I believe that we need to stop people from using their mobile devices when they are driving. Texting while driving has become a recent issue in today’s society. A lot of teens, as well as adults, have a habit of using their cell phones while driving, but tens are a large portion of the people who are on their phones while driving in todays society.
The United States cell phone and driving statics in 2012 showed that around 4,000 people were killed in distraction related crashes, and around 420,000 people have been injured in crashes because of a distracted driver. Delaware was the first state in 2005 to pass the law of no texting while driving. Currently 44 states have band drivers from texting while driving.

If you were to meet someone and make planes to go to a certain place, but then your planes get changed then would have your phone so that they would be able to get ahold of you to tell you what’s happening. There are ways to avoid even touching your phone. They have made advanced technologies that allow your car to have Bluetooth connections to a person mobile device, where if some were to call you, it would connect through your radio and you can talk to the person through that.
Its hard to enforce this law because if all phone usage is restricted its hard for police to find people actually using their phones, because they could just be looking at their GPS or changing the station on their radio. I think it would be hard to break the habit of people getting on their phones, but with time and commitment it could help.
I believe that we should enforce this law so they could stop people from using their phones while driving. With this said a police officer is aloud to stop a vehicle if a driver is on their phone while driving. With this law encored it should show that there was a significant amount of lives saved. Having an innocent life taken away because a person couldn’t wait to text until after the car has stopped is something that needs to be
Furthermore, ‘texting in cars and trucks causes over 3,000 deaths and 330,000 injuries per year as stated by a Harvard Center for risk study’ (Hanson n.p.). Just imagine all the lives that could be saved from deaths or injuries if people stop texting while driving because it is a major distraction for them. There belief is that they can multitask, but the sad reality is that the brain cannot do that. The brain has to focus in a particular task at a time. In order to do things right or correctly. Pennings a highway patrol helped demonstrate teens that texting while driving is a dangerous action. He made several so called “ Professional Texters” pass several obstacles while answering text messages and the results were not pleasing at all, cones were flying. The questions asked were not hard, yet they still manage to make the driver lose focus from driving. This is why implementing a rigorous law would come in handy. People will reconsider the thought of many things while being in their vehicles such as texting, eating and drinking, watching videos, putting makeup or grooming, etc. The states have not yet implemented a good law they only prohibit it during school zones or if a police officer sees you, but that is not enough.
One out four car crashes are caused by texting and driving. It has been proven that 94% of all teens acknowledge and agree that texting and driving is a very dangerous thing. However 32% admit to doing it anyway. www.edgarsnyder.com states, “660,000 drivers are attempting to use their phones while behind the wheel of an automobile.” This is an outrageously large number of people. This number needs to be reduced. “In a split second you could ruin your future, injure or kill others, and tear a hole in the heart of everyone who loves you. -50 reasons not to text and drive-”. Texting and driving should not be permitted on the road.
The importance of texting while driving should be addressed to anyone obtaining a valid driver’s license and can operate a vehicle. This particular proposal should develop a direct impact on life because it gives people a chance to see what can happen if a person continue to text and drive. People really need to understand how easily it is take the life of someone else or even themselves. And most of the time in many cases relating to this particular problem, it is always is the age groups ranging from 16 years of age to 30 years of age. I wish that this problem can get resolved quickly to avoid many accidents and death. Some
According to the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA), twenty states have banned handheld devices. Most states have already made texting illegal. I believe that making texting illegal is a start to a greater change, but more action needs to be taken. For example, the other thirty states need to work toward enforcing laws that ban texting for all drivers -- not just novice drivers, school bus drivers, etc. (GHSA). In regards to texting, Washington was the first state to pass a texting ban in 2007. This is a step in the right direction, but more states of this Nation need to be moving forward like Washington
It’s time to stop texting while driving. Most of the accidents are accused of distracted driving and most of the distractions are most of the time caused by cell phones. However, some opponents feel that creating a law against cell phone use infringes their personal rights. Other people assume that prohibiting from someone from using their cell phone is the same thing in just like telling someone that they can't adjust their radio or chat with someone else in the car. However, using a cell phone, whether you are texting or talking, while driving can be extremely dangerous; That should be made illegal in the fact that it is very hazardous to
V: Conclusion: Therefore according to the facts and statistics that were shown previously, people that are still texting while driving might think that they can juggle these big frames of steel they drive every day, with devices like their cell phones without paying the price, are greatly mistaken! First off, no one can say that texting while driving is not one if not the most dangerous action one can do behind a motorized vehicle. What can refute that problem that seems all around us whether commuting or not. Consequently due to the nature of the cell phone use while behind the wheel drivers should not have permission under any circumstance to text while driving. Regardless of the stance every individual takes on this matter, people need to realize the importance of this issue and implement the good driving behaviors. As
These days almost everyone owns a cell phone. Texting has become a worldwide phenomenon and people can’t seem to put their phone down, even when they’re driving. Most states in the US have illegalized texting and driving, but four states are still allowing this to happen. Texas, Montana, Missouri, and Arizona have yet to make this dangerous combination illegal. Texting and driving injures about 330,000 people per year.
2. According to a cross over study conducted by McEvoy in 2005, a driver's use of a cell phone up to 10 min before a crash is associated with a fourfold increased likelihood of crashing, and risk is raised irrespective of whether a hands-free device is used. An observational study by Wilson, Fang, & Wiggins in 2003 shows thatcompared to drivers who do not use cell phones, drivers talking on cell phones miss twice as many traffic signals, are more likely to swerve into the next lane (46%), tailgate (23%), have close calls (18%), and run red lights (10%)
Imagine you are driving down the road and you begin to notice the car in front of you is swerving. You start to wonder if the driver may be under the influence; you keep a close watch on the car, but keep your distance for safety precautions. All of a sudden the driver slams on their brakes to avoid hitting a pedestrian and you end up rear-ending them. Later you discover that the driver was texting on their phone and almost hit the pedestrian because their attention was elsewhere. How would that make you feel? Now, you have to pay to repair the damages on not only your car, but the other driver’s car as well. I believe that cell phone use while driving should be banned in all
Lastly, cell phone use by drivers has turned out to be extremely prevalent. Numerous drivers today have such occupied lives and never have the time to get things done in a day. This abandons them to do it while they are driving. Checking emails and texting someone is a top need for Americans and since numerous have cell phones, they will do it while they are driving. There are numerous laws being set up to attempt to keep diverted driving from happening, in spite of the fact that they can't totally stop it. Regardless of what age the driver is if he or she is texting while driving they shouldn't be on the road. Any person who is driving and hears a vibrating sound or ring on there phone nothing can prevent them from checking the notice on their
Gregory, I agree that the enforcement of a texting ban will be very tough and maybe even impossible. The only kind of way this kind of law could be enforced is if it goes all the way to ban cell phones entirely. If not, then a person could put down their phone or change it to the GPS to try to fool the cops. Which could be what the person in Georgia did. I think the main point of laws like the texting law is to try to discourage using the phone or texting as much as possible. If a cell phone law could save hundreds of peoples lives, then I feel it should be implemented. I don’t think just because Texans want a law then there should be a law. Texting while driving is dangerous, that’s why it should be a law. Things that are dangerous to everyone
I am in firm belief that prohibiting the use of cell phone (or any texting devices) while driving would be make the drivers and streets safer and or more aware. There are numerous reasons why texting and driving should be prohibited. For starters, human beings have a limited processing capacity. Processing capacity could be seen as a tank, while the water that fills the tank can be seen as tasks. Now how much water that is poured into this processing capacity tank are determined by whether they are high or low loaded tasks. A low loaded task would leave the tank with plenty of available room for other tasks while high loaded task would fill the majority of the tank up. Driving a car would be defined as a high loaded task, due to that driving a car takes a lot of cognitive processing. Including, at minimal both covert and overt attention combined with feature searching, visual searching, visual scanning is involved in the basic task load of driving a car. Figure in the low load task of texting into the filling of the processing capacity tank, the tank begins to overflow. What this means that something from the high loaded task must give up to make room, such as overt attention. When an individual is driving
There has been a rise in people losing control on roads because they are using technology while driving. It has very negative impact on drivers. People sometimes think that texting is not dangerous and it’s not taking much attention from the driver, but this is not true. In fact, most accidents in the United States are happening because of distracted driving which includes the use of phones and texting. According to the infographic, “Texting While Driving Statistics,” published by Infographics Guy, research that they have done shows, “that texting is more dangerous than talking on the phone, speeding and even drunk driving.” As we see in the article, texting is more dangerous than driving after drinking alcohol where your motors skills are impaired. The dangerous negative impact that texting has it’s not just on the person who uses the phone it affects people around them and it causes deadly accidents, and that is the most dangerous part because other people's lives are in danger because of our mistakes. The people who use drugs and alcohol while driving are going jail, but as we can see the texting is almost three times as dangerous as drunk driving. Then why don’t we use more strong laows on them why don't we take their licenses?, I think it will have a positive effect on drivers. The new phones, free messages, phone holders in the car and everything else has increased the growth of cell phone usage. Previously, a few years ago, it was not a big problem, but now it has increased to a great extent․ The texting and not only, every technology that people uses while driving are distracting almost all drivers, athe big percent of them are at risk. Before it was safer than now, as we can see in the article author Oren Musicant, “Do We Really Need to Use our Smartphones While Driving?” they have information that
Supporting material: Many states and localities already have laws in place that ban or restrict cell phone use in cars. Existing laws can be found at Cellphone and texting laws (May 2012).
Should stricter laws be enforced to prohibit texting and driving? Yes, stricter laws should be enforced because there are so many lives being taken from this world and it needs to stop. Over many years more deaths have happened because of a simple irresponsible mistake. When you are driving and you pick up that phone, you are not only putting your life in danger but also everybody else’s around you. Would you believe that more deaths happen because of texting and driving rather than drinking and driving? When under the influence you pay more attention, but when you use your phone while driving you take your eyes off the road and lose focus. You might not think you do, but when you text and drive, you end up swerving into another lane, rear ending someone because you did not see them stop, could run a stop sign or red light, or go way over the speed limit and not know you are doing it. Something needs to be done the percentage of people that text and drive, apps people use, all the jobs that consists of driving, the safety of everyone, teens thinking they are unstoppable, distractions everywhere, loss of focus, cell phone becoming a problem in society, and to fix this problem we need to make stricter laws.
