How World War I Affected American Society

On December 7th, 1941, Japanese fighter planes staged an attack on U.S naval and military forces based in Pearl Harbour, Hawaii. In around just two hours, America suffered from approximately 3,435 casualties including 2,000 deaths. The shattering defeat cost the U.S, 8 battle ships and around 200 airplanes. The following day, President Roosevelt asked Congress to declare war on Japan. This was approved, and more than two years into the conflict, America had eventually fully committed to the war.

In the beginning of the 1900s, was World War one. This war lasted for about four years from 1914 to 1918. During this time, there were different events that led to this war taking place. From these events that led up to the war, there were impacts from the war on the United States. For example, a couple events that led up to WWI was when Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia for the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand.

More than 18 million people died in World War 1, 11 million of those were military personnels and about 7 million being civilians. The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary on June 28, 1914 is seen as the main start of World War 1. World War 1 substantially impacted American society, particularly women, African Americans, and the 1st Amendment A major effect of World War 1 was that women became more independent.

On july 28,1914 world war 1 began.what had started this big war was the assassination of the archduke. For many people this war was known as the first war or the war to end all wars. World war 1 was when Great Britain, France, Russia, Belgium, Italy, Japan, the United States, and other allies defeated Germany, Austria-Hungary, Turkey, and Bulgaria. Between 1914 and 1918 15 million soldiers were killed and 20 million were wounded. The conditions were very crucial for the soldiers at war and their families at home.

With war, there comes changes. Some changes are good, while others are bad. World War 1, also known as The ‘Great War’, changed America. Beginning in 1914 and ending in 1918, America witnessed much devastation. Many lives were lost, some countries faced a massive destruction of property and horrible economic depression.

When America decided to join the war, they knew what was coming and they knew America would never be the same again. My father knew this too when he was recruited to join this war. They said World War One would be the war to end all wars. Many lives were lost in this ruinous war, and many lives were sacrificed. Living in the United States of America, this war had changed our society and our country in many ways.

In 1917 America entered World War one. By doing this America played a grave role in conquering Germany and ushering peace to Europe. However, the Great War also meant that the US would change dramatically through historical issues and changes which resulted in American society. Industries had started to realise that it was not as simple as it was before to abstract the immigrants. As the country developed and became more successful it attracted outsiders who were searching for chances. During the 1920¡¯s the United States began to confine immigrants due to cultural and economical purposes. The immigrants faced several afflictions such as: racism and religious oppression. World War I had drastically changed American society. Women’s roles in society were changed as men were drafted or had joined the army. Racial tensions between whites and blacks significantly increased as racism and segregation were implemented. The government begain to take general control over its people in both their social and economic life. Three factors that drastically affected the American society were the changing roles of women, the increase of racial tensions, and the greater government intervention of its people.

World War 1 was a war that lasted from 1914 to 1918 and was a war that involved and was molded around alliances. This war in Europe would eventually turn into a global war that would involve 32 countries. United States involvement was crucial to the outcome of World War 1 and made a serious impact in our country. Both positive and negative effects were felt by Americans during and even long after the war. Mixed feelings were felt from many Americans for entering the war that would affect society.

What started World War One and the events that drew the United States in to it? A young man by the name of Gavrilo Princip shot and killed the archduke heir to the Austrian throne, Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie at point blank range. Princip actions cause an outrage among the Europeans which escalated the bitter freud with the Serbian and the Austro-Hungarians. The disputes over and many other issues lead to the Austro-Hungarians and its German ally declaring war on Serbia. The Russians allied with the Serbians. With this move the Germans declared war on both Russia and France. During the conflict, the Germans drew the British in the war by using parts of Britain land to reach its enemy. The war in Europe would evolve into a global conflict that would involve 32 countries. The United States involvement was critical to the end result of World War 1. Both positive and negative effects were felt by the citizens in the Triple Entente countries during and even long after the war.

World War I began in 1914 as a result of several things including alliances and nationalism throughout the world, and imperialistic nations attempting to gain more global power. The United States tried to stay with the foreign policy known as isolationism and stay completely out of the war. However, due to Germany’s severe actions, America was forced to enter the war in 1917 on the side of the Allies. This greatly helped the Allies in accomplishing a victory. The war ended in 1919 although there were still bitter feelings between the different countries. Throughout the twentieth century, both World War I and World War II significantly impacted American society in several ways. Franz Ferdinand’s assassination is what many people believed sparked World War I. The United States joined World War I in 1917 as an ally (fix this eventually!!!) Woodrow Wilson outlined America’s goals for the war in his Fourteen Point Speech. In this speech Wilson mentions the United States being “privileged to assist the people of Russia to attain their utmost hope of liberty and ordered peace.” By responding this way the United States has taken on the responsibility of helping the Russian people from (Whatever they need help from). Wilson said, “We entered this war because violations of right had occurred which touched us to the quick and made the life of our own people

The United States entered World War I because of German submarine warfare against merchant ships trading with Britain and France, which led to the sinking of the RMS Lusitania in which 128 American lives were lost. [3] The US had also intercepted the Zimmerman Telegram which had been sent between Germany and Mexico, urging Mexico to declare war against the United States. [4]
