Writing is like building Legos to me because in your writing, you are putting each new ideas together like the bricks to form a complete product for your reader. Before I am taking this class, I felt writing is just a mission my professor gave me that I need to finish one time and I was not really enjoying the process of writing. In writing 200, I have been working on writing and know I am ready to succeed at the next level because in 200 I learned the transition words, how to use different sentence types, and the different types of sentence errors. I am ready for my next class because I learned the transition words. Before I learned this skill my writing was scattered. Back in high school, my classmate always told me that my writing was scattered because they said they easily got lost in my writing. Due to the fact that I was only able to use a little simple transition words such as and, so, for, and or. After I learned this skill, my writing became much more fluent than before. My writing used to be very scattered, however my writing became better after using more professional transition words such as …show more content…
Before I learned this skill, I only know how to use simple and compound sentence, so my writing was always very boring to read and seem less professional. After I learned more sentence types such as complex sentence and compound complex sentence. My writing became much more professional and be able to give readers more desire to keep reading. One of the examples from my Divergent essay would be that “It’s a sign that started to change and she started to think about herself, which is the thing that as a Abnegation isn’t allowed.” By using the new writing technique compound complex sentence, I can join my two ideas together to form a complete
After this year, I have gotten far more comfortable brainstorming topics, instead of simply picking the first idea that comes to my mind. I am able to list out topics and choose the best one, allowing my writing to improve.Especially with the rhetorical analysis piece, as I brainstormed what I wanted to write about for each paragraph. I haven’t improved much in writing appropriate introductions, bodies, and conclusions, as I was already confident in that before I entered this class. I would like to think it is one of my strong suits. I believe I still have room to improve in my transitions, however. I’m not particularly good at finding clever or well done ways to lead into the next paragraph. Using multiple sources, though, is something that comes easy to me. It is not difficult to find topics relating to my own, and sourcing them is just a matter of a work cited or reference page, as well as an in text citation. Fitting quotes or information into my essay is not trying either for me. Revising and editing my work comes easy enough, although I do find it difficult to rewrite portions that did not turn out well. Websites like Paper Rater make it easy to correct grammar and word usage, which is
My strong points as a reader have also definitely improved after reading the poems and stories we experienced this semester. Writing has been an important form of expression for me. I find myself to be very soft spoken and speaking verbally is usually difficult for me because I can’t always seem to find the right words to say. I feel that I am more expressive and have more control over what I want to say. While this semester progressed toward its end, I have learned new writing skills and gradually learned how to engage with audiences. This skill was very useful in meeting my course goals in English 102.
Hence, seeing a problem someone else does and fix it when I do it. It makes me more conscious about my writing. Making everything have structure and fluidity is coming to me slowly. Transitional words can be tricky sometimes. Although, I am now able to pick them out in every youtube video. They use transitional words a lot. Therefore, their content is easily digested through our brains.
This course was comprised of many learning activities; each was designed to help me achieve the course learning outcomes. I have taken two college English classes in the past; however, it has been several years since my last college class. I have some experience in writing and this class definitely helped me get back into writing. I often have trouble brainstorming and capturing the subject I need to write about. This class definitely helped me overcome the challenges I faced in writing and being able to effectively express my ideas in a clear and concise manner. Not to mention, it definitely helped build my writing foundation through a step by step approach to each assignment. Therefore, this class bolstered my writing and communication skills.
Over the course of this semester, I have learned many things to improve my writing. Having taken the course before, this semester has been an excellent opportunity to expand on my existing knowledge. Although I had written many essays before, there is still much to be learned and improved. Two factors of writing that I had learned or improved on this semester were transitions/topic sentences and how to properly structure a conclusion paragraph.
Throughout the course of this semester, I have learned so much about writing. I used to think writing was my best skill in terms of school, but after taking this course, I realized I have a lot to learn still. In high school English was always my highest grade because of my writing, my writing in my SAT scores was always the highest, and last semester in ENGL 1301, I got a high A in the course. But this course has challenged me as a writer to think outside of the box and be more academically smarter in terms of writing. The journals have helped me write about things that we like more than the other assignments because it gives us more freedom and flexibility about what we can write about. These journals are being used as a tool as practice
During my former English classes such as Introduction to College Writing and ENG Comp I. I’ve learned that both composition courses focus on two different perspectives on writing. In my opinion, I believe that my grammar has intensively expanded a lot throughout the past year I have been in composition classes. Although, at times I had difficulties with my sentence structure. I begin to practice writing in repetition. My writing skills are improving tremendously. I wish I would’ve put effort into my writing skills before I began college level writing. My writing was probably the most significant skill that hinders me in most of my English composition classes. But this was not the reason why my writing wasn’t up to par. I just never critique my writing in a detail way to show that my papers are revise and well organized.
The writing technique that I need to improve on is my transition sentences to the next paragraph. I think it easier for me to start a new paragraph rather than end one
During this second semester, I learned about many techniques that enhanced my writing. I cannot believe that my first year of college is over because it seems like yesterday I attended my first class. I will use this techniques throughout the rest of my life to make my paper stronger and more professional. As I continue to learn I will add techniques I learn in the future to make my writing even stronger. I believe my writing is strong, but can
As time went by and I took different types of writing assignments, I improved the structure and organization of my writing. I learned the use of Standard English rules and styles in constructing sentences. I also learned how to organize my thoughts, ideas and experiences. Furthermore, I learned how to construct and maintain a coherent transition of paragraphs, as well as, how to select words, idioms, sayings and phrases that best suited the topic or purpose. With time, I even started to use diagrams to help organize my thoughts, ideas regarding the intended topic even before I write it. Learning how to remain relevant to a topic has enabled me to improve my grades.
When I ended my Writing 39 class that was the start of my endeavor to evolve into a better writer. My pervious writing class defiantly helped me make the transition to Writing 39B. This class is contributing to help me become a improved writer through the RIPs, readings, and rhetorical analysis essay . Writing has always been a subject that I struggle with, so this class is one of my challenging classes this quarter. Besides Writing 39B and I am taking Chemistry 1C, Chemistry Laboratory, Anthropology 1A and Psychology 7A. My additional classes make it difficult for me to dedicate extra time to this class. Nevertheless, I balance my classes to dedicate the appropriate amount of time into this class. I work diligently to complete the assignments
I am writing to explain why I am qualified to become one of your student in your Writing 2 course. Over the years of my academic life I have taken numerous literature classes, which accelerated my comprehension in reading and writing, preparing me for this course. I wish to enroll in this course to further refine these skills and learn more about how creativity plays an important role in writing and in my life. In addition, I hope to unravel and share my creativity with the rest of my colleagues through future discussions and essays.
Throughout this course, I have learned necessary skills used to analyze and respond to an argument, as well as how to develop my own. When I first started this class, I had a broad understanding of how to analyze a work and why that would be useful for my writing. Now, I know the proper steps behind analyzing a work and then synthesizing the information into my own essay. Looking back at the first three major papers in this course, I have been able to identify some of the strengths as well as some of the weaknesses within my writing, in order to create a plan of action for the last paper of the term.
My writing has improved in many ways this semester, one of the big ways (of which I
Although I have made great strides in some areas, there are many aspects of writing that I still struggle with. For instance, I feel that my organization and structure of ideas has much room to improve yet. With that being said, I still believe that I have learned valuable information and techniques that will have me prepared for writing
