Team G is made up of myself, Nick, Bill, Hannah, and Cintia. When I look back at our discussions and how we worked on the motivation group assignment, we had already established an order of things prior. In the beginning, everyone exchanged cell phone numbers so we could reach each other in real time and notify when we were posting information for review or if we added or changed information that was being worked on. The establishment of how to communicate with each other was vital and instrumental in being able to stay on task and get our assignments completed in a timely manner. Several of our team members will play devil’s advocate to make sure the directions we are given are clearly followed. The group individuals have demonstrated different talents during being a group and we have all just in consensus (without speaking it) allow that person to take over the portion they are expedited in. For example, Cintia is great at graphics she’s demonstrated a talent for using different software creating eye catching graphics to our projects, therefore the group knows that Cintia will take that portion of the task on if it’s …show more content…
However, if we spent a few moments to get to know each other a bit better, we might find that bonding a positive component in working together in this group and completing assignments. Individuals in group G have expressed their concern with another class group they have and how the communication is not flowing as it does in this group. They are frustrated and overwhelmed with the issues that are problematic in the other groups. There has been descriptions of social loafing and levels of conflict in discussing some of the issues the individual group members have expressed. One of the main complaints is based on how they communicate which is a slow process if only done via email, which one of the group mates has express of how they
During my co-op work placement, I was employed at Evichat Inc. in the position of Full Stack Developer. The total size of the company is 5 people. The Software Development team where I worked with was relatively small compared to other companies as it is an early stage startup. Throughout the work placement, I was worked on projects that involved integrating with third parties including Relativity and Clio, improving web app security with role based authentication and improving site SEO.
Have you ever felt unappreciated in a job? Do you feel on edge that at any given moment you could be replaced? Or has someone you are supposed to trust to put down your efforts? An effective leader should make sure you aren't left wondering these questions. I have worked in the special education department at a high school for three years under the guidance of the principal. During that time I have not been told that I am doing a good job or given any recognition. I am not alone because the majority of the department share the same feelings. Instead of mentoring us into the type of employees he desires he makes these negative comments. With no justification, since he rarely takes time to visit our classrooms, he has called us a “toxic department” and has repeatedly said “we should just start with a clean slate”. In the beginning I tried to approach him however, he
For the summer of 2015, I enrolled as a student in University of Maryland University College (UMUC) to start the journey of earning a bachelor's degree in Cyber Security. For the starting course requirements, Writing 101s was one of the three classes I had picked to begin with. When I first started off in this course, I considered my writing skills poor, with unorganized paragraphing and horrible grammar skills. Now, I am able to write great with more organized essays, proper sentence structures, and also gained researching skills for future research projects or assignments. This course has dramatically increased my confidence in writing and I feel that I am able to write at college level and not middle or high school.
To begin with, part of my job is to write or compose programming code which is systematically on it's own. Provided that, as part of the team conducted the measurement. The project that I can think of as the most broad case where we applied a scientific method throughout the organization was the search for proper and efficient solution to handle incoming support request sent to the IT department. Prior to implementing the ticketing system, IT support request are posted via email through an email group that includes all members of the IT department. This has been the standard procedure for years, it has worked well and preferred by many staff. That said, our organization has hired several employees, redefined departments and increase individual
This week’s lesson in forum 1 each onlinemate was to submit a thread in response to 5 questions after reading chapters 1 thru 3, plus show how a biblical worldview be applied. Also, according to the grading rubric for week 2 we are told to reply to 2 classmates’ threads. One of the thread I have chosen to give a reply to is Bernice Flores. The response to this forum will be based on 2.08 Discussion in the Publication manual of the American psychological association (APA), sixth edition (2013, p.35) and two premises on which sampling theory is based; the characteristics of accuracy and precision for measuring validity (Cooper & Schindler, 2014).
I am a math major student. Since I am doing pretty well on math and joined the practice session for the Putnam competition when I was in my freshman year, I enrolled in Math Advanced Track program. In the advanced track program, I have access to all math honors courses and I can require to override math courses without meeting requirements. At the end of the first semester, I got a chance to work for a professor in the math department. This is my first formal research on mathematics, which makes me very exciting. Since I am good at Matlab, I am doing computer programming and started to learn SDP. SDP is the core algorithm in the research. In addition, I take 2 math honors courses per semester, plus taking Putnum session and have 2 clubs. I am the president of the MSU Aikido club and member of the MSU MMA club. And my GPA is 3.9 cumulatively.
This is my placement report which will talk about my year long industrial placement as a full time employee at the Midlands and Lancashire commissioning support unit as part of my course of study on the BSc Hons Computer Science. During the report I will introduce the company and share some background information in regards to what the company is all about. This report will mainly revolve around my placement position at the Midlands and Lancashire Commissioning support unit and the work I have been involved with during my time at the company. In relation I will report about the training and work experienced I gained as a computing professional and how this industrial placement proved to be an priceless experience as it enabled me to become a more proficient individual and computing professional
“It’s a homerun when you and the customer agree on what is expected and you are able to deliver exactly that. Know that customers who take time to explain their concerns are doing you a big favor. Set up a system to learn from breakdowns. Strive to match customer demands for level of quality, pricing, and accountability” (Gray, 2017). With the new sales representative role at Best Value, I would take the advice previously mentioned. Listening to the consumer and meeting that need would be the first priority of my role and managing expectations. This would also serve as a platform for the company as well to see if Best Value is able to meet the growing needs of their consumers and revisit the services and products that are offered by them.
Our group, was very successful with communication. We choose each other for this task as we both knew we worked well together and would bring the best out of each other. At the beginning of the task we allocated roles and when they would need to be completed by to make sure we stayed on track. We also throughout the lesson would check up on each other or when we needed information that the other person has. We both shared roles with research and I made the slide show and Kalea the survey monkey. Allocating roles at the start was great because we always knew what to do and were focused.
In group one, the main component that seems to be working the best for everyone is our communication method. We developed a group message, primarily because texting is easily accessible for all four of us and definitely a common form of communication we are all used to. Moreover, Google Docs is also working well, I will share documents and open access for everyone to edit. This seems to work efficiently because we are all extremely busy and can work on the documents on our own time or at the scheduled meeting time. Moreover, everyone in the member has open access to every document and can express their own thoughts regarding the writing. So far in our group there has not been a significant problem which has emerged. Thus far, everyone has completed
Based on the studies by Dennis Gouran and Randy Hirokawa, “the researchers suggest that effective group problem solving and decision making are most likely to occur when group members attempt to satisfy task requirements” (Beebe & Masterson, 2015, p. 47). The functional approach to small group communication is concerned with the results or outcomes of behaviors and structures. Communication helps team members by encouraging rational assessments and analytical thinking, as well as stopping team members from faulty or flawed decision-making and problem solving (McGraw Hill, 2016). This theory helps group members overcome constraints such as stress from deadlines, the team project
In a quite similar study, Bushe & Coetzer (2007) examined 208 undergraduate students, enrolled in an introductory organizational behaviour course, by testing their performance of task groups and furthering the studies of group development. The students were divided into 52 teams; each team was assigned smaller tasks due each week as well as a complex case that was due at the end of the course; questionnaires were also used during the semester to evaluate the group’s developmental progress (Bushe & Coetzer 2007). By grading the results of the case and using statistics on the results of the questionnaires, Bushe & Coetzer (2007) discovered that: as long as membership within a group is unclear there will be no team effectiveness and group development will lag. However, when membership is clear and groups become aware of their competencies, there will be a sense of “congruence” and the team members will work together to achieve the goals of the team more effectively (Bushe & Coetzer, 2007).
From this we can understand that without communication nothing can be done, members of the group need to be able to communicate with one another in order to complete the assignment; but communication is not always as simple as talking to one another, you also must be able to understand what you are being told, and this is where other factors like cultural difference and physical surroundings have to be taken into consideration. Cultural difference can hinder your communication because of the difference in pronounciation, accent and tone of voice. Physical surroundings can also be an issue because one will not be able to concentrate in room full of people shouting. However, as a group we able to avoid this from happening because we made sure we worked in a quiet environment where it was
We would sit in a reserved room in the library and simply go through the outline of the project and answer each question first verbally before writing anything down. While brainstorming and pitching ideas, we would just express our ideas and other members would give their opinion on that idea or add upon it to make it even better. Another communication we used was climate which is creating an environment where everyone is encouraged to contribute and feels comfortable enough to contribute. We were able to create this kind of environment by joking around with each other and not using any kind of negative language towards each other. We did not use procedural because we were not organized or punctual at all and we sort of just went the flow and worked on project every now and then. Lastly we did not use egocentric either because not one person led the whole group or devalued other member’s ideas.
Another key aspect we looked at in our groups was our member participation. With the tendency to not have everyone in class that our group faced, it was hard to check on equal participation. With group messaging and last-minute meetings we were able to even out the participation. I found that Katie was our information seeker, Allison our evaluator, Chelsea our orienteer, Justin our coordinator, and me the energizer. This distribution of responsibilities and jobs was hard to coordinate with one another but learned to focus on each other’s strengths. While in group projects, one tends to find an unequal distribution of participation within a group. Our group faced this same challenge with some people putting in more effort than others. We faced some help seekers and withdrawers, as our book talks about, but were able to corral them back into our speech.
