Good afternoon everyone, my name is Alexus Autry and I am your president and I have been selected to give this speech that will help out not only everyone on this campus but it shall help out everyone in the world that lives in a place that either suffers from high levels of pollution and or other harmful things in the air. While brainstorming what I was going to put into this speech and the 5 most important things that will make this campus sustainable and environmentally friendly, I came up with what I think the 5 most important things are to make our university, the university that we stand before today, environmentally sustainable and friendly. Step one is to stop using disposable items such as, plastic water bottles, plastic forks, knives, …show more content…
One of the most important things as a freshman in college is your dorm room. For girls they are always ways to organize their room for the most space available possible and making it look cute, and for boys its always who has the coolest hang out room, and the most important part in both of those is the furniture that goes along in it. Now given most dorms are already supplied with things like the bed and desk but then there are other things that you have to buy for your dorm room that aren’t supplied such as sheets, towels, etc. an ecofriendly way of taking care of those needs is by buying those necessities locally. Instead of ordering them online and having them shipped to your house which increases our carbon foot print, buy them in a store near you so that there isn’t as much carbon dioxide being released. When going downtown instead of buying a new outfit save that money and ask either your roommate or other friends to borrow clothes for the night, and last but not least sell your old things. Plato’s closet is a newly opened store here in Greenville that is exactly what you are looking for. It is a place that has a lot of used teen clothing and you can go up there and sell them your old clothes and either get the money or exchange them for new
The quizzes raised my overall awareness of my carbon footprint, and brought to my attention the fact that I have a larger negative impact than the average person. To reduce my ecological footprint this semester, there are a couple of things I can do. First, I can start to recycle paper, glass, and plastic. As a college student who spends a lot of time on campus, it is practical to recycle because of the recycling resources that Texas A&M offers. The recycling containers with three stream receptacles are color coordinated and located all over campus, making recycling an easier task. Secondly, I could cut down on the amount of meats that I consume. Cutting out some forms of meat from my diet, especially beef or pork, would help cut out greenhouse gas emissions that are produced from animal agriculture. I am not a huge meat fan, and so this would not pose a problem. Additionally, I have the funds to purchase protein-based vegetarian food items. Lastly, I could walk more or take the bus more frequently. A lot of places are only a 2 to 5 minute drive from my house, and so it would behoove me to walk more. As a college student in a small college town, a lot of buildings and locations are fairly close to each other, and so walking is a realistic
College campuses across the nation have taken action to participate in the Reduce, Recycle and Reuse initiative to help make their campus a better and more environmentally safe. The program encourages recycling in communities, schools and work place. Through this proposal I plan to implement the program “Let’s Go Green” at Savannah State University. This program would challenge the faculty, students and the university itself to implement eco-friendly activities into day to day operations or everyday lives.
The University of New Hampshire has tried to change the mindsets of its students to think and act greener. Oberlin College and Northland College both built green buildings for environmental studies. Middlebury College has an almost entire administration that is dedicated to green, sustainable living. Noel created this list to show that care for the planet should be a factor in a student's college
Ladies, Gentlemen good morning to you all. I am here today to speak to you on behalf of tennis Australia and in essence the rest of the globe in terms of Tennis. My question to you is, why are women denied the chance to perform and exhibit there elite talents their ultimate mettle in 5 sets of tennis like the men’s game. Why fans are denied the pleasure of seeing this is to be questioned? Why aren’t women able to play 5 sets?
Imagine a time where the whole world lives a more sustainable lifestyle. Think about how clean and desirable our planet would then become. Well in order to achieve this, we have to start small, why not at the college level. If I were to run for college president, with a platform for a more sustainable campus, I would make sure to make it a fun and enjoyable environment for students. Some changes and ideas I have for the campus would be adding bike paths, increasing the recycling bins, installing solar panels, planting native plants and trees, and buying food locally.
With the hectic life that each of us lives, it’s no wonder that many families have put aside the importance of making time for family. It’s far too easy to get caught up in life and neglect the ones we love the most. Think about why you created the family in the first place, you wanted to have a happy little home with the sounds of children’s laughter surrounding you. Both you and your spouse desired to create an actual family, maybe one that you didn’t have when you were growing up.
On May 23rd, Dave Payne, Greg Rodgers, and I went to check on the Trailers at OCS.
Good morning baby! I just wanted to give you something cute to wake up to, so here i am. I really hope that this will be able to put a smile on that cute face of yours. You are so unbelievably caring and kind and just flat out amazing. You deserve so much more than what you actually receive but then again, you are so young and you have such an amazing life ahead of you and hopefully, i will be able to see it as well. You just need to keep doing what you love and no matter what happens or whatever it may be, i’ll always be here for you. Not a day that passes by that i don’t feel blessed to have you. This is going to sound corny but i honestly do think that us meeting again may have been fate. I don’t like to think about what happened between us 6 months ago but i don’t want to ignore it because it happened and nothing can change that. But the point is, is that my love grew for you. And it continues to grow. Every single day when i talk to you i feel so complete and i feel like i really found the one. My love grows for you more and more every time that we talk.
For example, each student in my business class needs to collect a minimum of 65 pairs of shoes to reach our class goal of 2,000 pairs for our Soles4Souls project. In the presentation, I really enjoyed the quote by Dr. Seuss stating, “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not!” This quote made me reflect and realize that you really do need to care because if you don’t, nothing will be accomplished. To start making a difference you can start by thinking ecologically about the campuses. Wingate University has lots of green, LEED certified buildings, energy efficient lights, ‘green’ carpet, energy efficient boilers and recycling on campus. The university also has their own bike share program which minimizes driving and makes the environment and people healthier. I thought it was very interesting learning that the Wingate community also has a garden that grew 520 pounds of produce this past summer. Finally, I would love to join Wingate’s BIGG (Bulldogs into Going Green) program which is a sustainability student group that partners with other groups to promote the three aspects of
Legacy: I would like to thank all of my family, friends, teachers, and coaches who have supported me throughout high school. I would like to Kip and Julie Johnson, my parents. Thank you for everything that you have done for me. No matter how hard I was on you guys, you never gave up on me. You always knew that I could do better and constantly encouraged me to do so. I would also like to say a special thanks to my girlfriend Bekka. You have always been there for me since the 9th grade when we started dating. You always helped me with any of my work that I had sturggled with. I appreciate you always telling me that I could do better, even though I was lazy. Thank you for always supporting me, love. I would next like to thank all my friends: Tyler, Hugo, Ed, Casey, Tristan, James,
There is no question that our resources on earth such as water, electricity and plastic are limited. As humans, we have begun to realize that we cannot consume these resources at a high rate because if we do our future generations will be left with nothing. A large part of cutting down on resource consumption is practicing sustainability on college campuses. Colleges and Universities around the country are currently attempting to become more “green” or environmentally sustainable. Nazareth College has already begun to take steps towards sustainability with new L.E.D lights and recycling bins around campus, but the college can definitely take more strides towards becoming a more green campus. Nazareth College could improve on becoming a more sustainable campus by creating an atmosphere where students are more involved, limiting resource use in dorms, academic buildings and the dining hall, and by giving students and faculty more incentive to act in ways that are environment friendly.
On Labor Day, my best friend and I went to visit her other best friend, who is currently a freshman at Swarthmore. She gave us a two hour tour the campus, which initiated my admiration for the college. The Swarthmore environment is auspicious ecologically, academically, and socially. The campus shares my desire to promote green living and gives a massive amount of thought to environmental sustainability. From the arboretum to the amphitheater, to the timed thirty-minute lights in between the shelves of McCabe, I appreciate how Swarthmore provides the greenest ways to go about the college experience.
I payed a freshman to write mine last night, so I hope it turned out really cool.
It’s my turn to close tonight. It’s a Monday night, so no one is here but one man. I usually don’t close, but I’ve been trying to get all the overtime I can get. I begged my boss for weeks to give me some more hours and he finally gave in. I mean I can understand why he had a hard time deciding because I’m not the most experienced bartender here. I would spend time trying to learn more drinks to make, but I have so much homework to do it takes up most of my time. I thought high school was hard, but college is even harder. In high school, I worked at Friendly’s but still managed to have some extra time. I guess now that I have to support myself financially and attend school, it been a little hard on me. Luckily, I have a scholarship and this
This project will mainly discuss the sustainable and unsustainable practices at ADU campus and dorms and we are going to discuss the possible solutions to apply the concepts of sustainability and sum up with recommendations that may be useful tips to be used in the future for the following projects in Abu Dhabi University and other projects in the world.
