In the story “I Just Wanna Be Average” the author Mike Rose argues that society very often neglects and doesn’t see the full value and potential of students.
In his op-ed, “Are Kids Too Coddled?,” author Frank Bruni argues that children need to be exposed to the harshness of reality. According to Bruni, “praise… can lessen motivation and set children up to be demoralized when they invariably fail at something” (par. 25). By showering children in praise even when they are not successful, students will never learn the importance of hard work. There is no reason to put in effort to go above and beyond expectations if mediocre work receives the same amount of acknowledgement. Due to the excess of undeserved praise, Bruni believes that “students have an inflated sense of their academic prowess” (par. 26). Students expect to get good grades without studying and working hard. In order to reverse the damage caused by sheltering our children, Bruni argues that an application of more rigorous standards in school is necessary to make America’s children “ready to compete globally” (par. 29). By setting higher standards, students will be able to learn more and attain true academic excellence.

Mark Rose once said in the essay I Just Wanna Be Average, “Students will float to the mark you set.” This quotation means that in order for students to succeed in there academics they need a teacher who will demonstrate to the students that they believe and have faith they will succeed in there class. In order for many students to reach there potential the teacher needs to be supporting and willing to take the time to help there students and give the encouragement they need to succeed. Students are all at different levels so some will “float to the mark” at a faster pace than others, but some will be lazy, and others will drown. Throughout my life education has pushed me to succeed in my future, and has motivated me and many students through the education system.

Reynolds appropriately explains how there are problems with the education system and how it will continue to fall; he then presents ideas on how fix the issue.
In case you have been living under a rock for your entire life, you may have noticed that the education system of America is a complete disaster. To put it delicately there are many flaws with the current system we have in place. One of the major flaws of the education system is that it takes an insane amount of your time and money all for just a fancy piece of paper. There was a time when America’s education system was top-notch according to the culture and society. With time, a myriad of things has changed, but unfortunately what has not evolved is the American education system. The country is still following a system which was not designed for the current global economic climate. Equality, as positive as it sounds is not as sufficient when it comes to education. Even though we know the problem it would be almost impossible to change the system at this point, it would then mean to change our entire culture. Our basic problem in our educational system is that the credit that is earned is not properly given to the precipitants that deserve it. The immediate needs for our educational system is not about more money or better teachers but simply a widespread of F’s given. The title of the article, “What our Education System is more F’s.” by Carol Singleton, a professor at Fort Hayes State University. Sparking an interesting topic that has effectively betrayed the readers attrition. He argues that Americans do not actually care about their education as long as there is not disturbance, and everything seems to be working fine. What is it that’s making our country suffer from excelling in education? Very few would argue about the importance of our education system today. Issues such as lazy teachers, lack of parent involvement, and teaching useless information in class may hinder progress in today’s education system. An education plays a crucial role and is an essential tool, unfortunately, with all the jaded judgments; our students are not able to value their education. A proper education can open the doors to many opportunities that would have never been possible if it had not been for the knowledge and preparation that one received while in school. With the growing economy and desperate times, it is more important than ever for our country’s children to receive the proper education and training that is needed to allow them to acquire a good job and produce the revenue needed to live. America is a blessed country in numerous ways, and its citizens reap the benefits. Free education is one major benefit that not many other countries provide for their citizens. While it is only a privilege to many, but in the States, people have the right to be educated. However, free education cannot be translated to success for all. For those motivated ones who cherish the privilege to be educated are those who climb up the success ladders later in life. For a certain majority of students in the States, our current educational system may not seem to serve its purpose.
