There are multiple movies about teenagers in a dystopian society. The Hunger Games series and The Maze Runner series have similar aspects to each other, but are differed in plot. In the movies the main character is a strong and powerful teen who is daring and contributes plenty. In contrast to that, they don’t share the same experiences or lifestyles making them have distinct qualities of their own. There are other aspects that could also be compared or contrasted between the two, like their atmospheres or their societies. The dystopian societies put the children and teens into situations that are cruel and tragic. The Hunger Games is centered around a community that remembers a past war by forcing teens to kill one another in what the call the Hunger Games. The entire society watches on a television and rout for their favorite tribute. In the games Katniss, the main character, has to rely on a bow and arrow to survive along with other supplies she is able to gather. Throughout the movie she also allies herself a couple of other characters, but she is mostly thinking of how she will survive. With the …show more content…
When the main character Thomas arrived in the maze some of the boys have been there for years, but they all worked together. They make a small community that has different jobs for every member so they can help each other. The group of teens have no memories or remembrance of life outside of the maze, yet they still have hope they will find a way out and survive. When Tomas disrupts the balance of their community the leaders of the different jobs hold a meeting and talk about what they should do next to prevent further loss of lives. This is to prevent conflict in the future instead of resorting to violence. As The Maze Runner displays a group effort to overcome the obstacle of the maze, it also shows the differences in The hunger games way of fighting to the
In The Maze Runner they fight themselves. The Maze Runner characters question their past and why they are there. This shows that just like in Anthem, characters are uncertain with their beliefs. Thomas (main character) is shipped into living and trying to find out why as he progresses. In similar fashion the government plays a huge part.
The hunger games also are based in a futuristic society as applies to the book the Fahrenheit 451. The setting in the novel is one of complete disarray in the order of the society as is the case in the novel the Fahrenheit 451. The Hunger Games is a dystopian novel, but its content is far more political than any other novels written in the twenty-first century. The novel revolves around a young female teenager who is engaged in a young triangle with other two young men. The young men are Peeta Mellark and her best friend, Gale. The main idea, however, is the task that the young teenager, who happens to be the main character is faced with. Katniss Everdeen as is the name of the girl, is faced with the task of uniting her Falk in an uprising against the cruel system of administration which happens to be taking advantage of the other population (Dubrofsky
The first similarity for these two books is there is a love story of some sort or the other.Which directly leads to the difference of the main characters in The Hunger Games the main character is a girl firstly and secondly the main character named Katniss Everdeen played by actor Jennifer Lawerence is in “love” with two people named Peeta and Gale.In The Maze Runner the main character named Thomas played by Dylan O’Brien is only in love with one character named Teresa.Another difference between the two books is in The Hunger Games the goverment controls the people in difference to The Maze Runner where scientist control the people.
The movie Pan’s Labyrinth by Guillermo del Toro shares similar dystopian themes with Suzanne Collins’s book The Hunger Games through the collective use of the power struggle trope. Sub-themes of risk-taking and disobedience, struggle for control of resources, and lack of mercy by powerful leaders make up the conflicts between protagonists and antagonists in both works. These commonalities between the two works point towards a utopia that can be described as a society where people are in control of their own lives, and in which there would be no need for risk-taking or disobedience.
One the books that is going to be compared is The Hunger Games which was written in 2008 by Suzanne Collins. This book starts of as the annual reaping in every district where males and females from the ages 12-18 are chosen to battle for their life with the other tributes from different districts. Katniss, the main character volunteered to save her sister from being the chosen tribute. Peeta was the male tribute chosen, both of them are from District 12. There are 12 district competing, 24 tributes, in which 23 will be dead and one will win to honour their district is how it always turns out.
After watching the movie and reading the book “The Hunger Games”,there is many similarities. There is also similarities
While reading a book and then watching the movie of that book, I always tend to look for the differences and similarities of the book and movie. In The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, there are so many more differences between the two then there are similarities. Some things are just harder to capture in a movie than in a book. Books just always seem to be better….
Both “The Hunger Games” book and movie were very amazing and interesting with a lot of imagery details and descriptions. They also gave several examples of conflicts, such as man vs. man, man vs. society, man vs. technology, man vs. self, and man vs.nature. While they share so many wonderful aspects, they also have plentiful differences and similarities. Similarities between the film and the novel of “The Hunger Games”, vary in many kinds of ways. Such as in the characters, settings, actions, and descriptions.
This comparison is what sets the two films apart; the hunger games are a mirror image of the gladiatorial games of ancient Rome. This comparison is what makes this film authentic; Roman culture thrived off of horrendous games that glorified the power struggle between the flamboyant upper capital class, and the working class. Or if put in today’s terms would compare to reality shows that capitalize on the misfortune or deceitfulness of others, such as the long running megahit CBS series Survivor. This dehumanization of people within society is a play on of our society. However, it is obviously an exaggeration of our inequalities America faces today.
The Hunger Games, A book series by Suzanne Collins, differs in few ways from Veronica Roth’s Divergent. The Hunger Games lead role, Katniss Everdeen, lives in a world of few choices. The government controls the lives of everybody in the 12 districts. When Katniss’ little sister, Primrose, is chosen to fight in the annual Hunger Games, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She is forced to fight and forced to kill, all to survive. This competition results in the people fearing not only their government, but also their futures. Katniss becomes a symbol of rebellion against the
In the book Divergent by Veronica Roth a young girl named Tris who decides her fate against her parents will. As the cities around her turn to war Tris must stick by her friends and do what is right. Similar yet different, in the book The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins a young girl named Katniss takes the place of her sister in an annual war between 11 other districts. Katniss must choose between her well being and the wellbeing of the people she loves. In this essay readers learn how both books express similarities and differences in the theme, the setting, as well as the usage and meaning of symbolism.
One example is is the main character from each book, Ralph (Lord of the Flies), and Thomas (Maze Runner). They both share the same traits: bold, ambitious, brave, and makes a good leader. In both books, the main protagonist strives towards a goal, and undergoes missions and challenges to reach it. In the Maze Runner, the aim is to escape a lethal maze. In the lord of the flies, the aim is to escape an isolated jungle island.
The Hunger Games has two vision: The book, and movie. They are differences and similarities. These can change the meaning of the story.
Thomas started from a person who was scared, confused, and curious, into the one who led them out of the maze and one of the most important Gladers. On the other hand, Tris was a quiet Abnegation girl who was struggling to fit into Dauntless. Eventually though she became one of the bravest people in the story, fending off multiple Dauntless soldiers and stopping the Erudite. There were also, quite obviously, going through very different situations. While, Tris had to fight her way to the top ten, hide her Divergence, and save an entire faction, Thomas was trying to figure out what his flashbacks meant, how he could get out of the maze, and why he had so much responsibility. Based on all of this information, I believe that dystopian fiction really seems to focus on themes of sacrifice, friendship, and most important of all, overthrowing “the system”. For example, another dystopian fiction novel that has all three of these themes is The Hunger Games. In the Hunger Games, Katniss, the protagonist, risks her life for her sister’s wellbeing, makes alliances with other tributes and rebels, and attempts to overthrow the Capitol. The main plot point of Divergent was to stop the Erudite, the most power-hungry of all five factions. Finally, Thomas stops WICKED, a group of scientists that experimented on the Gladers. During all three of these dystopian fiction novels the protagonists and their friends
The Hunger Games, directed by Gary Ross, and Maze Runner, directed by Wes Ball, are films with similar themes such as heroism, dystopian world and sacrifice. Both films involve killing of innocent lives by authorities in charge as a mean to find peace. The Maze Runner is about finding a cure of civilisation whilst the The Hunger Games uses the competitions in order to control the population and prevent an uprising. Katniss in the film is a 16 year old girl who volunteers as a tribute in the competition. Thomas is also a 16 year old Glader who was forced to be inside the maze by the Creators. The themes and filming techniques used by Gary Ross and Wes Ball in both in their will be compared in order to see the similarities. There are two
