The Treaty of Versailles was unfair, strict and cruel to Germany, how it compared to Wilson’s Fourteen Points, and how it affected Germany postwar. The Treaty of Versailles wanted Germany to admit it was all their fault. Between the Treaty of Versailles and Wilson’s Fourteen Points, the Fourteen Points isn't as hard on Germany as the Treaty of Versailles. Germany has to pay billions in war debt, which made their country starve. The Treaty of Versailles was very cruel to Germany due to unfairness, all the war debt which they are still paying today, and how it affects them after the war. The Treaty of Versailles, which was the official end of World War I, was the main cause that led to World War II. The Treaty was unfair and cruel to Germany which caused World War II.
Unfairness
Germany thought the treaty of versailles was unfair because they were blamed for the war and all the loss. They also did not get to take part in the conference in Paris. Germany doesn’t think they caused it because it was self-defence against Russia(johndclare.net). It was also unfair for Germany because they couldn’t do anything with their military except “German Army must not comprise more than seven divisions of infantry and three divisions of cavalry”(Treaty of Versailles packet). Germany’s army must not exceed 100,000 men(Treaty of Versailles packet). Germany had to let the Allied and Associated Powers all rights of the seas(Treaty of Versailles packet). Germany also couldn’t join the League of Nations and couldn’t get fair treatment by other nations(johndclare.net). They also made Germany pay 30 billion dollars which destroyed their economy and made most of their people starve(johndclare.net).

Some of the main ideas in the Treaty of Versailles are that Germany had to take the blame for starting the war. That was a big part because people got justice out of that. Germany also had to pay a lot of money for the damage that were done during the war. Next Germany was not allowed to own submarines or have an Air Force. They were only allowed to have a navy of six battleships, and an Army of just 100,000 men. In addition, Germany was not allowed to place any soldiers next to France. World war two was a very deadly and gory war, one of America’s most deadly in fact. Around 80 million soldiers, civilians, and Jewish people were killed. Between the years 1919-1939, the Treaty of Versailles affected Germany in many ways such as economically, politically, loss of German territories, and caused Germany’s armed forces to struggle. The Treaty of Versailles was when Germany and The Allies signed a peace treaty, ending WW1. The treaty stripped Germany 25,000 square miles of land and over 7 million people. The treaty also caused Germany to go into a great depression.
The Treaty of Versailles was a truly cruel document and expressed a large dislike for Germany. The document had a myriad of demands and if they weren 't met, then extortion was used to achieve goals. The treaty caused many hardships such as limiting the army down to almost nothing, stopped the building of large ships and took away submarines completely. Also, Great Britain and France collected money for all the damage the war had caused. To pay its war debts the country borrowed money from America, but soon after it stopped when the Great Depression began.2 In result, Germany had it 's very depression that was so severe the money ended up having almost little to no worth.
There were other reasons that the Versailles treaty upset Germany and therefore contributes to World War II. For example, the territorial losses, the economic losses and the war guilt helped cause World War II. However the main underlying cause of the War was the War Guilt. In this the Germans felt humiliated and angry. Adolf Hitler was able to use this anger to to build German pride and strengthen the military. This evidently led to the formation of the Nazi party. The Treaty of Versailles was unfair because Germany did not attend the Paris Peace Conference. In the conference, representatives from the Allied Powers were present and some from other countries (Doc 1) However, no representative of Germany was there. Therefore, they did not even have a say to what their consequences may be or anything in general. They could not defend themselves. This caused them to feel bitter and angry since in the end they were blamed about everything. This later caused World War 2. The treaty was supposed to conclude to peace but peace did not last.
