The Life of a Tornado Have you ever seen a rotating wall of cloud in the sky? That ferocious beast came from the most violent type of storm known to man a supercell thunderstorm. A supercell has a rotating section called a mesocyclone. It is there where a tornado will call home. If the conditions are right, the rotation will tighten and start to draw towards the ground. At that point, the cloud trying to touch the ground is called a funnel cloud. Once the funnel comes in contact with the ground, it is officially a tornado. Most tornadoes last under 10 minutes. However, tornadoes can exceed 10 minutes. Scientist do not know all the reasons some tornadoes grow to be giants, but we do know a few reasons. One way they can grow is if a storm
It was a seemingly normal, sunny day in Kansas. It did began to rain, but that was normal, rain happens everywhere. I still remember everything from what I was doing, and where I was at. This is the story of the tornado that ripped through my town in 2011.
Tornadoes are devastating atmospheric events that affect the ecology and the lives of people in their paths. Tornadoes are defined as “a violently rotating column of air, in contact with the ground, either pendant from a cumuliform cloud or underneath a cumuliform cloud, and often (but not always) visible as a funnel cloud” (Glossary of Meterology, 2011). The Tri-state tornado was the most deadly tornado in the United States. It stayed on the ground for a total of 219 miles through areas of Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana, killed a total of 695 people, and an estimated $16.5 million in damages (National Weather Service, 2011). Luckily, the tornado’s path was largely rural farmland with scattered small towns between them. <Add thesis>
The way tornadoes form is when moist warm air and cool dry air meet and create instability and rotate around each other. Tornadoes can usually form more than one way. Other than the one I just showed you, a tornado can form from thunderstorms. The average time a tornado can last is about 4 to 6 hours till it starts to die down. When a tornado starts to form it will begin as a little gust of wind then it will turn into a whirlpool of mass destruction.
Tornadoes belong to the category of the most violent storms seen on earth, and the damage they have caused and will continue to cause is extreme. Just like any other storm no tornadoes are ever the same, however they all need certain kind of conditions to be able to form, specifically intense heat. When considering the formation of a tornado there are two other specific things that are of high importance; geography and rotation, following this the formation of a tornado and its subsequent life cycle can be explained as a series of stages or phases.
The minds of human beings have a wide variety. One thing is certain that the human mind develops from childhood & it all starts there. When you're in tune with your super ego at a young age that behavior can follow you. Examining the works “Tornado Child” by Kwame Dawes, “We Real Cool” By Gwendolyn Brooks & “The Kid” By Ai. Kwame Dawes is a African Born in Ghana July 28th 1962. Later he resided in Jamaica. His powerful poem “Tornado Child” was written in 2001 dedicated to a woman Roseline Richardson when she expressed her lifestyle to the famous poet. The work is about an outspoken, adventurous, & free spirit “Tornado Child” seems to be born in the jim crow era. “We really Cool” by
Most of the tornadoes take on the appearance of a narrow funnel, a few hundred yards (meters) across, with a small cloud of debris near the ground. The Tornadoes may be obscured completely by rain or dust. These tornadoes are especially dangerous, as even experienced meteorologists might not see them. The Tornadoes can appear in many shapes and sizes. According Russian international news agency, they classify the tornado in three broad classes based on the shape. They are water spout, land spout and multiple vortex. They describe the tornadoes as water spout is the most common types, land spout is the tornado whose diameter can exceed its height and the multiple vortex is the most powerful one that causes heavy damages (RIANOVOSTI, 2010). This paragraph is about Hurricane’s, Tornados and what they have in common. If you’ve seen a hurricane you know they do a lot of damage which one do you think does more damage? They both cause great pain and suffering for families. Both can cause a great deal of damage to homes or other buildings.
A tornado is a violently rotating wind that is followed by a funnel-shaped cloud of debris that moves in a narrow path over a body of land. Tornadoes are formed by warm, wet winds and cold, dry air meeting from opposite directions, also known as wind shear. then the air mixes together and starts forming a funnel of wind, pulling clouds with it. Eventually, the funnel-shaped cloud touches down onto a large piece of flat land (e.g. a plain). For example, in the United States, tornadoes form in the spring and summer time because that is when the warm winds of the Gulf of Mexico travel north, and the cold airs of Canada travel south, eventually meeting in the central lands of the United States because the land is very flat there. It wouldn’t
Tornadoes are natures most violent storm. On average, roughly about 1,200 tornadoes occur in the United States. Most tornadoes form without any warning and many also occur between the hours of 3:00 and 9:00 at night. So preparing ahead of time is a great opportunity to be formulated in advance, when this type of situation ever occurs in your area.
Tornadoes are caused by clouds that circle and make a space, called an eye, that keeps circling and goes downwards towards earth
First, tornados are formed by plenty of supercells. Actually, supercells are a huge cluster of thunderstorm clouds. In other words, heat rises up as it has a low vapor pressure and cold air drops down because of its high vapor pressure. (The National Severe Storms Laboratory) Because of this, the warm air in the end forms a vortex and forms a funnel cloud, also known as tornado.
On April 27, 2011, “President Obama signs Alabama emergency declaration” (Press). Tornadoes rolled through much of the Southeastern United States from April 25 to 28 in one giant storm called a tornado outbreak. While many states issued states of emergency, Alabama was hit the hardest. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, April 27, 2011 holds the record for the most tornadoes of any day, 200. Combined with an estimated single day death toll of 316, April 2011’s tornado outbreak has changed how scientists study tornadoes.
Tornadoes are one of the deadliest and most unpredictable villains mankind will ever face. There is no rhyme or reason, no rhythm to it’s madness. Tornados are one of the most terrifying natural events that occur, destroying homes and ending lives every year. April 29th, 1995, a calm, muggy, spring night I may never forget. Jason, a buddy I grew up with, just agreed to travel across state with me so we could visit a friend in Lubbock. Jason and I were admiring the beautiful blue bonnets, which traveled for miles like little blue birds flying close to the ground. The warm breeze brushed across the tips of the blue bonnets and allowed them to dance under the perfectly clear blue sky. In the distance, however, we
The strongest tornadoes come from the kind of long-lasting fierce thunderstorms known as supercells. As the name implies, these are intense thunderstorms, which can produce large hail and downbursts in addition to tornadoes. Supercells are most common on the Plains in the Southeast and across the Midwest, but do occur elsewhere.
A tornado is defined as a violently rotating column extending from a thunderstorm to the ground. The most violent tornadoes are capable of tremendous destruction with wind speeds of two hundred and fifty miles per hour or more. Damage paths can be more than one mile wide and fifty miles long. In an average year, eight hundred tornadoes are reported nationwide, resulting in eighty deaths and over one thousand five hundred injuries. In the body of my essay, I will tell you about types of tornadoes, where tornadoes come from, where and when tornadoes occur, the damage they inflict, variations of tornadoes, and how to detect tornadoes.
