Introduction
Human services are primarily concerned with promoting a persons’ wellbeing and welfare. It is a service that is provided to individuals to assist in stabilising their life and obtain independence through empowering, guidance, and the supplying of basic needs (HumanServicesEdu.org, 2015). In human services, there are a variety of disciplines that can be undertaken, a prevalent human services sector, would include mental health.
Mental health refers to an individual’s emotional and social wellbeing. When one has a sound state of mental health, life is manageable but if one’s mental health has declined, it can impact the emotions, judgements and actions of said person, while also, potentially leading …show more content…

Over the past three decades there has been collaborated work between the government via the National Mental Health Strategy in order to develop services and programs related to mental health, enabling a more profound assistance to the mental health needs of Australians. Although there are a range of supports available for mentally ill individuals and their families, only one third of individuals with mental illness actually use these health services (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, 2016). There are ways to manage the dilemmas that are faced when experiencing a deterioration to one’s mental health. The following recommendations can assist in providing a stable ground.
Within a clinical practice role in human services a recommendation for the practitioner would be to assess the media habits for each adolescent. This could be achieved through the clinical interview. For example, clinicians could begin to approach this with an adolescent by asking what technologies the individual actively uses. It would be important for the practitioner to inquire about the different social media usages frequently used and to gain an understanding as to what specifically they are using the sites for.
