Dear Editor:

I wish to bring up some concerns that have, it seems as if the children in New Britain would prefer to play basketball or no sport at all due to certain risks that come with playing football. Now you might not see this a something thats relevant but from experience myself I can see less interest in the sport considering that this is a football town with such great history. As you can see I have alot of pride for my community and for the game. There's much more to this sport that many aren’t aware of young athletes including myself learn football’s unforgettable qualities of responsibility, perseverance, leadership, and teamwork. Children are sponges that wish to absorb life lesson and benefits. Perseverance, how to react when you get knocked down , the idea of teamwork, accountability, the element of toughness, learning what it takes to put maximum effort into something and knowing you can expect a certain outcome, selflessness, cooperation, time management skills, less participation in risky behaviors, family support, community involvement and communication skills all from what looked like “just a sport” the list goes on an on but from experience doesn’t sum up the total of life skills/benefits football has to offer. One-third of children are overweight or obese according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Not getting enough exercise seems to be the problem; football meets and exceeds the minimum amount of minutes a child should be exercising. At this point whether your child in fact is along the heavy side it creates an opportunity to burn vast amount of calories with motivation and having fun with going unnoticed. Football requires drills, running, and sprinting to help benefit your cardiovascular system and body to prevent diseases like diabetes, heart attacks, ect. in order to live a nice healthy life. “In particular football player who are overweight may lose 15 to 20 pounds in a single season”, Dave Cisar founder and president of Youth Football Organization.
