One day a dragon hunter enters town and fearing for the dragon’s safety, the girl frees the dragon, but the dragon is adamant that he won't leave until he gets the dragon stone. The girl gets the dragon stone and flies away with the dragon. The dragon explains that the girl is the divinely selected individual and is the new dragon keeper. The girl who by Danzi (the dragon) is named Ping, thinks she isn't ready for this and tries to leave but she feels wrong. Conflict was displayed in two specific scenes of the movie. The first scene was when Toula?s parents are arguing about Toula going to school (Appendix A). Her father feels she should not go to school because girls don?t need to, and that she is fine doing what she is doing; working at the family restaurant. Her mother on the other hand, feels that Toula should go to school if that is what she wants. They go back and forth until Toula?s mom walks out. This argument is started because they both have different things they want. She ends the argument with a sarcastic comment, and it doesn?t get settled. Throughout their argument, neither of the two used any of the guidelines for conflict that we had learned about. Perhaps if guidelines were used the argument would not have ended on a bad note. Using such guidelines such as clarifying goals or using constructive criticism might have prevented the argument to begin with.
That’s when Danzi and Ping flew away. Ping finds out that Master Lan blames the deaths of the 11 dragons on her and says she’s an evil sorceress. This then leads to the next lot of critical events with Diao the dragon hunter and many other people who want the dragon and his stone. Finally, the resolution decides to show up. They reach the Ocean and Danzi says he’s going to travel alone with Hua to the river of renewal. Ping is stuck with the new baby dragon which just hatched from the dragon stone. The climax in this story would have to be when they reach the Ocean and Danzi says he’s taking Hua but not Ping over to the river of renewal. The main character is Ping. The character is realistic. Ping sounds exactly like a normal slave until they start talking about her being a Dragon Keeper and looking after the dragons. The way she changes during the novel is extraordinary. At first, she is a shy girl, who knows practically nothing and doesn’t believe in herself
Figuratively, the dragon is used to describe a number of characters and scenes such as Grendel’s fight with Beowulf
Conflicts can be found all over. Every so often it can be acceptable, such as the exhilaration and the expectations faced in the competition. On the other hand, it can be rather unfavorable between people. Conflicts aren’t just found in real life, but can also be found inside of fiction. Conflicts in fiction are used to move the plot forward, cause characters to adapt, and eventually develop the theme.
The American writer Flannery O’connor is known as a master of the short story for her ability to convey a striking central theme in a short work. Her theme of pride and vanity remains consistent throughout all her works as she reflects on the broken nature of humanity. The quote, “The dragon is by the side of the road, watching those who pass. Beware lest he devour you. We go to the father of souls, but it is necessary to pass by the dragon,” by St. Cyril of Jerusalem also conveys this same message. In order to get to the Lord, an individual must first pass the dragon which represents the temptation of the sins of pride and vanity. In all three of the short stories, “The Displaced Person,” “Good Country People,” and “A Late Encounter with the Enemy,” O’Connor employs a specific character to fight this dragon of pride and vanity in order to warn the reader to beware the temptation.
Young Douglas went to the castle, and spoke with the king. The king asked Douglas if he would behead the dragon. At first, Douglas was terrified, but then he remembered that,he was the chosen one,the one to defeat the dragon. He must prepair for battle.
The world is made up of two classes-the hunters, and the huntees.” This short story written by Richard Connell, “The Most Dangerous Game,” contains many literary devices that make a story come alive. In this specific short story, conflict, plot, and suspense are used to push the story onward. Connell's way of using these three specific elements keeps the reader attentive, and leaves them questioning what will happen next.

“The dragon is by the side of the road, watching those who pass. Beware lest her devour you. We go to the father of souls, but it is necessary to pass by the dragon.” (St. Cyril of Jerusalem) This quote was made famous by Flannery O’Connor’s writings. The quote is there to remind the readers that we will inevitably come across a “dragon” at some point throughout our lives. The dragon we see may take on many forms but all ending in some sort of suffering, pain, or bad decision. All the possibilities of the dragon depend upon the person facing it. O’Connor used this idea in the short stories, “A Good Man is Hard to Find,” “A Late Encounter with the Enemy”, and “The Displaced Person.” These stories in particular illustrate the same type of dragon, the dragon of temptation. In Flannery O’Connor’s short stories the symbolism of the dragon is used to carry a theme of temptation throughout the plot.
His early life was not the hardest out of all children. He was born on June 4th, 1738. He was born to Fredrick and princess Agusta. The sickly prince was expected to die and was baptized on the same day. He was born into a family of wealth.
St. Cyril of Jerusalem once said “The dragon is by the side of the road, watching those who pass. Beware lest he devour you. We go to the father of the souls, but it is necessary to pass by the dragon.” The road in which St. Cyril speaks of in this passage is the path one travels on his or her’s journey to Heaven, and the dragon is referring to the temptation one may submit to on that journey. Temptation is almost always present, but it is up to the individual to either acknowledge the dragon and ‘let him devour you’ or pass by and ignore the dragon. Flannery O’Connor wrote short stories with this quote in mind; she often depicts characters who become side tracked with pride, greed, vanity, etc. creating an encounter with the dragon on their
We can all agree that the Harlem Renaissance was one of the greatest and joyous milestones in African-American History. Harlem Renaissance was a time of racial pride between African-Americans and the precedents they made were proof such as the blues, their art etc., but what bothers men is that does high art or folk art best express racial pride? I believe both types of arts reflect black pride because it shows blacks as intellectually competent humans, showcases the Negros’ way to be themselves, write their own dialect and not care about other races’ opinion, it lastly demonstrates the pride of black people about their race and culture.
