Humans have come to accept that History by mere definition is the exploration and study of history whereas the Human Sciences are defined as the in depth study of social, biological and cultural aspects of human beings. History and Human Sciences seek to influence humans through language, reason, and emotion. By looking at the title, I am coming to the conclusion that historians only focus on understanding the past and the human scientist is only looking to change the future. That conclusion is reasonable due to reasoning of the historian or the scientist. They use reasoning to do their job. For example, how someone is raised or their surroundings can affect their perception of the world. If a historian wanted to state that the holocaust never happened because their background sympathizes with the Germans, It can not be considered history unless a historian goes and research and analyze their findings and more than one historian agrees with it. The information that we have today as history would not be considered history, unless an historian took the time and researched it. So the claim that the “historian’s task is to understand the past” is accurate.
The title states by contrast that the human scientists are trying to change the future, when in reality they are also trying to understand the past also. Historians know what they know, but can scientists really rely on what historians state as history. They use their knowledge and the knowledge of historians to try to change the future. Scientists have to understand the past because you can not just rely on what someone says. Everything in the Natural Science has to be researched and tested in order to be accepted as science. No one is going to just follow what another says because perception and emotion can make history or science as bias due to someone’s feelings.
Scientist has to go in the past and understand it and improve the future. However even though scientists need to research the past in order to change the future, it is not
