Human Resource-Risk managers help assist the director in tasks related to property insurance, workers’ compensation, safety and other functions. They receive and review workers’ compensation, Medicaid and safety claims and route them to the appropriate person, they also refer employees to correct providers. Human Resource-Risk managers are responsible for reviewing all materials to be brought before the Director of Risk Management and routes correspondence to him or appropriate staff. The Human Resource-Risk manager is responsible for providing schedules for the Director of Risk Management and scheduling meetings. I shadowed the Human Resource-Risk manager for 1 day and 4 data clerks for two days. The first day I arrived to shadow the Human Resource-Risk manager I arrived at 8 a.m. on a Monday morning and stayed until 4 p.m. The Human Resource-Risk manager has held her current position for 12 years, but has been in the field of HR for over 20 years and is experienced in all aspects of human resources. During her shift she explained the process of nurse, therapist and bus driver orientation since this is the beginning of the school year, new employees go through this process. She stated it takes 2 hours to explain the Medicaid billing procedures and to distribute necessary materials. The incumbent is also responsible for overseeing the day-to-day work of the data clerks. She ensures all incumbents are working on designated tasks and that work is completed in a timely manner depending on urgency. During the incumbents shift I observed her scheduling meetings for the director, and answering calls about employee’s workers’ compensation and unemployment claims. Around 10 a.m. the incumbent sent a maintenance employee to check playground equipment at two elementary schools. The incumbent took one 15 minute break and an unpaid hour lunch.
