As mentioned in chapter one and three, the present study was conducted in order to investigate how magical events influence the development of main character in the novel Howl’s Moving Castle. There were six magical events that influence major character development found in the novel. From these magical events, the data analysis revealed there are two kinds of magic laws that are influenced the development of main character the most: consistency and limitation. Meanwhile, in terms of functions of fantasy, escape and recovery become the functions that mainly take a part to shape the main character’s development. More detail of each of the finding will be further elaborated in the following sections respectively.
4.1.1. Magical Events
According to Stableford (2009), magical event means something that happens outside the normal working of cause and effect; in which, there is intrusion of supernatural elements or the accomplishment of a fixed spell. In the novel Howl’s Moving Castle, the researcher finds six magical events which mainly influence the development of

It is stated that Sophie was born to an adequate family who run a hat shop as the eldest of two. However, after her mother died, her father married to the apprentice of the hat shop, Fanny. From the marriage, the family has another daughter which makes Sophie the eldest of three; which implies she is now bound to the magic of Ingary. This is the first magical event she experienced. According to Stableford (2009), magical event is something that happens because the intervention of magical elements which then causes to the unusual cause and effect system. In Sophie’s case, she is just cursed by the rule of the Land of Ingary which causes her to be the unluckiest daughter in her family for the entire of her
Inherit the Wind is a play by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee that depicts the infamous Scopes Trial. The real names of the persons involved in the case were changed, however, the play recounts the same story. One journalist in the story, E.K. Hornbeck, who is closed-minded, a hypocrite, and very cynical proves that the religious community of Hillsboro is not the only one to be intolerant.
In the story House of the Scorpion, written by Nancy Farmer, the main character is Matt Alacran. The main setting is in the future in the opium fields and Atlzan. In the beginning of the story, we meet Matt in Celia's house. The main conflict in the book is Matt being a clone, the whole entire book Matt worries about being a clone and that people will know and what they will do. The solution to the conflict is that all the Alacran died and he is now a real person since El Patron died.
In the story “House Of The Scorpion”, written by Nancy Farmers, the main character of the story is Matteo (Matt) Alacran. The main setting of the story takes place in the country of Opium. In the beginning of the story, it describes a man named Eduardo who delivers a baby Matt from birth from a cow. There were thirty six split cells of life in the beginning, but only Matt was the droplet that lived. The main conflict of the story is Matt himself; he is a clone of the one of the most powerful drug dealers, El Patron. Besides only a few characters of the story, everyone despises him and is disgusted being close to him as well because he is a clone, whose status is lower than a cockroach. Due to being a clone, the reason he is alive and not turned into an eejit (people with computer chips in their brains and acts like zombies), is to be used as spare body parts for El patron when his organs stop working. The solution is that El Patron is dead and all of his successors are too. At the end of the story, Matt becomes the new lord of opium.
I believe that one way you can look at the book The House of the Scorpion through a lens is by considering how class plays a role in the lives of different characters and their relationships in the book. Some characters whose lives have been affected by their class include: Matt, El Patron, and the Eejits.
Survival of the fittest has never been about physical strength, mental hardiness and intellectual prowess has always been paramount to an individual’s success in difficult situations. In The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, a family of six nomads travel the country in search of adventure and despite crippling debt, neglectful parenting, and tough living situations three of the children eventually find stability and a more permanent home. In this riveting bildungsroman several life lessons and themes are revealed through Jeannette’s intense life experiences. Through the anecdotes in The Glass Castle the reader learns that necessity is the mother of invention and how the Walls’s mentality of mind over matter helps them overcome discomfort that
Throughout the Glass Castle, the reader is able to recognize a development of self sufficiency and self growth in each character. This occurs due to their parents giving them limited opportunities. There are many examples of these themes, and many relate to how the kids were raised by their two unreliable parents. Rosemary Walls, Jeanette’s mother, is the more difficult out of the two parents. This is because of her constant neglect of the kids needs and her tendency to put herself before anyone else, and it is worse because she truly believes she does not do enough for herself.
In the novel The Glass Castle I would say we was most influenced by her time in Phoenix Arizona. She is starting to figure out who she is and what she is capable of such as confronting her father about being an alcoholic. Her father did not really enjoy living in Phoenix. Rex wasn’t the kind of guy who likes living in a city. The city was bad for rex but good for Jeanette.
The concept of a magical guide or supernatural aid informs the audience of unworldly guidance that follows after the acceptance of “The Call to Adventure”. The texts “A Once and Future King” and “Le Morte d’ Arthur” both exemplify an entity, Merlyn, that invades the life of a hero, Arthur, as an aid in order to guide him to victory regarding his journey and adventure. Heroes are often began on their trip by a character who has aced the laws of the outside
How long does a bond stay between two people? How about when the two were stranded on an island naked and afraid? In the Goats we encounter an unusual relationship which is made over time between two kids who went through with similar experiences. Many wonder if the bond will end shortly after their journey. On the other hand people believe their bond will stay strong after their journey, which is believed that can be done. Since they have been through the same hardships together, they had the opportunity to leave each other which they didn´t, and a bond that strong doesn't end that easily. Howie and Laura will remain close friends for many years, the terrifying experience they went through is evidence of this.
Global Warming has silently crept into our society today because of big business, lack of technology, and greed. And now with a new generation of citizens who understand what we have been doing to our earth have to stand up and do what is right. Global Warming refers to the increase in the earth’s average temperature induced by human activity. Most discussions on Global Warming today show similarities between an increase in global temperature and the increase in carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, methane, and chlorofluorocarbons in the atmosphere. Human activity increases the amount of these gases in the atmosphere and, as a result of the greenhouse effect, increases
Whilst the character of Macbeth is initially portrayed as a noble kinsman, his ambition and motivation, directly influenced by the witches and Lady Macbeth, ultimately transforms him into a corrupt and ruthless tyrant. William Shakespeare’s most famous tragedy “Macbeth” clearly depicts this notion of change, illustrated through Shakespeare's utilisation of literary techniques. The tragic downfall of Macbeth is mainly attributed to Macbeth’s own greed and hubris.

I don’t know about you, but for me so far, all of our author’s attempts to get an explanation about what witchcraft is has failed. We know that witchcraft is the cause of misfortunes and personal injury sustained by the Azande people through what they believe to be no fault of their own, but I think we have yet to have any understanding of what causes witchcraft itself. Where does it come from, who causes it, and is it in any way like a sort of karma believed to be punishment for bad deeds like in eastern philosophies? I think we need to take a deeper look into witchcraft and what the Azande people are actually talking about, because from what I’ve gathered so far, the Azande believe that witchcraft is an unexplained phenomena of independent events that in no way should have had any reason to take place simultaneously
In recent months, Protest of the National Anthem led by NFL (National Football League) players taking a knee rather than standing with their hand over their heart has captivated headline news. The protests, were initiated by a former 49ers backup quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, in response to his dissatisfaction with police brutality and injustices against African Americans. Some might wonder why he would protest the national anthem rather than use another form of protest to convey his message. Those who don’t support the NFL players right to “Freedom of speech” such as our current President, Donald Trump are calling for the players to be fired if they continue to “disrespect” our flag and National Anthem with their peaceful protests. The opposing views raises the questions of social, political, and legal responsibility to both the nation and private businesses.
