Psychotherapy is any type of treatment that uses psychological rather than biological means to treat psychological disorders. For example, cognitive, humanistic, and behavioral are all different types of psychotherapy. Each of these methods have their own unique techniques to treat psychological disorders.
Humanistic therapies use methods such as active listening, empty chair, and telephone techniques to help clients realize their inner potential and express their thoughts and emotions. They are different from behavioral such that, they don't try to remove a certain behavior.
The second type of psychotherapy is behavior therapy, it differs from humanistic in that they treat behavior modification. This therapies use techniques that help

Psychotherapy is helpful in helping people overcome problems but sometimes biomedical therapy is also utilize to achieve the goal of sustaining a good quality of life for someone seeking help in dealing with personal problems and disorders. “Psychotherapy is a psychological treatment that employs various methods to help someone overcome personal problems, or to attain personal growth”(PSY101-14.1). Sometimes a person can overcome personal problems with psychotherapy alone. For example, a person can seek help in dealing with depression. A therapist can utilize a cognitive-behavioral therapy, a form of psychotherapy, to help the individual change their way of viewing the world in a more positive way to help with depression. “Biomedical therapy
One type of therapy used is psychotherapy, which “should focus on helping the individual understand the nature and consequences of his disorder so he can be helped to control his behavior” (Black, 2000). Another type of therapy used is cognitive therapy,
We first have cognitive therapy, this components delineates how the client understands the world around them and how well they face problems and as a result leads them to the choices and emotional stage they are in. Cognitive therapy focuses on the clients thinking and their emotional state and how they got there. The second component deals with the behavioral part. Behavioral therapy, focuses on actions instead of thoughts. It best equips the therapist with the tools necessary to properly pin point the client’s behavioral pattern and stimulating certain positive rewards that later lead to positive changes when encountering certain problems or issues.
One form of the behavior therapy involves recreating situation that causes anxiety to a client, and another is virtual reality exposure therapy these method use to conquer fear. However, humanistic therapy can help individual achieve their potential, become more self-aware, and accepting of themselves in the present and the future. In addition, therapy that approach the past and unconscious is called psychodynamic therapy, focuses on unconscious processes as they manifested in a person’s.
Doctors define Psychotherapy as “a service provided by a trained psychotherapist to recognize and treat mental, emotional and behavioral disorders in their clients by psychological means. The process utilizes various forms of interaction and communication to accomplish this goal. The treatment may be for an individual, a family unit of a group. The approach is also called talk therapy” (Nugent). Psychotherapy breaks off into three groups, cognitive behavioral therapies, cognitive processing therapy, and
Psychotherapy itself comes in many forms, and is based on many different psychological models. Adlerian therapy on the growth model, Gestalt therapy integrates the body and mind, psychoanalytic therapy focuses on the first six years of life, Reality therapy teaches people to control the world around them, and Rational and Cognitive therapy, deals with the cognitive and moral state of the patient. Any one of these could be chosen as a treatment option, but for the purpose of this paper, I will focus on a form of Humanistic Therapy.
Humanists place great emphasize on the concept of having a whole person being engaged in the process of growth and change. Humanistic therapists were more about promoting growth rather than curing an illness (CrashCourse 2014). This is why they called they called the people they see clients instead of patients. One of the benefits of this type of therapy that changes our willingness to seek therapy and the way we view therapy is a safe environment. Carl Rogers who founded the client-centered therapy believed that this type of therapy would provide a safe environment where clients could accept themselves and feel valued, without the fear of being judged (Zimbardo, Johnson, and McCann, 2014, p.565). Clients are able to work towards self-actualization.
Counseling is a therapy that involves communication using a variety of methods. Verbal, nonverbal, and written are some of the ways to communicate during counseling. Counseling allows a person to share their feelings, thoughts and problems to another (a counselor) in a dependable and confidential environment. Normally the counselor empathizes with the clients. Many types of counseling are evident depending on the type of problem one has. Counseling usually involves the psychology, therefore, can be termed as psychological therapy. One of the psychological therapies is behavioral therapy. Behavioral therapy involves behaviors and cognitions. Apparently, cognitive and behavioral therapies are based on the thinking of the individual and on the way the individuals behave. Cognitive and behavioral therapies are of importance and that is the area of my specialization.
Psychotherapy therapy focuses on the personal and interpersonal issues underlying depression. It explores an individual's life to bring to light possible contributing causes of the present depression. During treatment, the therapist helps the patient to become aware of his or her thinking patterns and how they came to be. There are several different subtypes of psychotherapy, but all have the common goal of helping the individual develop healthy problem solving and coping skills. Two of the most widely used treatment methods are cognitive-behavioral therapy and interpersonal therapy (Hammen 141).
The basic methods of psychotherapy treatment divide into behavioral and cognitive therapy. The first teaches the client how to behave and react in situations that trigger his fear. It works effectively when treating of social phobias and agoraphobias. The most popular kinds are systematic desensitization, flooding and modeling.
Psychotherapy is a long term method of the treatment which recognises the emotional problems and the history and reason to those issues and difficulties.
