While Alpena is already a beloved community, it can be improved. One way to improve Alpena is to have a Neighborhood Watch in every neighborhood. This will decrease crime in the community, and discourage future delinquents. If at least five people volunteer in each neighborhood, Alpena will be a much safer place for everyone.
Decreasing crime is a major effect of installing a Neighborhood Watch program. Adults can take turns on who watches for crime on an agreed schedule. Someone may even volunteer to buy video cameras to ensure safety. This will make crime reduce significantly in the Alpena community. Realistically, not everyone will be willing to participate, but even a few volunteers will suffice. Imagine a community where there is little to no crime, because every criminal know they will be seen by their neighbor, friends parents, or family members. Every neighborhood will be at least a little bit safer.

There's no way there can be a police officer can be standing at every street corner every day, so this helps them. Also there’s a very little chance anyone would risk doing anything illegal if they knew they were being monitored.
Many communities have started a neighborhood watch program and have seen tremendous results. The mayor of the city of Annapolis, Maryland highly recommends it. He reports having seen a tremendous improvement in safety citywide. Any sort of program even remotely related to the neighborhood watch program will be an improvement. Some may argue that no one will take this seriously, there are numerous success stories that tell otherwise. They tell of a hard working community working for the greater good. That community can be Alpena. With a little hard work, we too can be almost crime
This paper will examine the concepts of a new criminal justice. It will also discuss why the concept requires the involvement of the entire community and why it may be difficult to implement. There will also be information on programs that promote safe neighborhoods and why communities may like and dislike these different programs.
Ted Nugent said people looking out for suspicious behavior are “The purest form of Americans watching out for each other and being good neighbors” (Cover). I agree that people watching the neighborhood is a good thing because they are making sure it is safe for themselves and their children. If someone sees something suspicious they can tell another person so they can call the police while the other person tries to alleviate the problem before it blows out of proportion. If you see someone breaking into another person house, you could call them or the police to notify them showing you are a good
Bement, Illinois is a village where people talk to their neighbors and offer a helping hand in the community. The problem in Bement is that people, ev men are selling drugs at the Piatt County Bement Park. The clear solution to this problem is that the Bement High School Principal Doug Kepley should work with the police officer in town and hold a meeting to start a neighborhood watch for the park so that the people in this small village can feel safe and know that their children aren’t able to easily access drugs.
The policy and problem identified in this policy analysis recognized the significance of the problem. Their goal was to address the issue of deterrence, public safety, and restoring neighborhoods to a safe environment for kids and the elderly to live. The plan outlines challenges for interactions with local residents and attracting more business to make the area a desirable place for residents and visitors to patronize. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of police foot patrol as a means of deterrence through apprehension and as a means of risk reduction, community and problem oriented policing, high crime neighborhood hot spots, and violence prevention.
Of the many policing strategies that have been used, Broken Windows Policing is one that has remained questionable when it comes to its effectiveness. The model of Broken Windows Policing focuses on how disorder is important in generating and sustaining serious crime. The model does not suggest that there is a direct link between disorder and serious crime but instead that disorder may lead to an increased fear and withdrawal from the residents in the surrounding area, which then allows more serious crime to happen because there is a decreased level of social control. The theory also states that police are able to play a large role in stopping this process by focusing on disorder and less serious crime. By doing this, the police would be able to decrease fear and resident withdrawal in the area. By promoting and implementing higher levels of social control, residents will be better able to have more control of their neighborhood and prevent serious crimes from happening (“Broken Windows Policing” n.d.).
The ones most responsible for controlling crime in the community is the community itself. Although the other factors, such as government, education, and families, are crucial, the community is ultimately accountable. They are the ones who control a large group of people and attend their specific needs. In order to control crimes within the neighborhood, it should be solved by the people who live within the region. In addition, the individuals living in the area must be able to solve their own situations, which in this case includes controlling crime.
The Highlands is a low-income community that is facing a major issue with crime caused by adolescents. Instances of criminal activity inflicted by the youth in a community is an issue that plagues many areas in our country. The Highlands is facing types of criminal activity that frequently ranges from vandalism, theft, burglaries and assaults on other members of the community. There is also a fear from the community that gangs from neighboring areas are going to move into The Highlands. The areas schools have about a 40% drop out rate and a not very diverse, but committed, police department. City officials and leaders of the community want to decrease the area’s crime rate by being more proactive with its adolescents and the opportunities
However, the number of problem oriented policing activities was seen as a significant predictor of change. The efforts made by police did result in reducing serious crimes than the efforts made by public housing representatives. In fact, “Research shows that different types of tactics and large quantities of problem-oriented policing activities, performed collectively by site teams comprising police, public housing officers, and social service liaison officers, can significantly reduce serious crime. It was found that, reductions in calls for service for serious crime could be attributed to the number of problem-oriented policing activities implemented in a site (Mazerolle, et al., 2000, p.
But another aspect I see as being critical to the success of this program is the coming together of law enforcement, community leaders, and churches. While law enforcement alone might not make a dent, this combination can be quite effective. Community leaders I feel will make a big impact because the people will be willing to listen. In crime ridden neighborhoods people might be hesitant to listen to law enforcement because they might not be willing to trust them. But by combining the collective effort of not only law enforcement and community leaders but churches as well, you are creating this positive atmosphere that just might be able to reflect negative feelings and criminal
Its sad how people do that, as you think to yourself while you walk down the street. Sometimes you just want to yell at people and knock common sense into them, but that wont change their mind. They are just strangers.
Due to the recent rise of break-ins our neighborhood this month, I am proposing that the community come together to discuss starting a neighborhood watch. In just the last week alone our neighborhood has reported multiple break-ins. The problem is worsening and action must be taken.
In essence, Neighborhood Watch is a crime prevention program that stresses education and common sense. It teaches citizens how to help themselves by identifying and reporting suspicious activity in their neighborhoods. In addition, it provides citizens with the opportunity to make their neighborhoods safer and improve the quality of life. Neighborhood Watch groups typically focus on observation and awareness as a means of preventing crime and employ strategies that range from simply promoting social interaction and "watching out for each other" to active patrols by groups of citizens.
Many citizens have become annoyed with the crime in their neighborhoods. They have organized block watches, citizen patrols, along with neighborhood cleanups, and started harassing slumlords that allow drug dealers to use their properties. (Brown Art. 122). Among many of the crime fighting tools, the involvement of
The focus of this paper will be based upon different crime prevention strategies implemented by members of the communities, local and government authorities.
We have many people who are willing to become trained volunteers and children that want to participate and sign up with our after school programs. We are slightly worried about the neighborhood crime rate still. This issue will be our hardest to combat and we know we will have to take our time if we want to see a real change. We are willing and ready to go full force and do what is necessary, but we also realize that this will take time.
