ABSTRACT With the advancement in technology, robots are diversely used in various advanced critical domains such as search and rescue, military battle, mine and bomb detection, medical field etc. These new domains of applications call for a closer interaction of the robots with the user. Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) is thus an emerging field of interest for the researchers with a goal to build an intuitive and easy communication with the robot through speech, gestures, or facial expressions. The prototype designed in this work aims to explore the field of Human-Robot Interaction (HRI). The primary focus of the work is to design a portable, smart, and cost-effective system using flex sensors which identifies the extensive hand movements of the user and wirelessly transmit it to the robot. This portable device can capture the user’s hand gestures which correspondingly control the robot’s direction of motion as well as the gripper action and thus the overall system can effectively work as a semi-autonomous device, thereby exploring the use of robots in all the critical fields where human access is challenging and thus limited.
