I attended and graduated from Irvine High School in 1993. Immediately after graduation I started the summer session of community college at Irvine valley College., at the time I was under the belief if one had started the summer session that person would have a higher probability of attending classes that were desired. On a recommendation from a friend who had started college before me I enrolled in a Criminal justice class. This class began my interest in the criminal justice field. During this time I began living on my own, paying rent and working full time. I worked at a grocery store and then The Home Depot.
Working Full time and a young man’s social life, limited my time for college and also took away from my focus on schoolwork.
When I chose Psychology as my major, I was certain that I will be applying for graduate school in the future. The only problem was figuring out what psychology field I wanted to go into. While not knowing, I was still working to create a well-rounded resume by seeking experiences and develop new skills. That helped me a lot when I decided to go into Occupational Therapy as my graduate program. I felt like I was prepared mentally and that I had a good list of experiences under my belt. Nevertheless, the process of applying to graduate school is scary because of the fear of rejection. I need to stay positive and confident in myself knowing that I have done everything in my power to become a competitive applicant. Like everyone else, I have my
Over the last year the balancing of college life and personal life became over whelming. It started
During the next couple years of my life, I plan on graduating high school, and with the help of a grant, attending Clackamas community college for two years. During these two years, I will be a student and be working in order to save money for the rest of my schooling. While I am studying at Clackamas community college, I will be studying under their engineering programs in order to get a head in my Engineering career. After the two years of community college I will be attending a in-state college with an engineering program.
My progress on the essay dramatically increased after deciding to proceed after my shaky start. The paragraphs began to flow and the essay began to take form. I wrote about how my experiences with my both my school's rifle team and of the staff of a hospital I had visited, helped me form my career goals. I was highly pleased with the body of the essay, but I realized that the introduction was unacceptable and that I failed to support my thesis. Two of my former English teachers and my online course instructor all gave me the same advice on how to fix it, start over with a new introduction.
An accomplished Alaska high school coach is taking the reins of the Lane Community College cross country program this fall. Those are just figurative reins, of course, unlike the literal reins Bill Steyer has held in the past as a competitive sled dog musher.
My desire was to challenge myself and pursue my belief in life-long learning. And yes, the last eight weeks have definitely been a challenge intellectually in IDS 101. After the first two weeks of school, I seriously questioned why I would go back to school at fifty-one years of age for personal satisfaction. The days were long and I wasn’t sure I still had the self-discipline and determination that would be needed to finish. Over the last eight weeks, this class gave me numerous opportunities to hone my skills in critical thinking, research, and writing. This class has given me the necessary skills to continue toward completing my degree.
The one idea that drew me to a liberal arts college was the ability to take a wide breadth of classes from all disciplines. I hope to receive not just facts and memorization out of my education, but applications to other subjects and even daily activities. A prominent example of this is my potential major, physics. To prepare for an eventual career in the scientific field, this semester I am pursuing research in physical oceanography. Also, I joined the physics club in order to extend my learning outside the classroom, in addition to using this club as an opportunity to seek out like-minded individuals who also share a passion for science.
When I was a senior in high school I was accepted to Penn State and a few other schools, and was really pleased with how I had done at the end of my four years at my school, Council Rock North. But after a few weeks of investigating the potential costs and realizing that my savings would not be able to cover the costs of attending a 4 year school without putting my family and myself in a lot of debt, I realized that I could instead go to the local community college. I really liked this option because it allowed me to explore many of my passions for Computer Science without making a huge investment and locking myself into a certain path. Having now spent the last 2 years at Bucks County Community College, I've really deepened my passion for
Initially after high school I decided to move across the country in order to find myself, my passions, and my career goals. I attended WW-P South in Princeton Junction where many of my friends chose TCNJ. I always loved TCNJ but I knew I wasn't academically ready to be part of the community just yet. I started at a private university in California which turned out to be an amazing experience but also a lesson learned that it was not for me. Everything was new and overwhelming and it was the first time being completely on my own. After completing my freshmen year, I moved to a community college to do better academically and work a little on the side. My passion for pursing a degree boosted during my second community college that I attended.
I am a first-generation, Chicano and will soon finish my last semester before I transfer to a four year university in the upcoming fall. Coming from a first-generation household, I have had to overcome many obstacles to be in the position that I am now in. Community college has been a valuable resource that has allowed me to pursue an amazing education at a low price which has eased the burden of high tuition on my parents. Sometimes it is the cost of education that impedes those that seek it and scholarships are one avenue in which they become easier to travel down the path to success. Coming out of Gilroy High School years ago, I was unsure of what I wanted to major in and devote myself to but I had the amazing opportunity of enrolling in University of California, Merced.
This is my second year in COTC and I took GENR-91 last year. I am from china, and English is my second language. I came to the United States when I was 15-year-old and live in Dublin for almost six years and I have my high school in Dublin too. And I need to drive 40 minutes to get here every day. Before I attend to COTC I use one year to take the non-credit English class at Columbus state community college. After I graduate from the high school I feel like I am not ready for the college level class yet, so I decide to take some class before I get in the college. I take five classes this semester and I am in the nursing major.
Community College of Philadelphia has added new board members to its Foundation, which raises private funds for the 50th Anniversary Scholars Program.
I totally agree with what the author is saying in the text. It takes time to get a good product out even though we think some people are deep and wonderful they still have the same struggles that we have when it comes to writing. I like this text because it is realistic it is giving an account of first drafts from common day people and shows how it is even for professional writers have problems with. This point is important because as people we sometimes feel we are not as good or capable of doing something not realizing that the people we look up to have the same problems we do. Another point that I agree with the author on is that you have to start somewhere. Many times as writers we don’t know where to start when it comes to writing. That being said we will just sit and think for ten twenty minutes when we could've just been information on the paper and then editing it later. In addition I liked that the author used examples from his professional experience when it came to writing food reviews. By him using details like how he went to the restaurant and sat down with friends and took notes of what was said. This was good to me because it helps me connect with him and the things that he does to write his reviews.
This semester was my very first semester as a college student. Being the first, it was probably the semester I would learn the most in. I learned the expectations for writing that I will have to live up to for the next four years of my college career. Though my high school teachers were usually demanding because I was in the Honors English section throughout high school, writing in college has still ?raised the bar? for me. Also, in high school, we would have weeks to pick a topic, create a thesis, outline the paper, write the paper, and then revise the paper. In college, the time restraints are not quite as lenient. I?ve had to learn to manage my time and be more productive with what free moments I
A personal goal of mine in college and career is to be able to implement machine learning implementations in an interesting and useful way. Therefore, I am pursuing an applied mathematics, computer science, or statistics degree in college which will help me on my way towards taking my favorite subject of math and finding an interesting yet pragmatic way to use it in the workplace. Certain limitations my school provided were not being able to take a language freshman year and not offering a non-AP alternative to a third year of language. The school did offer many STEM focused programs and the ability to interact with members of the aerospace and aeronautics industries.
