The chapter continues with the two boys, Tom and Huck, carefully walking through the path. They walk past the kitchen, where they try to avoid Jim, Miss. Watson’s slave. Jim hears them and comes to investigate. The two boys are hiding, while Jim comes close to them, but doesn’t see them. Jim decides to stay in that position until he hears the noise again. While Huck is debating whether he should scratch his nose, Jim falls asleep. Tom tells Huck about Jim, that he is respected by the other slaves, for going against the devil. But Jim had begun to become cocky for seeing the devil and fighting the witches.
Tom goes with Huckleberry to a graveyard and both of them witness the murder of Dr. Robinson by Injun Joe. The town thinks Tom, Huck, and Joe are dead after the three of them flee town. Tom secretly goes back to town without anyone knowing and listens in on the commotion that is happening in town. Tom decides to return to town during the funeral planned for him and his fellow friends. When tom returns to school he takes the blame for the book that had been damaged by Becky to get back on her good side. In court Tom testifies against Injun Joe, he ends up escaping the court house. Huck finds out that Joe has planned
His father yells at him for being able to read and go to school. He dislikes how Huck is trying to be better than he will ever be. Huck is forced to move in with his father in a cabin away from the Widow Douglas and Mrs. Watson. Hucks dad continues to torment him and take money for alcohol. One night Huck’s father is so drunk he almost kills Huck, in defense he holds a gun all night just to be safe. With no other way out, Huck fakes his death by making it look like Pap killed him and runs away without telling anybody. This stop is significant for Huck because it reminds him of what his old life was like. Just as he was starting to like his new life and getting used to being civilized, he had to revert back to his old ways. Finally, this stop showed that Huck was so desperate to get away from his father that the only thing he could think of doing was to fake his own
This young boy’s name is Huckleberry Finn, and he is brave and yearning for adventure. He begins the story with a newly acquired fortune, but goes back to living in rags and in a barrel. Huckleberry is convinced by his best friend, Tom Sawyer, to go back to living with “The Widow” so that he can join Tom’s newly created band of robbers. The Widow Douglas is a woman who takes Huckleberry as her son and does her best to “sivilize” him: teaching him how to behave and forcing him to go to school. Huckleberry slips off and joins “The Tom Sawyer Gang” and pretends to rob people for about a month before he resigns. All this time, Huckleberry is getting used to living with the widow, even admitting that he likes it a little bit. Then, one day, his father shows up, demanding his fortune and eventually taking him to his log cabin, hidden in the woods. There Huck hunts and fishes, but is not permitted to leave. Eventually, “pap got too handy with his hick’ry” so Huck escapes down the river when his father is drunk. Huck hides on Jackson’s Island and meets Jim, The Widow’s slave. Huck learns that Jim had run away from The Widow and so they decide to help each other out. But when Huck learns of a plan to search the island, they leave down the river. Several days later, they almost run into some robbers on a wrecked steamboat and manage to escape with their loot. When Huck and Jim land on the bank
Aunt Sally and Huck seem to bond emotionally over the safe return of Tom. Tom wakes up and starts to spill and confess everything that they had done. Aunt Sally was astonished and could not believe it. He confessed to all the work and everything that they had collectively stolen.
Why do you think Tom was so willing to help Huck? (Besides the fact that they are friends)
After planning and executing one of the most needlessly complex rescue plans, considering Jim has no one guarding him, they begin to run away. Someone peruses them and Tom is shot in the leg. Huck goes for a doctor, and Jim sacrifices freedom to help Tom. The escape proves to be pointless, as Jim was already a free man. Miss Watson added to her will that Jim would be free after death, and she died two months earlier. To add to this, Jim revels that a house floating on the river they looted had Pap’s gun-shot body inside.
Huck starts listening to Tom instead of listening to himself. And what Tom does gets
As the book starts, Huck introduces himself by stating about his character in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. He opens the book by saying what a great book it is. Being the narrator, Huck explains that Mark Twain, author, told the truth in Tom Sawyer, which was to expose the racial discrimination against African Americans.
Jim and Huck go in an adventure and when they return to Huck’s hometown, Tom tells them that:
The primary relationships of Huck with the Widow Douglas and Miss Watson as well as Huck with Pap and Huck with Jim are established. Throughout the novel, Huck takes on different identities to further his attempts at freedom. In this section three of these identities are seen. One is Huck, the dead boy when he “kills” himself in order to cover his escape from Pap at his cabin and the other is Sarah Mary Williams whom he disguised himself as when he attempted to get information and later George Peters emerges when Sarah is discovered to be a boy.
The father tried contacting his brothers in England but they have not responded. While the family is weak, two con men sneak in disguised as the sister’s uncles and take advantage of their nativity. Huck feels bad for the sisters and tries to help them by telling on the conmen to one of the sisters. The town realizes that the con men might not be the real uncles and questions them. They capture the con men but they end up escaping.
Throughout the first few weeks of working on the Mental Heath Unit at Victoria Hospital, I was exposed to many new and different situations in regards to patient care. One situation in particular that stuck out to me occurred during my first week when I was working with a patient who had schizophrenia and paranoia. During this time, I was required to give this gentleman his intramuscular (IM) depot injection of Invega Sustenna, which assists in managing the symptoms of schizophrenia. For confidentiality reasons, this patient will be referred to as Roger for the remainder of the reflection.
According to Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave”, our ability to understand certain things comes with restrictions. Our perception is certainly one of them. How we react to situations and what we see is a topic that’s subject to many debates. On the other hand, realism works around a ‘fact only’ basis: it favors the literal truth and practicality rather than creativity.
