Howard Schultz is the current CEO of the famous and well-known Starbucks Coffee. He was born on July 19, 1953, and grew up in a Brooklyn, New York housing project. Schultz got a football scholarship from Northern Michigan and was the first in his family to graduate from college. He first got a job working as a salesman for Xerox Corporation. He later moved back to New York to sell kitchen equipment and housewares for a Swedish company before landing a marketing job at a small coffee bean store called Starbucks. He traveled to Italy and was inspired to open an espresso bar in the United States. Transformation leadership often encompasses a mix of Autocratic and Democratic leadership. Autocratic with the sense that the entire team is driven by the same goal and given tasks but is allowed to speak out and give opinions and contribute to the company. Democratic leadership is defined as leadership, which allows the employees to voice their opinion. Ultimately, business decisions are still under the leader’s responsibility, and keeping the consideration of other members in mind (Cherry, 2103). Transformational leaders have four ways of motivating their employees. The first is through intellectual stimulation and that is when they challenge the status quo and encourage creativity from their employees. The second is through individualized consideration. For instance Schultz involves offering support and encouragement to individual employees, often being great communicators, listening to other employees ideas and giving direct recognition to that employees contribution. The third is inspirational motivation, where they have a clear vision and are able to communicate to their employees and motivate them to same goal. Lastly is idealized influence, where the leader serves as a role model for their employees, gaining respect and trust.
