Climate Change and the Occurrence of Hurricanes
The biggest threat to human existence is climate change. Ironically, changes in climate largely stem from human activities. Since the time of Agrarian revolution, humans have continued to clear large chunks of land for agriculture. In addition, the dawn of industrialization saw the adoption of large scale ways of production. In all these cases, the impact of human activity on the environment has increased. Through industrialization, for instance, carbon emissions into the atmosphere in increased. On the other hand, by clearing natural vegetation for human activities, such as agriculture and settlements, the natural cycles of gases are interfered with. In all these cases, the long term effect is climate change. The impact of climate change on human life has

Other than that, the melting of polar ice also leads to rising sea levels. It is reported that temperature of oceans have increased by a margin of three degree Fahrenheit. Coupled with other factors such as intensive storms stemming from the elevated temperatures, the level of oceans has also been rising. In fact, it was reported that the rise has been about seven inches over the past century.
Although the occurrence and formation of hurricanes is not a result of the global warming, the effects of climate change make the impact worse. For instance, the rise in ocean levels implies that the force by which hurricanes land increases. In addition, the speed at which hurricanes land are increased due to the elevated sea levels and the occurrence of storms in the ocean. In fact, recent cases such as the occurrence of Hurricane Harvey, as well as Irma, were made worse through climate
Natural disasters occurring from the climate change could be on the rise. Global warming has been rumored to be causing more hurricanes, typhoons, cyclones, heavier monsoonal rains that cause major flooding, mud slides, and other disasters worldwide. A tropical cyclone, also referred to as hurricanes, typhoons, or cyclones, depending on where in the world the cyclone is occurring, are one of the world’s grandest shows of energy provided by nature. Hurricanes are large, swirling, low pressure storms that have sustained winds of over 74 miles an hour and are formed over warm ocean waters (NASA, n.d.). The purpose of this paper is to discuss hurricanes
Greshko explains that this hurricane season has been so active because atmospheric conditions and surface seas temperatures have been warmer than normal. There have been other major hurricanes to make landfall on the continental US over the years but this season has still been unusual with two category 4 storms hitting land in a small space of time. It seems as though the longer it goes, the more severe it gets. Finally, Greshko concludes this article by talking about the cause of this catastrophic hurricane season being climate change. The climate plays a big role in weather and the warmer conditions will make for much worse tropical storms in the Atlantic. In the future individual will drop more precipitation in the future, since warmer air can hold more water vapor. The warmer temperatures are a result of human activity an if the climate continues to warm up then its predicted that storm surges will become much worse.
The South was a complete mess after the Civil War. The early part of the 20th century brought many changes for African Americans. There was a difficult challenge of helping newly free African American slaves assimilate among their white counterparts. They suffered from crop failures, economic hardships, and the early failures of Reconstruction in the south. So as result many Southern African Americans migrated to northern cities in search of employment and a chance at a better life. However, Southern African Americans migrating to northern cities quickly discovered that they were not able to enjoy the same social and economic mobility experienced by their European immigrant counterparts arriving around the same time. There were many
Since it was first discovered and translated, Beowulf has represented one of the finest examples of heroic poetry. As a tale reflecting the noble deeds of a hero, it uniquely expresses the cultural values of the Anglo-Saxons from whom it originated since heroes often do reflect the best of what their culture deems worthwhile. However, modern adaptations of this work express a different set of cultural values; values unique to modern society. When comparing the translated poem, Beowulf, to the 2005 motion picture, Beowulf and Grendel, it is obvious to see that our morals and ideas are reflected on this ancient poem. The movie, Beowulf and Grendel, and the epic, Beowulf, are prime examples of the radical cultural differences that have evolved over time.
The superstorm sandy reminded New York that it is not protected from the climate change and flooding. That Sandy cause disasters and the subways were flooded. Climate change is threating earth. The world is in danger because of the global warming which will result in many superstorms and flooding. Opposing views claim that hurricane harvey wasn’t because of climate change.
Hurricane Cosme can be traced to a tropical wave that formed on the west coast of Africa on or around June 8. That westward moving wave, which was also responsible for the formation of Tropical Storm Barry in the Caribbean Sea, eventually reached the Eastern Pacific Ocean. The progress of the wave was slowed by a southwesterly movement within the Intertropical Convergence Zone.[10] During the morning hours of June 20, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) began monitoring a broad area of disturbed weather several hundred miles southeast of Acapulco, Mexico.[11] Assessed with a low chance of tropical cyclone formation within a two-day interval, conditions at the time were unfavorable but expected to become more conducive for development over subsequent
Debates over the impact of global warming on weather patterns around the globe have been the source of intense scrutiny in recent years. One such debate that has seen increased attention in the scientific community is: What impact does global warming have on hurricane frequency and intensity? Since the especially intense hurricane season in 2005 that spawned the devastating storms of “Katrina” and “Rita” this question has spawned a lot of media attention as well. However before we can even begin to answer the question posed by the title of the paper we must first explore; What is a hurricane? How it is formed? And we must also examine what is meant by the term global warming?
The respective career path I have chosen to take on and pursue is nursing. The profession and practice of nursing is an aspect of the medical field I have always had a keen interest in, as working amongst a team of other healthcare professionals to give patient-centred care is something I can see myself doing in the future. Prior to choosing nursing as my career path, the research I did about the profession stated that nurses are advocates for those in need. I interpreted that personally as, nurses are the voice of those who are ill and inadequate therefore, they protect the rights of their patients through extensive knowledge about the field. Being the support to a patient and their family in a difficult time reflects my values of wanting
Climate change has progressively become more problematic for coastal societies in recent history as a result of elevated greenhouse gas emission levels across the planet. Increases in sea level and sea surface temperature, as well as atmospheric pressure accretion, are unnatural effects directly linked to increased carbon dioxide (CO2) release into the atmosphere. Some of the sources of these increases have come from the greater use of coal and gasoline for industrial and transportation purposes. Hurricanes (tropical cyclones), most common in the North Atlantic region, have intensified due to this “global warming”. But occurrences of such events are predicted to diminish (Emanuel, 2011). Hurricanes are expected to form less frequently in the North Atlantic, but they will become more intense and powerful over time. As high intensity hurricanes become more common events along the densely populated eastern coast of the United States, more resilient engineering solutions will need to be implemented by current generations to reduce their destructive impact.
Global warming is one of the biggies topic issues in our society today, with that being said there are many misconceptions or misunderstandings of what global warming will to affect our worlds climates. Throughout this paper I plan to inform you of what Global Warming is, how Climates work to form severe weather systems that produce Hurricanes and what global warming will do to affect how hurricanes form and act. With severe weather systems such as Hurricanes, Tornadoes and typhoons, global warming will have a serious impact on millions of people across the globe, who are at risk of these violent acts of nature, and global warming will only make these events worse.
Scientists are not sure that climate change directly affects the extremity of weather, but it is clear it helps the impacts. Andrew Freedman is a senior science writer for Climate Central, an independent research organization. He studies climate change. Hurricane Sandy clashed with the east coast in 2012. Three factors that could have effected it: sea level rise, non regular warm sea surface temperatures, and unusual weather pattern. Natural causes still predominately are main forces for situations like these. Global warming has increased the severity. Hurricane Sandy starts questions about Climate change impacting storms and weather patterns, and how vulnerable the east coast is. This is credible because it was written by an independent research
Hurricanes are one of nature’s most natural occurrences and intense phenomenal storms. Yet, as phenomenal as they are, they are still one of the deadliest and disastrous natural occurrences that continue to plague costal residents with fears of their homes being destroyed, their towns wiped out, and loved ones either disappearing or dying.
In the past few decades, climate change has widely diffused and been taken into concern by many countries. It is a long term alteration in the Earth’s climate, especially a change due to an increase in the atmospheric temperature known as global warming. Nowadays, not only does this phenomenon put our lives in jeopardy but also leads to natural disasters such as the hurricane Harvey in the United States occurred in August of this year. The damage that the American have been suffering is a wake up call for all about the cause of the hurricane and what made it become one of the deadliest catastrophes.
Recent events such as four extremely powerful hurricanes (Irma, Katia, Harvey, Jose) have destroyed several regions of the United States and countries by the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico from the months August to September. How did global warming factor in the extent of damage done by the tropical cyclones? Therefore, the increasing temperature is causing hurricanes to hold more water, rain heavier, and have more water to hold from the rising sea levels. Consequently, this will increase the amount of damage. This change in the hurricanes has such a huge negative impact on civilizations like frequent and heavier floods, rainstorms, home and other buildings destroyed, and increasing death tolls. In addition, I believe this article answers my question by stating the aspects of hurricanes that climate change affects. It is inconceivable to
According to scientific research, the average temperature of the earth has risen by between ten and twenty degrees Celsius (M.L. Weitzman, 2008). These high temperatures could well be described as a ‘recipe for disaster’, and could produce results that would be catastrophic on a global scale. What is more alarming however, is that there is already a lot of evidence of predicted results of climate change, for instance, in Australia especially, severe draughts have been common in farming areas in the last few decades, there has been an increase of intense and extreme weather events, for example floods, flash floods, tsunamis, earthquakes and tornados, almost all of the natural disasters listed have occurred for ‘unknown’ reasons in the past few years. Rises in sea water level and temperature due to higher acid levels caused by global warming, threaten the existence of species and in some areas, entire eco-systems resulting in the loss of natural biodiversity. ‘Climate change is pushing the world to the verge of environmental and economic collapse, whether global deniers want to believe it or not’ (N. Klein, 2011).
