Nursing, in my opinion, takes full commitment from someone. One must be knowledgeable, dedicated, and willing to help others at all cost. My mother is the greatest nurse I have ever encountered and has been my inspiration since I can remember. She has been a nurse for over 20 years and I have been captivated ever since. I was born to do this, to advocate and help others that are in need. Being able to apply the knowledge and skills learned in a real hands-on situation has given me the utmost motivation to fulfill my dreams of one day becoming a nurse. I was able to successfully complete my rounds of clinical hours as part of my nursing program at various locations and departments. I was assigned to MD Anderson, Harris County Psychiatric Center, and Silverado Memory Care Community, where I was able to work with many different types of patients and become acclimated to the environment. The duties in which I was able to preform varied location to location but included, head to toe assessments, insertion/removal of Foley catheters, medication administration, tube feedings, trachea suctioning, and numerous care plans just to name a few. I was able to interact with patients one on one as a student which has instilled confidence and reassurance in my future.

Nursing has always been a popular career, and nurses work in a variety of settings. Most nurses have a bachelor's degree, but many nurses also have a master's degree. Nurses have several responsibilities. When you become a nurse, you are responsible for your patient's well-being and safety. You will have to care for chronically ill patients. By becoming a nurse, an individual gets to share special experiences with a mother and her new child by helping them throughout the birth process. Nurses will make several bonds and connections with the families and newborns they helped bring into the world. A level 2 neonatal nursery holds infants born prematurely or with an illness. A level 3 neonatal nursery, usually called a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), provides care to infants who are premature, brutally ill or too small. Another thing that draws me towards the career is the flexibility. A nurse is able to obtain a job in almost any state as long as they get the correct license for the state. Also, they are able to work in many different settings. A nurse can work in an office setting where the hours are set and they work a normal eight to five job. They are also able to work in a hospital setting, the hours differ when working at a hospital and some are required to work weekends and holidays. The physical demands for both setting would be different. Hospital settings would require lots of walking from room to room as well as running in certain emergency settings. In either setting though a nurse is required to be on their feet for long periods of time. It is not a job to where you would be stuck behind a desk.

Nurses rely on a board set of tools to do their jobs efficiently, including: Thermometers, stethoscopes, blood pressure cuffs and other basic health monitoring tools. You’re also going to need acute care monitoring units like scalp electrodes, fetal care monitors and bolometers, medical suction and vacuum appliances, including nasal-, oral-, and tracheal-suctioning equipment. Becoming a labor and delivery nurse may be one of the most challenging things a person could go through. Having to learn how to balance personal life with great movements a person could do. Becoming a Labor and Delivery Nurse is the one thing that I have always wanted to be. Helping all the mothers to be, bring their newborn babies into the world. Bringing happiness to little families starting form. But, as all things, Labor and Delivery nurses need a good and proper education. There are many situations in which a nurse can be caught in. Also, there is a lot of training in which the nurses should accomplish. You see, there are many steps that a future RN should take to make all her dream come true.

Before becoming a nurse, I would like to know the key aspects of this career. Such as the salary, more of what nurses do, the schooling required, the competitiveness, and if there are any benefits. I also want to know the negative aspects of the career to see what I’m going to be involved in and if I’d still be interested.

Many of us have our minds set on what we want to do in life while others are still trying to decide. There are many different fields that we can go into but whatever career path we choose there is a reason for choosing that path. Nursing is a field that is very wide and interesting and also a very rewarding career path. However to be more specific working in the neonatal unit can be very stressful for everyone.

In nursing, I will have to do lots of charting on my patients. I will have to do health presentations on various subjects such as exercising, how our society eats, and sex education if I want to be a course instructor. Researching information on all of those topics I will have to make sure I do an excellent job on and collect accurate information and statistics so that I can compare to other sources. Dictating to the doctor means that I will need to write properly so that he understands what I am saying. Other nurses will have to be able to understand what I am talking about by my writing skills when doing shift changes. I will have to be very precise so that other nurses will not

The benefits of becoming a Neonatal nurse would be going home every day knowing that I did my best to help save a life. To be a Neonatal nurse, I need to have the ability to be strong, efficient, resilient and I need to have the proper knowledge to take care of a tiny human body. As of right now, I don’t have the proper knowledge that’s needed to take care of a tiny human body, but hopefully I can attain these skills by furthering my knowledge in school. I also need to work on being more resilient. I realize that Neonatal nursing is something that can be hard on a person. More times than not, things don’t go the way they are planned and I need to be able to handle that e stress appropriately. I’m not sure how long it will take before I can become a Neonatal nurse but there is a sense of urgency to accomplish this goal.
