“How Samoan students’ cultural practices inhibit their involvement/participation in mathematical problem solving” 1. However, just as it is natural to develop immunity against viruses, Man also learns and develops several skills while facing these difficulties – one of the classes of skills being analytical, logical, and decision-making and in more general, problem solving. The importance of problem solving can’t be emphasized enough as be it small or big, be it personal or professional, we face problems day in day out and we wish to fix them. One powerful way of enabling Man to learn these skills is through Mathematics. Several academicians would like to put it as Mathematical processes acknowledging that if Mathematics refers to armory of concepts, the real deal is the process of using relevant tools out of the kit to solve problems. Literature on problem solving in mathematics also has discussed exclusively the need to teach students to reason mathematically 2.
