It’s hard to remember most of the things that you or someone else did when you were little, but there are some things you never forget. Most people love to read and find it relaxing, but I’d rather just watch the movie about the book. For me, one of those memories is my mamaw always trying to read a book to me as a kid when all I wanted to do was play with my dolls. When I was little, I remember my mamaw reading to me at her and my papaw’s big, stone house in Log Cabin. My mamaw always wanted me to love books the way she did, but I never really took to them. I have never had the patience to sit down and engage into a book without getting distracted by something else. But my mamaw, she could read all day if she had the time.
When it came time for bed, I would hurry and go jump into the bed and wait on her to get ready to come read to me. She would always read me this book called Wake up Lazy Bones right before I dozed off into a deep sleep

Some other books she would read to me were small, bible story books that came with more than one book all together. Some of these were “Jonah and the Whale”, “Moses”, and “David and Goliath”. “Moses” has always been one of my favorite bible stories because it is a story about courage. Moses’s mother had to put her son in the river and hope that he would make it to the other side without getting hurt. The bible has always been a big very big deal in our family. You could even say that most of our family gatherings are centered on the bible.
As you can see, reading is not on the list of my favorite things to do. I have never enjoyed reading and I probably never will. Although it is something I would like to take up as a hobby, I never find myself having very much time to read. Reading is very time consuming and I like to do lots of fun activities like swimming, spending time with friends, and playing with my
Some of the oldest and fondest memories I have from my childhood are those of my mother reading to me. Before I even began Kindergarten, I remember my mom reading stories to me from children’s books, or making up stories as she went along. I enjoyed listening to the stories and still remember some to this day. She also taught me how to write my name, count, and recite the alphabet. I loved the time I spent reading with my mom because she made it fun, so much so that I didn’t realize I was learning.
My love of reading blossomed when I was a child, because my parents showed me how wonderful reading is. There were countless nights when I remember myself as a little girl refusing to go to sleep before ‘tucking dad into bed’ by reading him a picture book. Not only did I uphold that tradition though, but my mother is a preschool teacher, so she gets really into reading out loud, and she would help me read books such as The Boxcar Children set, The Secret of NIMH and The Chronicles of Narnia weekly until I didn’t need help anymore.
As I look back on my childhood, I don’t remember a time when I wasn’t fond of reading. I love the way a good book just draws you in and it is almost impossible to set it down because you want to know what happens next! Looking back to my earliest moments I can always remember my mom and grandma always reading me books for hours and hours at a time. My favorite saying when I was younger was, “just read one more!” I couldn’t go to sleep without my mom at least reading me five books! My favorite was “The Little Mermaid” but I loved all of the princess books and I had possibly every one you could think of!
When I was a child, my grandmother use to read to me when I would stay the night with her. I always loved that. Every time she would get me a new book I would be so excited and wanted to read it immediately. I really wish I was still like that but unfortunately I am not. If we have to read a book in class I do absolutely anything to avoid it. I try to do anything I can to get out of it. But I never get out of it and just end up failing every assignment
I can remember the nights after dinner my mother sat and read different kinds of books to us. My sister and I love the Disney book. They were so delightful, like eating candy for the first time. Cinderella was one of my favorite. We clean up took, a bath and brush our teeth and waited on our mother to come read to us. I can remember one time I believe I was about five or six when my mother read Dr. Suess book The Grinch
When I was little, I loved to have my parents read to me all the time. At first, I didn’t learn to read because I didn’t want to read the “Learn to Read” books and preferred for my parents to read to me. I remember sitting with my Dad and following along while he read Harry Potter aloud to me and traced the words with his finger. Then we started to take turns reading aloud. I started to read more and more by myself after I was able to read the first chapter of Harry Potter (with a little bit of help). Then I worked my way through the rest of the book. I loved how reading let you explore new worlds and different points of view.
Have you ever had to do something that you absolutely hate, but have to do it anyway? That is how I feel about reading. It is not that I hate to read, I just have a hard time finding time to read. As well as, I have a hard time finding a book that grabs and keeps my attention. I love the idea of curling up with a good book, but it reality I just cannot seem to make it happen. To me, reading requires time, effort, and discipline.
When I was a little girl I treasured reading. One of my favorite books to read over and over again was Where the Wild Things Are written by Maurice Sendak. As I got older I lost interest in reading for
I really enjoy reading. I started from a young age, and was always surrounded by reading material. I took it up as a hobby once I started kindergarten, and it has been part of my life ever since.
The first memories I have as a child are of my mother reading to my brother, father and me. She and my father would sit in the small pale yellow hall outside my brother’s and my bedroom doors and in a modulated voice begin story after story. The tales started out with small books. Some of my favorites were “The Best Loved Doll” by Rebecca Caudill and “A Wrinkle in Time” by Madeleine L'Engle. As time advanced the books became longer and more challenging, to the point where I would sometimes have to stop and ask my mother what a word meant. In this way my parents were able to teach my brother and me as well as create family time after returning home late because of work. Time and pages seemed to fly by until we were reading the
Reading has been one of my favorite hobbies since I was a little child. I grew up as a normal child should grow and eventually I had to start learning for me to fit in society. My literacy started many years ago, after I knew how to talk and communicate with people. Reading my alphabet was quite stressful and I had to be given a hand by my family members. I remember my parents reading with me and it was the most meaningful and memorable way to spend time with me. This is because I liked reading a lot and I was eager to learn so that I could fit in with my older siblings. My favorite books were storybooks taking about adventures and fairytales
One of my greatest passions is reading. Whether it’s a biography, a thriller, a newspaper or even blogs, you’ll find me reading during my free time. When I was younger, I enjoyed reading during meals. While others were watching TV, I was either busy reading the bible or going through the newspaper to learn more on the current events. As I grew older, the habit grew and when I went to college, I had an easy time going through books during my research.
Being read to, it is one of the sweetest and enjoyable memories I have from my childhood. My Mom used to read to me a lot and I remember how she got my attention with this reading, something that was sometimes difficult for a hyper-kinetic child. The first book she read to me was “Lassie” and I am pretty sure her election was based on my like and predilection for animals, especially dogs! The reading was very describing and it developed my imagination and the habit of reading afterwards by myself. Pretty much this was one of the favorite moments on the day; after she had finish all the errands and meals preparations, we had this very special and close together moment where she laid down next to me in my bed.
Growing up, I would spend a lot of time with my grandparents because my parents were always working and it was easier than dropping me off at a daycare. My grandparents were avid readers; they read when they woke up in the morning, after eating lunch, and right before they went to bed. I guess some of that rubbed off on me after so many years of staying at their house and I started to read as much as them. My family never made me feel like reading was a bad thing and they fostered my love of reading since I was a kid. I don’t have one memory that sticks out as the most memorable because they were always so supportive. All of those memories come together to make one positive reading experience like every birthday I would get a book or a gift card to a bookstore or when I went with my grandparents to the grocery store they would always let me get a book and read it to me.
My early reading memories consist of reading to my brothers and family members. I remember reading books like, Three Little Pigs, and Cinderella. I also use to love someone reading me scary books when the lights were out. Reading along with mother made me feel important because she was much older than I was. That made me feel smart.
