How To Succeed As A Nurse Midwife

Before becoming a nurse, I would like to know the key aspects of this career. Such as the salary, more of what nurses do, the schooling required, the competitiveness, and if there are any benefits. I also want to know the negative aspects of the career to see what I’m going to be involved in and if I’d still be interested.

Nursing has always been a popular career, and nurses work in a variety of settings. Most nurses have a bachelor's degree, but many nurses also have a master's degree. Nurses have several responsibilities. When you become a nurse, you are responsible for your patient's well-being and safety. You will have to care for chronically ill patients. Nurses work in a variety of health care settings.

If your higher calling includes a career in nursing, one of the best jobs to consider is a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). An LPN is on the front lines of health care, serving the public when they are most vulnerable. As direct care providers they must be detail oriented, knowledgeable and compassionate. Best of all, it's a profession whose job skills are in high demand both now and the foreseeable future.

Another thing that draws me towards the career is the flexibility. A nurse is able to obtain a job in almost any state as long as they get the correct license for the state. Also, they are able to work in many different settings. A nurse can work in an office setting where the hours are set and they work a normal eight to five job. They are also able to work in a hospital setting, the hours differ when working at a hospital and some are required to work weekends and holidays. The physical demands for both setting would be different. Hospital settings would require lots of walking from room to room as well as running in certain emergency settings. In either setting though a nurse is required to be on their feet for long periods of time. It is not a job to where you would be stuck behind a desk.

An RN will have to be able to lift at least 10 pounds, maybe even 20 pounds (“Registered Nurse” para. 4). A person in this career should have an energy level that is somewhat high, has a skill that is interpersonal, and a knowledge that is a little scientific (“Career” para. 6). If you happen to be an RN in a nursing home, an RN will watch over the LPN’s and CNA’s, may start fluids for the patient, make plans for treatments, and manage the patients health

Becoming a labor and delivery nurse may be one of the most challenging things a person could go through. Having to learn how to balance personal life with great movements a person could do. Becoming a Labor and Delivery Nurse is the one thing that I have always wanted to be. Helping all the mothers to be, bring their newborn babies into the world. Bringing happiness to little families starting form. But, as all things, Labor and Delivery nurses need a good and proper education. There are many situations in which a nurse can be caught in. Also, there is a lot of training in which the nurses should accomplish. You see, there are many steps that a future RN should take to make all her dream come true.

Nursing, in my opinion, takes full commitment from someone. One must be knowledgeable, dedicated, and willing to help others at all cost. My mother is the greatest nurse I have ever encountered and has been my inspiration since I can remember. She has been a nurse for over 20 years and I have been captivated ever since. I was born to do this, to advocate and help others that are in need. Being able to apply the knowledge and skills learned in a real hands-on situation has given me the utmost motivation to fulfill my dreams of one day becoming a nurse. I was able to successfully complete my rounds of clinical hours as part of my nursing program at various locations and departments. I was assigned to MD Anderson, Harris County Psychiatric Center, and Silverado Memory Care Community, where I was able to work with many different types of patients and become acclimated to the environment. The duties in which I was able to preform varied location to location but included, head to toe assessments, insertion/removal of Foley catheters, medication administration, tube feedings, trachea suctioning, and numerous care plans just to name a few. I was able to interact with patients one on one as a student which has instilled confidence and reassurance in my future.

The career I chose is a Neonatal Nurse. According to an article on work.chron.com, there are three levels of neonatal nursing. A level 1 neonatal nursery offers care to healthy newborns. A level 2 neonatal nursery holds infants born prematurely or with an illness. A level 3 neonatal nursery, usually called a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), provides care to infants who are premature, brutally ill or too small. Infants admitted to a NICU may require ventilators, incubators or surgery. If you are trying to pursue a career in nursing you should do your research on this field. I have learned so much about what it takes to pursue a career in nursing and that there is so much more to it than just choosing what kind of nurse you want to become, to find out all about nursing you have do all the research possible. There are many roles that a nurse has such as a caregiver, educator, advocate and many more. The practice level of nursing is very broad also, there are plenty of degrees that you can get as a nurse, along with the specialty areas of practice I want to become a pediatric nurse which would be a specialty area. The benefits of becoming a Neonatal nurse would be going home every day knowing that I did my best to help save a life. To be a Neonatal nurse, I need to have the ability to be strong, efficient, resilient and I need to have the proper knowledge to take care of a tiny human body. As of right now, I don’t have the proper knowledge that’s needed to take care of a tiny human body, but hopefully I can attain these skills by furthering my knowledge in school. I also need to work on being more resilient. I realize that Neonatal nursing is something that can be hard on a person. More times than not, things don’t go the way they are planned and I need to be able to handle that e stress appropriately. I’m not sure how long it will take before I can become a Neonatal nurse but there is a sense of urgency to accomplish this goal.

There are many different types of nurses that I already know of from experience. The demand for nurses is steadily increasing and will continue to grow nineteen percent until the year 2022 (“Registered Nurse”). For a student looking at the routes to college, going to school for nursing will give them plenty of degrees to choose from: a bachelor’s degree, associate’s degree, and more. After a student completes school to become a basic registered nurse, they then can go to school for one more year to specialize in a specific type of nursing. There is a substantial amount of specific nursing types that students can go into, an addiction nurse, or a neonatology nurse. The list of duties a nurse has to do are endless, so they will always be on their feet. The amount the graduate will receive will be an average pay, the longer he or she continues to work the more their salary will increase. Entering this field with the demand for nurses will increase the chances of receiving a job faster in a specific unit, and will later increase salary.

There are many fields a nurse can get into if they want to continue their education. After receiving their associates or bachelors they can choose accelerated options such as nurse practitioner (NP) basically a higher level of a registered nurse. They work more closely with the physician and are able to focus on patients’ conditions as well the effects of illness on the patient and their families. So they do more work closely related to prevention, wellness and patient education priorities. NPs can also conducts research and are often active in patient lives.
