The telephone rings. It 's one of those collection calls we all have gotten at least once (if not more). “You owe a debt”, the ominous voice on the other end of the line says. “How will you pay it?”
There is, perhaps, no more important question for a Christian to be asked. Jesus walked intentionally to the cross where He absorbed into His body the full power of sin and by overcoming death itself indebted each of us who claim the name Christian until He shall come again. How will you pay the debt? With what coin? The answer you provide says worlds about how you understand your relationship with God, and the answers range all the way from “With my very life” to “Jesus paid it all”.
When we read Bible stories it 's pretty easy to paint the

I know. You 've always been taught that God speaks only through those who claim the name Christian, but hear again Isaiah’s words,
Thus says the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have grasped to subdue nations before him and strip kings of their robes,
“Cyrus” is Cyrus of Persia who allowed the Israelites to return to Jerusalem in 538 B.C.E. after their exile to Babylon. He is not a Jew; he is a Persian. When Isaiah calls Cyrus the Lord’s “anointed”, the word he is using, moshiak, is, in English, messiah. Isaiah is referring to this Persian king as the Lord’s messiah! However strongly you feel about it, God will act through those He chooses!
In the news of our time, Islam is short hand for murderous terrorists, yet here is Malala, all of 17 years old, in the White House with President Obama. And what did she tell the most powerful man in the world?
“The best way to fight against terrorism is through peaceful means. A war can never be ended by a war.”1
She went on to tell CBS,
“I 'm not scared of the Taliban. I might be scared of ghosts or dragons, but I 'm not scared of the Taliban. If you kill someone, you have shown that you are afraid of them. Why should I be afraid of someone who is already afraid of me?”2
This after the Taliban stopped her school bus, demanded, “Who is Malala?” and shot her point-blank in the head. The Taliban is frightened of a 16 year old girl with a book and a
The article, “Excerpts from Malala the Powerful: The Amazing True Story of a 15-Year-Old Girl who Stood up to a Deadly Terrorist Group” by Kristin Lewis, tells us Malala’s story and shows us how she advocates for children's rights. If the Taliban attacks Malala, she will remain in her position and tell them what they’re doing is wrong because everyone deserves an education. She won't fight with violence, but instead, will use her words against them and be determined to show them how everything they’re doing is wrong. This shows how she has a passion for what she stands up for. Yes, she is targeted by the Taliban, but no, that won't change a thing about her. She will still be the same girl who advocates for children and their rights to be able to receive the education they deserve. With passion and the ability to inspire, she changed the world and the many ways we see
When Malala began speaking she was only 11 and was only trying to speak her mind. The dangerous terrorist group has invaded her home city, and she had the courage to speak up against them expecting no fame. The Taliban enforce strict Islamic law and destroyed or shut down girls' schools preventing women from getting and education. The people living here lived in constant fear but Malala was one of the few brave enough to fight it. Malala chose to continue going to school and even helped lead a group of girls to furthur their education, which is very dangerous considering her circumstances. The radical group soon strikes back, attempting to assassinate a only 15 y/o activist. Malala survived a shot to the head, and dident let that stop her and dident let that stop her from advocating for womens education. She faced many tragities, making sacrafices and even putting her life on the line. Malala overcame many obsticals and those obsticals are one of the reasons she is so globally
Even though the family was frightened by the threat, they felt that the Taliban wouldn’t have done anything. On October 9 2012, fifteen-year-old Malala was attacked on a school bus. Getting shot on the left side of her head; then travelling down her neck. In the process, two other girls got hurt. “I come from a country that was created at midnight. When I almost died it was just after midday. One year ago I left my home for school and never returned. I was shot by a Taliban bullet and was flown out of Pakistan unconscious.” (Yousafzai 3)
Much of Isaiah’s messages to the Kings are in the form of political instruction. Isaiah first important message as a prophet comes during the time of King Ahaz. At this time Assyria has grown very strong. The North Kingdom is already vassal. Thus, the north and Aram are planning a rebellion. They threaten Ahaz by telling him to join the rebellion or they will invade the south kingdom. Isaiah’s message is to stay out of the conflict and trust God. Ahaz however, calls Assyria to aid him and uses treasures from the temple in order to bribe the Assyrians (Brubacher, Meta). In the end, Assyria crushes the rebellion saving the south but making them vassal in the process. The next king, Hezekiah inherits a vassal nation. He is most known for his rebellion against Assyria. Isaiah tells him to stay out of the revolt as the lord will take of the situation. Hezekiah believes he will have a chance since a new ruler recently took the throne and decides to join the rebellion. In theory, this mentally would have made sense. The time of a new king taking the throne is the best time to rebel. His disregard for the message
Malala Yousafzai is a young woman speaking as a young education advocate at the Youth Takeover of the United Nations. This was her first speech since she had been shot in the head by the Taliban in Pakistan on October 9th, 2012. The Taliban targeted her because she was blogging about her own right, and the right of all women, to an education. Her purpose is to inform the people of the denial of education to children around the world. She is also trying to persuade her audiences to join her campaign in ensuring all children gain their right to education before the end of 2015. Her primary audience was all of the delegates who attended the Youth Takeover of the United Nations, and all the people fighting for education. Her
The article, “Malala the Powerful” by Kristin Lewis, describes the roughness of Malala, a Jewish girl, who like many girl Jews, crumbled in the hands of Taliban. Malala was alive when the Taliban took over Pakistan. She and many other girl jews were kicked out of school and forced to follow all these stitched rules. In 2009, Malala took action and started a blog. She talked on T.V shows about how hard life was like and was standing up to the Taliban. In 2010, the Taliban shot Malala in the face but she and many other Jews still survived. Though she lived in rough and tough challenges, Malala show lots of courage trying to stand up to the Taliban and their powerful government.
Indeed, He had called them out as His Chosen People. All of this was part of the Israelites cherished history. But you can’t live in the past. History has its place, but it must be kept in its place. The Israelites were challenged not to think that their greatest victories with the Lord were behind them. Isaiah’s prophecy charged them to forget the past…its comfortable familiarities, and even its shortcomings and disappointments. It was true that the Lord had brought them through the Red Sea, but He was also prepared to take them through the wilderness. Isaiah commanded the Israelites to look ahead, and he prophesied that God was going to do a new thing!
Mouw mentions that there are several ways in which humans have used the Old Testament in order to justify and reinforce racial prejudice (Mouw 71). He wants us to see the Holy City as a multinational world with no distinctions between God’s people. He says, “Christians should point to the love of neighbors as the ethical norm for the regulation of relationships among people” (Mouw 72). As it says in the Bible, Israel is God’s people and acts as a representative of the nations. Mouw indicates that both Jews and Gentiles will receive the benefits of God’s redemption. He uses the prophecy of Isaiah 19, in which the Lord refers to the Egyptians as “[His] people” (Mouw 76). People argue that the Old Testament supports the opposite view, in which gentile people are seen as inferior. In the beginning of time, God did make a covenant and established Israel as the representative of his kingdom, but he didn’t forget about everyone else. God has a plan for his creation and both blessed and cursed Israel for its position. The Holy City that Isaiah talks about reverses the curse of Babel. The curse of Babel is where God’s people let greediness and egocentrism take over their lives and God punished them by confusing their tongues and dividing them throughout the earth. Mouw believes that it’s the duty of the Christian community to pursue racial appeasement: “We must voice our protest against the suffering caused by the kinds of
They wanted to make an example of her. In 2012, on her way to school, 12 year old Malala’s bus was stopped by the Taliban, once her identity was discovered she was shot in the head at point blank range. The intention was that Malala’s death would strike fear into the other girls, to get them back under Taliban’s control. However, not only did Malala live, but she thrived! With the help of the United Nations, the American and English governments, she has inspired other girls around the world, started a foundation to help other girls, (www.malala.org) and has become the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize!
Malala she was persistent and did not stop because terrorists threatened her. In addition Malala knew the consequences that would follow if she continued to speak about Girl’s education. At age 11, Malala wrote “what was happening in her homeland, Malala began to write about her experiences, producing a blog for the BBC’s Urdu-language service”(Bush). Malala is very amazed and how she is willing to stand up for what she believes is right. Most people would be very worried for their lives and would not want to stand up against the terrorists. Furthermore Malala after being targeted by terrorists.Malala stilled continued to talk about women rights and school for girls. Malala was on a bus and a terrorist came in and shot her. “Malala was shot because “for the past three years she has spoken
“The enemy of America is not our many Muslim friends. It is not our many Arab friends. Our enemy is a radical network of terrorists and every government that supports them.”
“Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel American resolve”
In Isaiah chapter one verse two the Lord has spoken. Proclaiming the Lord as the ruler of the heavens and Earth.
Malala manages her impulsivity to achieve her goals as a teenage activist for girl’s rights for education.(Malala Inc: Global operation surrounds teenage activist,2013). ”I don’t even hate the talib who shot me.Even if there was a gun in my hand, and he was standing in front of me I would not shoot him.”-Malala Yousafzai. Yousafzai was 15 when she was riding the school bus home when a taliban shot her in the left side of her skull. They also injured two of her friends.(Malala Yousafzai Becomes Youngest-Ever Nobel Prize Winner,2014) Even though Yousafzai was shot and terrorized by the taliban, but still spoke up for girls
The book of Isaiah provides a message to the nation of Israel and is one of the most powerful books of prophecy in the Bible. The prophet spoke of events to come that many have attempted to discern. Scholars, Rabbis and Christian Clergy differ in their interpretations of these passages in Isaiah 52 and 53.
