Alone with his dog Max on Mount Crumpit, poor Grinch hated the entire idea of all the Christmas bliss. He had a repugnance for all that participated in such holiday because of the countless rejections he received from the Whos as a child. Many Whos including the Mayor of Whoville himself would ridicule him for lack of better appearance making the Grinch feel remorseful and unfit for the Whos’ standards. For this reason, he stayed far, far away from the Whos and anything pertaining to them. No one quite realized the reasonings for the Grinch’s cold-hearted tendencies and rather just came to the conclusion that his heart was just two sizes too small. So the Whos continued on with the life and the holidays without any thought of the grumpy …show more content…
Grinch saw Cindy Lou as just another Who, but as time progressed the Grinch came to the realization that she was someone who truly cared about him when no one else did, ultimately changing his outlook on Whoville as a whole. The theme of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” involves Cindy Lou’s persistent attempts to change the Grinch’s outlook on Christmas. An example for this can be in the scene where Cindy Lou took the time out to go to Mount Crumpit and invite Mr. Grinch to the Holiday Whobilation, a Christmas celebration, where he’d be receiving a special award and tons of food from the townspeople upon getting word on his touching story. With Mr. Grinch as the protagonist and Cindy Lou as an antagonist, the film was able to give a very relatable and sympathetic draw to the audience. Cindy Lou affected Mr. Grinch because she was the only one who saw the goodness buried deep within his cold heart. One can clearly understand the stories meaning as the characters performances were perfect in regards to the message being conveyed. Jim Carrey was brilliantly funny with his improvised jokes, goofy gestures, and realistic emotions as he portrayed the evil, yet likable, Grinch. The Whoville characters, played by Taylor Momsen, Bill Irwin, Molly Shannon, Jeffrey Tambor, and Christine Baranski, were fun, energetic, and full of spirit while expressing a true sense of happiness surrounding the atmosphere of Whoville. It made you want to choose sides as you …show more content…
I enjoyed this film as a young girl and still enjoy this film as if it was my first time watching it. My favorite aspect of “The Grinch” was Carrey’s performance. I was so intrigued by how he managed to provide a jaw-droppingly humorous presentation with his over-the-top animated antics and trademark facial expressions under pounds of green makeup and knotted hair. He leaped, tumbled, taunted, and flew through the air and tunnels throughout the garbage mountain, Mount Crumpit. His unbelievable gestures left me so interested throughout the film I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen. With Carrey’s performance, he took “The Grinch” to a level of genius! The film itself had already established the lovable and cheerful community of Whoville and all it needed was a little bit of edge to take the film sky high, Carrey was it. This is the perfect film to watch with the family around the Christmas holiday as it brings out a great sense of joy. My reaction to this film was a hilarious, positive one, I constantly found myself laughing at various scenes at the Grinch’s change of voice and direction as well as the dialogue between the Whos and himself. From the very beginning I was able to understand the reasoning behind each and every character's demeanor, so the happy ending was welcoming. To me, I personally feel like there were no issues with “The Grinch”
Today you will learn who the meanest Christmas Legend is of all time. From Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas, it features a mean, green creature who lived atop a mountain next to Whoville; who cannot simply stand and abide by Christmas. While Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol features the nasty, dismal misanthrope who lived in London and thought Christmas was a waste of time. Therefore, this evidence proves that the Grinch is the meanest of them all.
One example of how the grinch had goodness in his heart is when he saved Cindy Loo. He made sure she didn’t get hurt at all. Cindy Loo fell into the present wrapping machine and the Grinch saved her from getting hurt. When Cindy Loo was on top of all the Christmas presents and the sleigh was hanging over the mountains, he made sure she didn’t fall at all. He also stopped the sleigh from hitting Cindy Lou's dad. He made sure nothing happened to him or her.
At the beginning of the movie, he almost never fails to cater to his id and strives to not turn into his superego. As the movie progresses, he grasps the fact that he is able to arbitrate his superego and id by practicing his ego, therefore, balancing out his personality structures. An example of the Grinch’s ego is him wrapping her up in wrapping paper after realizing he saved her. His superego kicks by saving her after his id influenced him to push her into the gift processor. By the end of the movie, his superego becomes the more prevalent part of his personality. After being showed love from the Whos, the Grinch’s heat softens and he starts performing heroic acts instead of being a villain. In one of the last scenes, he is shown putting his life on the line by saving the sleigh from falling down the
When the Grinch throws Cindy Lou in the mail machine, it displays the growing power of the ID. Max his dog convinces the Grinch to help Cindy. Therefore, the Grinch rescues her. Max is the representation of good! Max represents the superego in the Grinch.
There are many differences between the movie and the original story, one of which is Cindy Lou Who. In the original Grinch she is portrayed as innocent two year old. In the movie however, she is about seven years old, which allows her to be slightly more skeptical about things. Jim Carrey played The Grinch, but when watching this movie it seemed as if The Grinch was playing Jim Carrey. The original cartoon leaves you with much more imagination as to why the Grinch is so mean. Quoting from Dr. Seuss’s book:
When I started learning to write my name we’d recieved a laminated name tag I wrote my name to many times to count till I perfected the writing.
One example of how the grinch has goodness in his heart is when he saved Cindy Loo. When the grinch stole all the presents he put them at the edge of the clif. Christmas morning cindy loo wanted to go see him cause no one else did. She went on the top of all the presents and they all started to fall off the clif while Cindy Loo was on top and the grinch stopped all the presents from falling.
The Grinch Who stole Christmas has been a hit movie for decades. It started off as a book and was made into a cartoon and a movie. While the book and the movie have some differences the fact that the grinch is known to hate Christmas, he steals the presents from everyone and the setting is the same in both the book and the movie make them somewhat similar. The first similarity between the book and the movie is that the Grinch has been known to hate Christmas. The book states, “ The Grinch hated Christmas! The whole Christmas season!” This is similar to the movie because in the movie the Grinch hates Christmas. When he was in school he was bullied around Christmas and he now hates all the Christmas activities.
One example of the Grinch is that he had compassion. The reason I say that is because when Cindy Lou was in the mail room, she fell into the mail machine. After she fell, the Grinch reached out his arm and
In the play, A Christmas Carol: Scrooge and Marley by Israel Horovitz the main character Scrooge is a cold-hearted miser who despises Christmas and people. At the beginning, he shows very different and mean actions towards people and how he is always mad. For example when Scrooge leaves his office's people start to walk past him in a happy and merry mood. But in contrast to the people, Scrooge has a frown and looks unhappy for the Christmas time. Another example is that when his nephew is talking to him he is wanting him to leave so he keeps on repeating the words, “Good Afternoon!” until he leaves. The last example would be that when Cratchit is cold in the office, Scrooge starts yelling at him saying that he would fire him because he was showing he was cold. Scrooge also shows it in his own words by saying “...every idiot who goes about with “Merry Christmas” on his lips, should be boiled with his own pudding, and buried with a stake of holly through his heart.”(647).
He then realizes how important they are to one other and how strong their connections to eachother are, and how devasting it would be if Tiny Tim would become sicker or even die. After visting the Cratchits he then, travls to Freds. Where his friends gather to celebrate the holidays through, eating, drinking, listing to music, andplaying games. Scrooge then starts to enjoy the celebration. When this type of music sounded through his head, all the living things that ghost told him ran through his head. He softened more and more; and thought that if he could have listened to it often, years ago, he might have cultivated the kindnesses of life for his own happiness with his own hands. This shows that, Sccrooge hasbegun to relax and enjoy the merriment, and that he is even considering how his life might be different had he cultivated kindness instead of focusing on making money. Through Scrooge's change at heart this shows that people should focus , more on impacting eachothers lives , and having a meaningful relationships with others, becasue is brings more happiness, then wealth and
To illustrate, a background of the Grinch, he was a resentful individual who look to be in his 40’s who lived on a snowy called Mount Crumpits in the town of Whoville. In the film it depicts him spending a lot of time alone in the cave on the mountain reflecting depressed mood and his only social contact being his dog, named Max. He was abandoned as a child and was
As the story moves along Sam out the elder in different situations to see if he would eat the green eggs and ham, but to Sam’s dismay the elder wouldn’t. Finally after trying and trying and trying Sam gets the elder to try the Green eggs and ham. One of the most popular stories by Dr. Seuss is the classic How the Grinch Stole Christmas. This story became so popular that Universal Studios not only picket it up for a movie, but also a whole theme for their Christmas season theme park. In this story the Grinch loathes Christmas and the who’s with every fiber of his being. The Grinch presents himself as socially cut off from the who’s down in whoville. He lives on top of Mt. Crumpit with his dog Max. All of this hate is because his heart is two sizes too small (and this time he’ll keep it off). He finally had enough of the Who’s bangboozaling and clangclangaling so he devised a plan to steal Christmas. After Santa Clause came and delivered all the presents to the houses he would sneak in, in his Santa Clause suit and steal every present, every light, every decoration, every tree, and all of the food for the feast. He even stole the roast beast! He would empty the houses one by one and he didn’t leave anything. Not even a crumb big enough for a mouse. So as he got done with emptying the houses and was about to dump everything over Crumpit he heard a noise, a weird
There are so many things that you yet to see the grinch do, if you get to know him. So, you still think he’s guilty. Well, i’m here to tell you that you’re wrong. The Grinch isn’t guilty, he deserves a second chance. He saved a girl that he didn’t know three times, he also returned all the presents to whoville (he totally didn’t
Dr. Seuss, written many books such as Green Eggs and Ham and How the Grinch Stole Christmas, has portrayed many morals that can be understood. My favorite Dr. Seuss book is How the Grinch Stole Christmas. It is my favorite book because it tells a tale about how the mischievous Grinch (who hates Christmas) plots to steal Christmas from the Whos. At the end of the book the Grinch realizes that there is more to Christmas then presents. It is also my favorite book because it teaches me that you don’t need presents to celebrate Christmas. You can still celebrate Christmas with or without presents. My favorite character from any Dr. Seuss book is Cindy Lou Who from How the Grinch Stole Christmas. She is my favorite character because she became friends
