Hunger Games Essay If Peeta was never chosen from the reaping would Katniss still have won the games? Was he the reason they became victors, Peeta was the reason Katniss was loved by the people, he made her likable and too, without him she would have lost an ally. Therefor raising the question if Katniss didn’t have Peeta’s presence throughout the games would she just have given up? And too if Peeta wasn’t chosen in the Reaping who else would’ve accompanied Katniss into The Hunger Games and would they have played the same role he did. These are all important questions that come into your thoughts when thinking about this topic. Peeta was Katniss’ saviour in a way, making her extremely likable to the people by creating a love affair between them. Soon after the Reaping Peeta realised that in order to have a lasting chance in the games, he needed the people of Panem to fall in love with him, with them helping Katniss along with him by making a love connection with her. Why are they doing this, why are they fighting, why not just stop and give up? Without Peeta would Katniss have done just that given up? Was he her will, what drove her, giving her the passion to win? Within the games Katniss gave her word to Prim that she would win for her and that’s what drove her, that and the will to see Gale and her mother again. But times when things were going horribly wrong for example when Rue passed away, even the thought of getting back to her family wasn’t enough. The thing that gave her hope was Peter. He was there for her in the arena, not a thought, not a memory a real living person to keep her going, like an emotional support. Without him Katniss would have not survived, he was one of the only things keeping her sane. Which then brings up the question, who if Peeta wasn’t chosen would have been picked from the reaping, and would they have had the same effect on Katniss as Peeta
Another important idea that Katniss makes the audience think of is Love. She helps the audience see this because the main driving point of the novel is Katniss’s love for Prim. This is the reason she volunteered for her at the reaping and why she is in the Hunger Games in the first place. This love is shown when she buys Prim her goat, “She (Prim) was so excited she started crying and laughing all at once.” This tells us that Katniss was willing to spend her money on a goat for Prim that she could’ve spent on something else that would’ve given them better prospects or saved the money. Instead, she chose to give her sister something that she could look after, love and give her lasting memories of fun and happiness. Katniss also shows love for Peeta when she nurses him back to health in the cave. Even when she thought that their love was fictional she still fought to get to him and helped save his life when he was
The boy tribute that is from her district is Peeta Mellark who she knew from long ago. Peeta confessed to the public that he loves her and that begins their friendship. Throughout the games, she watches as tributes are killed and a young girl named Rue is murdered. When this happens, Katniss kills Rue’s attacker. This is the first time that she has ever killed a person, so she takes it very hard. Rue was not only Katniss’s ally but her friend, she was Prim’s age and reminded her of her sister. So, when Rue was killed it struck Katniss deeply. By the end of the games she has come to love Peeta back and it comes down to the two of them. They refuse to kill each other, so they decided to eat berries that are poisonous but the capitol has to have a victor, so the capitol announces that they are both victors. When she did this, it was a direct punch to the capitol and it ignited a spark in the people, that began the process of a revolution. After she returns home, she realizes what her actions caused and that is the real reason that she went there. She was destined to be the Mockingjay, or the leader of the revolution against the capitol. She realizes that she is the only way that the people will unite and fight to
On page 135 the book had said that “It was my Idea. Says Peeta. Haymitch just helped. You made me look weak. Said Katniss. He made you look desirable. Said Haymitch”. This goes to show that when Peeta said that he had like Katniss he had just said that to turn the tables and hope to get more sponsors. This is a good example to think that Peeta was just playing the audience.
Both Peeta and Gale are vital to the survival of Katniss and her family, creating a dilemma for her character when she has to choose between them.
Katniss and Peeta were able to kill Cato. Katniss and Peeta encountered Cato on the Cornucopia as they escaped from the muttations. “Cato has made a beeline for the Cornucopia, and without question I follow him. If he thinks it’s the safest place, who am I to argue? ” (Collins 327). Katniss shot an arrow in which Peeta was able to push Cato off of the Cornucopia even though Peeta was bleeding from his leg, which resulted in Cato being attacked by Muttations. Katniss and Peeta are not able to kill each other. The death of Cato leads Katniss and Peeta to kill each other, however because they can not do so, they choose a double suicide in which they end up as the victors of the Hunger Games. “We both know they have to have a victor. Yes, they have to have a victor. Without a victor, the whole thing would blow up in the Gamemakers’ faces. They’d have failed the Capitol. Might possibly even be executed, slowly and painfully while the cameras broadcast it to every screen in the country. If Peeta and I were both to die, or they thought we were…” (Collins 339). As they were both about to die they heard “the frantic voice of Claudius Templesmith shouts above them. “Stop! Stop! Ladies and gentlemen, I am pleased to present the victors of the Seventy-fourth Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark! I give you — the tributes of District Twelve!” (Collins 340). Collins showed that Katniss and Peeta were willing to kill themselves as opposed to killing each
Katniss does not want Peeta to die. Since the beginning, Peeta has done nothing but help Katniss out and she now realizes every that he has truly done to help her. As we know, Katniss always feels the need to repay what others do for her, and this is one reason that she takes such good care of Peeta. The rule change also made Katniss realize that she has to stop worrying about killing Peeta and could now side with him. Since Katniss only wants to kill those who are a necessity, Peeta is not one of them. These two things are genuine about Peeta and Katniss’s relationship. The whole star crossed lover ordeal is for the most part staged. They both know it will be easier to win the crowd over and survive if they have a romantic thing. Being in
In the beginning, Katniss is living the hard life of her district. She goes to school and hunts so that her family has food. She has a younger sister named Prim and a mother, however it is time for the reaping which is when the Capitol picks names out of a bucket for one boy and one girl from each of the 12 districts to participate in the Hunger Games, a fight to the death tournament where the winner gets fame and fortune. Prim gets chosen to participate in the games, but Katniss volunteers to take her place(22). A boy from their district named Peeta also gets chosen and Katniss realizes that he had given her bread when she didn’t have food for her family. They go to the Capitol and meet their mentor, Haymitch(56), who helps them train, then they go into the arena and battle. Peeta joins up with some Careers, children that trained for the Hunger Games all their lives, and tries to win but then he betrays them. The Gamemakers make a rule change and say that two tributes from the same district can win together so Katniss finds Peeta and helps him because he has been injured. After they are the only two people left the Gamemakers change the rule back to force Katniss and Peeta to fight each other, rather than fight, Katniss takes some poisonous berries, called Nightlock, she found in the arena and gives half of
He has helped to Katniss can avoid the hungry by gave a burnt bread to Katniss and pretend like a gift from the heaven. Afterward, in The Hunger Games, the author used the relationship between Katniss and Peeta to explain how the nature of human connection and the role of love from person to person could make people to survival and stronger.
Katniss Everdeen was the girl tribute from district 12, and they boy tribute was Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson). Katniss sort of knew Peeta before the games, but she wasn’t exactly sure because she could never really pen point where she meet him. Come to find out Peeta basically saved her from starvation because he gave her bread from his bakery, after he burnt it on purpose. Once Peeta and Katniss reached the Capitol and came out to show all the people of the Capitol who they were, they were the ones to watch out for. Katniss was known as the girl on fire, and then Peeta surprised everyone when he told the people of the Capitol that he was in love with Katniss; which then labeled both of them as the star crossed lovers of district 12.
Throughout The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, Peeta Mellark endures a dramatic change and grows into a much more dominant person. Katniss is up in a tree when she realizes that the tributes (other people in the games) are coming her way to kill a competitor within her area, and she sees that unexpectedly Peeta is with them. Katniss tells her readers "An argument breaks out until one tribute silences the others. 'I'll go finish her and let's move on!' I almost fall out of the tree. The voice belongs to Peeta," (Collins 160). If gender is just an imitation of an ideal, at that time Peeta really proved that stereotypes are true by being the alfa male of the group. So Peeta definitely proved that in the end he
During the game Katniss have to pretend that she loves Peeta, but inside she knows that her real love was Gale and that he was waiting for her. It was hard for all of them because Gale was outside seeing how Peeta kiss his girlfriend, and for Peeta because he knows that Katniss was in love with another boy and not of him, and to Katniss because maybe she was with Gale, but passing time with Peeta and look how he tries to saved her life make her get confused about her feelings so she focused in what is good for her, and not of what she real want.
The settings of these two books are different, because The Hunger Games mainly takes place in the arena, and “The Lottery” takes place in a public town spot. In “The Lottery”, there's really no romance, but in The Hunger Games, Katniss and Peeta are shown to the world as a couple. I think is actually a good tactic when trying to get sponsors and surviving because Peeta does protect Katniss and I believe he really does have feelings for her, as she does for him. Katniss is confused about her feelings for Gale, I think that she probably does care for Gale, but personally I think she cares for Peeta more. Otherwise why would she have risked her life for for him? Like when each district got a pack, and she ended up giving Peeta the sleeping syrup so she could go get the pack so Peeta could survive.
In the novel, The Hunger Games, written by Suzanne Collins, the reasons for Katniss and Peeta's winning the Game was all thanks to the help of their team. Their team has helped them, Katniss and Peeta, by training them at their sessions, helping them get their sponsors, and keeping them alive while being in the Game.
Katniss has an edge over many of the other tributes because she often lives not knowing if she is going to make it through the night. For years she has been responsible for the life or death of her family. She was devastated by the death of her father, though she recalls many of his fine talents and qualities. Throughout the training and the Games, she fights against feeling friendship for Peeta Mellark because she knows
While competing in the Hunger Games, Katniss is unsure if Peeta is on her side or not because he betrays her and joins the Careers; plotting to team up and kill the weak. This make Katniss extremely confused, causing her to be uncertain of whether or not she will be able to kill Peeta since he is her supposed star-crossed lover. She also debates with herself because she cannot decide if she is in love with Gale or Peeta. During the Hunger Games, Katniss becomes friends with Rue through the mocking jay pin. Rue is killed, but Katniss remembers her by using the wisdom that she learned from Rue.
