“Human slavery is a robust, multi-billion dollar industry- only drugs and weapon dealing are more profitable,” said Dr. Noel Busch-Armendariz. Human trafficking is expected to have generated 32 Billion US dollars (“Factsheet”). Abducting humans into forced labor of any kind that generates this much money is absurd. Slavery has been illegal since 1865, however human trafficking is growing rapidly in the United States because of crime, poverty, and gangs. Human trafficking isn’t a well-known crime, though it happens more than people would expect. Human trafficking is a form of modern slavery that involves both sex and labor trafficking. The traffickers benefit from the victims’ actions. Often, traffickers utilize violence, threats, and debt bondage to deceive their victims (“Human Trafficking”) . Human trafficking is forcing someone to become a slave to that person, for whatever they want. Once these victims are caught, there is little chance of them getting free again. The three most common types of today’s slavery consist of pimp-controlled prostitution, escort services, and commercial-front brothels (“Human Trafficking Trends). Commercial-front brothels are businesses, such as massage parlors, or other businesses disguising as something other than what business is really happening there.
