and nonfiction since my birth. By ten months old I could identify and sound out every letter of the alphabet, and they were stunned when they noticed my friends could not. Books quickly consumed my childhood. I read everything, from The Magic Tree House to The Royal Diaries to nearly every Bluebonnet Book available. And when space on my bookshelf dwindled after the addition of classics like Heidi and David Copperfield, I adored animal encyclopedias and a children's dictionary.
Everybody reads. Everybody has picked up a book at least once in their life and flipped through its pages. Everybody reads, but once they reach that final page, do they feel an indifference, or do they feel a personal connection? From early childhood to young adulthood, reading has always been a part of my life. Reading had always been important to me because as a child, I was very shy, and being an only child, I had a lot of time on my own, so I often turned to books to fuel my urge for adventure. Reading became personal to me at a very young age because I read as if I was living in the book myself. Ever since that point in my life, my joy of reading continued to flourish. The pages of my books grew thicker and thicker as I aged, and the genres broadened and the vocabulary matured. Literature has played a meaningful role in my life since the very beginning and helped shape me into the kind of person I am today, it has influenced my personality directly, and the close relationship I hold with literature.
Reading and writing are two of the most important tools in my life, because without them I would not have an education. They form the basis of a class; for example, completing a lab in chemistry would not be possible without following a written lab procedure. These two skills are taught at such a young age, and as education advances students must continue to strive to reach a higher level. I can remember in elementary school, we were always pushed to reach the next reading level once we had successfully mastered the one we were on. It was always a competition for my sister and I to be at a higher level, I usually won. Even though I was excelling in reading it was the complete opposite for writing. It is something that has never come easy
