Abortion Lyla was walking back to her car, parked in her office’s garage located in New York City. Suddenly, the lights went black and she was unable to see anything. Lyla exclaimed as confusion overwhelmed her body, “What the—,” only to be cut off by a black leather glove covering her mouth. The stranger’s hand tightly pressed up against her, leaving her unable to speak, unable to comprehend, and unable to breathe. He was wearing all black, a black mask, black shirt, black pants, black shoes, complete with black gloves. “You do not say a word,” he demanded as he belligerently threw her onto the car. What followed was the most petrifying moment Lyla would ever encounter in her entire existence, and what once used to be an amazing, blissful …show more content…
However, there is much controversy on the topic for valid reasons. On the one hand, abortion is considered absolutely horrid because it is simply ending the life of a “person” who has the right to live. On top of that, and unfortunately for the baby, the 8 week+ unborn fetus feels authentic physical pain during the abortion. On the other hand, abortion is considered acceptable because if the mother of the fetus is at serious risk and could potentially die by following through with the baby, they should be able to choose what they want. Surprisingly though, studies have proven that less than 1% of all abortions are performed to save the mother’s life. Overall, the decision on whether to have an abortion or not ultimately lies in solely the hands of the …show more content…
Wade decision. In this scenario, Roe believed that abortion is a right that all women should be privileged to, while Wade supposed the opposite. This situation occurred on January 22, 1973, and on that day, the U.S. Supreme Court, in a 7-2 settlement, affirmed the legality of a woman’s right to have an abortion under the Fourteenth amendment (which addresses citizenship rights and equal protection of the laws,) to the Constitution, siding with
Abortion has been one of the biggest controversies of all time. Many people believe it is 100% wrong and even consider it to be murder. The definition of abortion is; “The termination of pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo prior to being capable of normal growth.” These pro-life believers do not support the idea of abortion and believe it should be illegal. Many of these supporters do not know that if abortion were illegal they would still be performed, unfortunately by an uneducated staff. Over 70 thousand maternal deaths occur every year because of unsafe abortions. These women die, so the idea of supporting pro-life is contradictory, this is why the nation should be pro-choice.
Writing for publication was presented as a newspaper article. The chosen theme was a real-estate article. Bold headings to grab the eye of the reader were used, same as big and clear images. The article was presented in three different columns. Writing for a visual prompt was presented in two peoples perspectives. The story consisted of a daughter (Deb) and mother’s perspective after the death of her father. The purpose of this layout is to show how they are both grieving in individual ways. Writing for the persuasive was presented as an essay on why abortion should be accessible in every country, and to also outline the shame women receive.
As a woman who has experienced the horrific tragedy of rape and all of the trauma that comes with it, I personally find a woman’s right to have a say in her own reproductive rights to be of the utmost importance. Ever since the landmark Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade was decided in January of 1973, abortion has been deemed a fundamental right for women. Additionally, a woman’s right to access legal, safe, and professionally-performed abortions severely reduces the risk of death and bodily harm associated with less safe, unlawful abortions. Lastly, studies performed via peer review in 2013 found that women who denied abortions were more likely to suffer from mental health problems when compared to women who carried out the procedure. Furthermore, only 1 in 20 women who received abortions felt that they did not make the right choice in doing so. In other words, in order to ensure the health of women, both physical and mental, in the United States, it is vital that safe avenues for abortion remain available to the general public.
Abortion is a contentious topic; people are either pro-abortion or pro-life. The pro-abortionist are strong on their views, along with the pro-lifers. However, there is a way that people can agree with each other and come to a solution for the issue of abortion. The best way to come up with a solution is to answer the following question: Which laws should be passed that support both pro-abortion and pro-life without leaning towards one side over the other? There are numerous laws that could be passed dealing with abortion, but only few will cause both sides to agree with each other.
Hillary Clinton ever said, “We’re always going to argue about abortion. It’s a hard choice and it’s controversial, and that’s why I’m pro-choice, because I want people to make their own choices.” Yet, abortion is a truly heated arguable topic between proabortionists and antiabortionists. There are many reasons, tears, arguments, thoughts, and sins behind an abortion story. As a female, I have a privilege to give birth to a “fetus” and to be a mother, and so this particular topic really touched me.. Whether abortion is a woman’s right or a crime, it depends on how liberal or conservative each individual’s view is. Therefore, I want to explore more about this topic, not to prove that ones right nor others wrong, but to give more deep and thoughtful informations for everybody, not just women about abortion.
“You shall not kill.” Well over one million abortions were performed last year in the United States. Abortion, the termination of life, or Webster says “the termination of a pregnancy after or accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus:” There are currently eight methods of termination of pregnancy. The most shocking is the intracardic injection that physicians are using to get around the illegal “late term abortion”. Late term abortion is often done when the fetus is past 23 weeks and in some cases viable outside the mother’s womb. Two divisions are paramount in this debate over life Pro-Choice and Pro-life. Pro-choice are supporters of maintaining legalized abortions, and Pro-life are those that believe life begins at conception and therefore
Mother Teresa once said, “For me, life is the most beautiful gift of God to mankind, therefore people and nations who destroy life by abortion and euthanasia are the poorest. I do not say legal or illegal, but I think that no human hand should be raised to kill life, since life is God’s life in us, even in an unborn child.” Do you know what abortion really is? Abortion is the ending of pregnancy by removing a fetus or embryo before it can survive outside the uterus. Abortion seems to be more common in today’s society. Numerous amounts of individuals support abortion, and do not realize how it affects themselves and others. Those who do not support this poor decision may choose to let it interfere with their relationship with others. The
Growing up as a woman I am told what to do, how to do it, and what is expected from me as a female. I am given limited options when it comes to making any decision. What happens when I want to speak up? Who is going to hear my voice? As women we should be able to make any decision we choose and deal with any consequences that follow. I have witnessed many people shame women who make the choice to have an abortion. I have personally witnessed how women are forced to raise a child when it is an option for men. Men could at any moment up and leave a woman with a child they helped create. Is it ok for a man to terminate his father card but a woman is not allowed to terminate motherhood? Raising a child is a choice that only the women should have to make. It is not society’s decision if a women is to continue her pregnancy or not. When that baby cries it is not society that wakes in the middle of the night to cradle it. When that baby cries it does not cry out for society but for its mother. That baby will not be raised by no one but its parents so why should society have a say on rather or not a women should have an abortion. Society strips away the power of the woman when they take away are right to make choices that affects our lives. The fight between Pro-choice and Pro-life activists has been going on for decades. As a woman it should be our choice to choose if we want to continue or terminate our pregnancy.
We all know what an abortion is, or at least the basics of what it is. We also know that abortion is a highly controversial topic. However, many people don't know what actually happens during an abortion, or the effects it can have. There are so many things to consider, and we don't think about everything. We just think about if a pregnant woman doesn't want to have a baby for whatever the reason is, and then she shouldn't be forced to. However, that's not all there is to it and abortions should be illegal because regardless the reason, the situation doesn't effect the fact that you are taking a babies life, even if they are still in a womb.
It is exactly 11:00am on October 27th, 2017 and the recorded number of abortions that happened today alone in the U.S. is 1,165, and the day isn’t even halfway over yet. Over the course of the whole year so far there have been 761,863 and that number is only going up. World-wide for this past year has been about 1,450,000 abortions; that is over 1,450,000 lives that could’ve been saved and had a chance at life in this world (Number of Abortions). These numbers consist of mostly surgical abortions; they have not added the tally for chemical abortions. An abortion is a surgical or medical procedure to terminate a pregnancy. There are three different types of abortions: surgical and medical, partial birth, and late term abortions. Furthermore, there are different procedures for each of the different types of abortion, but they consist of surgical, medical, and chemical. Those who oppose abortion are pro-life. I believe that a fetus has rights even though it is not born yet, I am pro-life. With more knowledge that will be provided about what an abortion is, the problem with abortion, and what solutions and alternatives that are out there will prove these rights of a fetus and they should be given the opportunity at life.
The big topic for discussion in today’s world is abortion. Some people argue it's morally wrong to have an abortion, and that maybe because they don’t fully understand what abortion is and even why some women get one. I stand for a woman’s body is her own to do with whatever she wants. Therefore, on the topic of abortion, I am pro-choice on the abortion topic.
“The greatest destroyer of peace is abortion because if a mother can kill her own child, what is left for me to kill you and you to kill me? There is nothing in between” (Mother Teresa). The greatest type of love is between a mother and her child. It is unconditional and if that love can be destroyed by abortion, then peace could never exist. Taking a life of another human being through abortion is immoral. “Abortion has been performed for thousands of years, and in every society that has been studied” (“History of Abortion”). Abortion was legalized in January of 1973 when the Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade granted women the right to terminate their pregnancies (Liu). The option to abort pregnancy is one that all women should consider carefully. Teenagers are a group of young individuals where a choice of abortion can have lifelong consequences. Teenagers are often not ready to raise a child of their own and this is why they end up having an abortion. A teenager's brain does not fully develop until they are 25 years old (“Understanding the Teen Brain”). This is why teenagers make rash decisions in often trivial matters that do not have lasting effects. Everyone can remember a decision made during their teenage years that was not well thought out and later regretted. The argument to whether or not teen abortion should be illegal is a very controversial topic and ultimately it should be illegal. A teenager is faced with making a monumental decision that will affect the
The primary goal of the States is to make laws that will protect the citizens. However, recently people who rule forget about what kind of impact their laws may have on people, particularly women. Laws that prohibit abortion threaten the health of the women. Without having any choice, females who really need to get an abortion, choose illegal ways to do that, thus putting themselves at risk that may lead them to their death. One of the victims of this kind of laws is the friend of the famous author and feminist, Anne Finger. In her book, “Abortion,” Finger describes through what her friend had to go through when she found out that she was pregnant. Because of inability to have a legal abortion in the United States, Amber went to the drug dealer who was asserting that the specific medicine that he was selling would help Amber to get rid of the fetus. The poor girl trusted him because she did not have any other options and took the pills. “I thought I was going to die. I puked and puked and ran a fever of 103. Everything was wavering-the walls, my body, my insides pouring out of me, but my womb held tight… Anyhow, I was still sick at ten o’clock that night, I came home and lay on the couch, crying doubled over [the medicine]” (Finger 413). Being a 16 years old teenage girl, Amber experienced the pain that could be compared to the body burning in fire. Yes, she made a mistake that lead her to pregnancy, but if we think that everybody has to pay for their mistakes the same price
Since 2010 there has been over 13 thousand abortions in Alberta alone. It is estimated that there are 40-50 million abortions every year worldwide and 125 thousand every day. Without abortions young children would be dropping out of school due to the fact of having to watch that child they had, victims of rape would be living with a constant reminder of what caused them so much emotional pain and depression, and some children would be born with life threatening illnesses which could possibly kill the child anyway.
An abortion is a procedure in which a medical doctor removes the fetus from the pregnant women. In this world today, abortion takes place every second of every day. Some may say abortion is the killing of a human life but when does the beginning of life really begin? In this essay I will talk about the pros and cons of having an abortion. There are two main factors in the abortion controversy, the pro-life people and those who are pro-choice. It may help you have a better understanding on why a person would want to get this procedure or why they would choose not to get it.
