How Saint Thomas Is the Best Saint

I chose Saint Raphael the Archangel as my confirmation saint. I chose this saint because this is the first saint I learned about. I always looked upon this saint as my favorite saint because of his strong relationship with God and because I knew this saint the longest. I also chose this saint because his name means "God Heals." Saint Raphael the Archangel had an interesting life in faith and a strong relationship with God. Most people know this saint because he is one of the seven archangels and a part of the group of three archangels talked about in the Bible.

He was also dubbed as an “apostle to the skeptics” because he resolutely answered frequent objections individuals had when it came to accepting Christ as their Savior (christianodyssey.com).

Sainthood is defined as someone whose goodness outweighs the sins that they made. But according to Gregory Orfalea, and Tony Platt, their perspective on receiving Sainthood rights is looked at in different ways. In the first article by Gregory Orfalea, he discusses his hopes for Father Serra to receive the entitlement, and to, “overlook such flaws”. In the other hand, Tony Platt has made his opposing arguments. Tony Platt believed that Father Serra should not be canonized because that would be, “reinforcing selective, racist history…” and take offense to Native Americans. With the definition of sainthood being defined as the goodness exceeding the sins, I believe that father Serra does not meet these standards.

Situated in the diverse city of Houston and the only Catholic university in the city, I believe that the University of St. Thomas will provide me with innumerable opportunities to study communications and psychology, as well as prepare me for graduate studies in dance movement therapy, which is my ultimate career goal. St. Thomas seems like a perfect fit for me, especially the smaller class sizes and the individualized attention students receive. I believe that I will be able to succeed there as a student, thriving alongside like-minded students and learning from intelligent professors. I particularly love St. Thomas because of it’s affiliation with the Roman Catholic Church, a religion I have actively been involved with my whole life. The saint I have chosen for Confirmation is Saint Catherine of Siena. Her feast day is April 29th. She is a patron saint of Italy, bodily ills, miscarriages, people judged for their piety, sexual temptation, sick people, nurses, and fire prevention. Saint Catherine of Siena even helped the poor and assisted the United States becoming peaceful. The reason I have chosen her is because when I’m older, I want to help people by becoming a nurse or something of that field, just like her.

I am applying to the University of St. Thomas because of the reputation that the university has as an outstanding Business school. The university has a lot of resources like the mentorship program and global experience that can help me reach my highest potential. I believe that i am a great candidate for admission into your school.

Saint Francis was one of the most selfless people to live. Francis gave up his rich and lavish life style to live as Jesus Christ did. There are many qualities that Saint Francis possessed that I can connect to a few people I know, but the few that I am going to be relating to my life would be his generosity, how prayerful he was and his humbleness. Saint Thomas More is well known for being canonized by the Catholic Church as a Saint in 1935. Saint Thomas More is also known for writing his amazing book, Utopia. Also, Saint Thomas More had an early death from rejecting to recognize King Henry VIII as the head of the Church of England. Saint Thomas More was beheaded in London, England in 1535. Saint. Thomas More truly was a “Man for All Seasons” (Statesman) because he put God at the center of his decisions, was an active citizen who favored measures of societal equality, and was a distinguished scholar and lawyer.

The greatest Christian Apologist and martyr, in the turn of the second century, who stood firm in defending the belief of Christianity, was the great philosopher and early Christian apologist and martyr - Justin Martyr. Justin Martyr (100-165CE), was born in Samaria, near Jacob’s well, around turn of the century in modern day Palestine. Justin was a Gentile and well educated, who has traveled extensively in search for the life’s meaning in the philosophies of his day.
