Sikkink mentions that the case of Mexico was different when it involved human rights violations. Mexico did not have any human rights organizations to make them accountable for what was going on. One of Mexico’s most serious human rights violations was in 1968 when students were having a peaceful demonstration in Mexico City and they were fired on by army troops. (Sikkink 428) The Mexican army killed around forty-three students, which was the amount that the government admitted to. Although the people that were actually there said there were about five hundred that were actually killed.
