America the Great The Statue of Liberty, illuminated in the dark night with an array of green and yellow, towers beautifully over the Upper New York Bay. For centuries, she has stood as a welcoming to all those who may visit America; however, she is just one of the many symbolic representations of what America stands for. While this country may have its flaws, and opprobrious moments in history, there are still multiple idiosyncrasies that define and prove this country’s strength and perseverance. It is often argued that America is the greatest country in the world, and after a lifetime of experiencing and learning for myself, it is evident that it truly is. Take a look at one of the most important things we have that makes America unique; freedom. When the pilgrims and early immigrants first ventured here, they brought with them their aspirations, and longing to establish a new, and ameliorated lifestyle for not only themselves, but for their posterity (Ferrara 3.) Take a look at all the service we’ve offered to other countries; whether it’s rebuilding homes in Ethiopia, or donating clothes for children in Haiti. It is said that service after all, makes a person feel better. Peter Ferrara quoted that, “An American is generous. Americans have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their time of need” (Ferrara 6.) World War II even has many examples of America’s selflessness towards other countries. So in a bigger perspective, the United States can be admired for their willingness to jump in and help other countries.
