Based off of the evidence from countless films and television shows, most people have the basic understanding of how zombies work, and how to kill them, and how they act. Zombies have rotting skin, cannot walk like “normal” people, groan and moan around instead of talking, and roam around looking for brains to eat. People also know that loud sounds attract zombies, and fire scares them, but bright lights attracts them. Because of all of this knowledge, most people know how to kill a zombie, a strike to the head or beheaded, and it wouldn't be as big of a deal. Instead of freaking out, and not knowing what to do the general knowledge will help greatly in fighting off the zombies, hence it not being a serious
Continuing on, zombies have had a huge pop culture impact on the world. The peak popularity time of zombies every year is undoubtedly the month of October as Halloween approaches. During the Halloween season many zombie movies, books, video games, etc. are released and a lot of them have a major “hype” factor around them. For example, the popular video game series “Call of Duty” tends to
A valuable lesson you hope to pass on to the next late night pedestrian you and your new friends come across; Underestimating the potential for a zombie outbreak is a highly dangerous (and foolish) activity. Preparedness is something one can never have too much of when considering an epidemic of the walking dead. Some of the basics are: Assessing the potential for a zombie outbreak at any given time, knowing the four types of zombies and how to respond to each (an absolute must), and most importantly, you need to have a plan.
There are many different ways to get ready for a disastrous occurrence. Geography would be important in a case like this. Like, in the case of a zombie apocalypse, Yuko Caras said that he would try to understand the characteristics of the zombies. It would be useful to see what they can and can't do. You would want to know how fast, or slow they move, where they were at first, so you can estimate where they will be in the future, and the amount of space they take up. You would also want to know where natural resources are, and get to those natural resources, but only if they don't have zombies. It would be of importance to know your coordinates. You would want to know what the climate of where you are, where you are headed, and everything in between. Additionally, something that you would want to know is where the major rivers are.You would want to know the states that are boardering the state that you are in. Something else that would be of importance would be to do research on not only the zombies, but your surroundings. You would want to know where you libraries are so that you
The terror of death typically consumes people, therefore, they must prepare for anything to happen. Not knowing what to expect can make it difficult to prepare for if the event has yet to happen. People planning to survive the zombie apocalypse must follow the process of gathering weapons, finding the items necessary to survive, and learning to use surrounding items to fight zombies.
The article “My Zombie, Myself: Why Modern Life Feels Rather Undead,” written by Chuck Klosterman, discusses the reasons behind zombies becoming so popular. Klosterman writes that rise of popularity of zombies is different than that of vampires. He states that most monsters are initially created as representations of fear. Similar to that of Frankenstein or vampires, Klosterman explains that zombies could be viewed in the same light; however, zombies are better explained as an allegory for our day to day existence. Rather than some innate fear, Klosterman highlights this fact to be why zombies have risen to such high popularity.
According to zombie movies and books, there are several steps people can take to stay safe when zombies are on the prowl. Legends and other stories describe zombies as dead people who have been brought back to life. Many reasons are very simple and explain that, why zombies have invaded our media. First reason, is the fear of war or lack of safety. Second, the fear or slavery. Last reason, the virus out-of-control.
I had this question for a while now, coming from a person who love zombies (I don’t like werewolves or vampires wars), why we, a society as a whole, are so fascinated and even dread zombies. Every culture, religion, society, or being alone has some form of an individual reanimating back to life. Take this, is Jesus a zombie? A zombie is an undead being created through the reanimation of a human corpse, so is Jesus one? Americans love zombies, I mean look at the Zombie walk in Asbury Park or The Walking Dead. Not just Americans fear zombies, taken in Chinese culture the Jiangshi, the hopping zombie, or 2014 when Ebola outbreak occur, villages reported seeing zombies. Yet, zombies captivated us, because anyone can be one, and you lose 100% of
After the war against the zombies had been going on for several years, soldiers and other people were better equipped to fight because they better understood the nature of zombies. One of the ways that information spread was through a program called “Radio Free Earth”. A woman who worked for this radio station examines the originally widespread problem of lack of understanding the zombie virus when she states, “Ignorance was the enemy. Lies and superstition, misinformation, disinformation. Sometimes, no information at all. Ignorance killed billions of people. Ignorance caused the Zombie War” (Brooks 194). At the beginning of the novel, especially at the battle at Yonkers, this ignorance took a toll on the people who were fighting. One of the soldiers from this battle comments, "Why didn't they put us on the roofs? ...We could have seen the whole valley, and we would have been completely safe from attack" (Brooks 93-94). The lack of understanding of how to fight and kill the zombies not only cost the lives of members of the army men and women who were fighting that day, but also led to an increase in the number of zombies. Another example of the lack of preparedness of the general public comes from the story of a girl whose family headed north to escape the zombies. She discusses all of the "supplies" that people packed for this journey that would end up having very little or no functional use (Brooks 123). A parallel can be drawn to packing for college. There are a multitude of extensive college packing lists that can be found online, but in reality all of the items on these lists that students think that they will need might not really be necessary. Dorm rooms are not that big, and sometimes the packing lists are created from the perspective of the people who are trying to sell you these supplies, so they add items
Zombies or cannibalistic humanoids are popular among the horror genre of myths and legends. As a result, they have became dominant in the pop culture with their appearance in numerous iconic films and shows. Within these legends, stories or films, zombies have been depicted in different versions. They can either be quick and cunningly vicious or slow and mindless. Some stories even portray them having a smart efficient society where they utilize a strange sense of teamwork. Although all of these versions have its comparisons, zombies always end up having a relation to the infamous virus that infects
War. We are always at war, with ourselves, others, with life ,and with death. We are constantly fighting to come out of these wars as victors, but something is always lost. While fighting to survive, and fighting to keep loved ones safe, innocence is thrust into the backseat. Morals, laws, and order is all lost when our brains and bodies kick into survival mode. When fighting zombies there is no chance to second guess or take a break to question one's actions, because it's a life or death situation. So in this war with zombies, we fight for survival, family, and pray our innocence stays intact. The loss of innocence is inevitable in a zombie apocalypse, because when we are fighting to survive, there is no way to save or maintain our innocence.
This “monster” has grown and adapted on a large scale from when it was originated to now. Just the fact that in the beginning, the concept was just resurrection to now where zombies can only be killed by taking out the brain and they feed on human flesh, is crazy. Entertainment today is overwhelmed by the zombie. Zombies are literally everywhere. Although, they are presented in different ways almost every time you see them, all zombies are the same.
Being the logical person that I am, surviving a population growth of zombies at my school would not be a real struggle. Other students my age would not hesitate to either hide in the most sophisticated of places, or run with gusto, and scream with all their might, chainsaw in hand, as they try to defend their fellow classmates. I, on the other hand, would take the better mannered approach. As a teenager, I have been taught all of my life to make new friends, and always be polite. So there would be no hiding for me. Instead, I would be socializing. Zombies aren’t dead and the chances of being killed rather than turned into an undead human by people that you know from school, walking dead or not, are slim. There is no point in living a life as
As we all know most of us find zombies repulsive, ugly, and scary. Zombies can also connect our fears with death. Zombies are looked at as being fictional and created through a reanimation of a human corpse. Zombies are most likely found in horror films and fantasy genres, but can have connections with history with complex origins.
The three most important items that are needed for a zombie apocalypse are a knife or multi-tool, a fire source, and a map. All of these tools are extremely necessary for going out into the wide range of Rot and Ruin with thousands of flesh-eating zombies. They all can be used in many different ways that could help anyone survive.
