Since August 28th, 2017 hurricanes have come one after the other to the United States. Hurricane Harvey hit Houston, and Hurricane Irma has slapped the Caribbean Islands like you would slap an annoying fly. It also hit Florida but not as bad. Most recently, Hurricane Maria has hit the Caribbean again. At least 70 people died so far because they either didn’t evacuate in time or chose to stay to ride out the storm. If people evacuated like they were warned the death toll would be smaller or no toll at all. Hurricane Katrina in 2005 killed 1,833 people most likely because many did not evacuate like they were told. When authorities issue an evacuation order, follow it and get out of the area as soon as possible or right away. Some seem to think that they can stay because they adore their home and won’t leave it. But others do leave for their own good. Most times people can’t get out in time because financially, it would be catastrophic. Some can’t leave their jobs on short notice because they’re possibly not very wealthy and can’t afford to do that. The sooner you get out, the sooner you don’t have to worry about your life being at stake. Prepare your home for high winds and flooding before you leave. Also bring a few days of an amount of food and water with you, in case you can’t get completely out before the hurricane arrives. …show more content…
There would also be dead bodies of people who either drowned or didn’t escape in
Hurricane Andrew, some may say it was the worst hurricane ever to make landfall on US soil. In my research I have found that andrew was the worst for the 90’s time period. In the 90’s the people had very poor storm shelters for such a horrific storm a lot of people died because of this.
Recommendations: If a hurricane happens near you, you should stay indoors and away from any doors or windows. Listen the TV or radio for instructions and to be told when the storm has passed. Close all interior doors. Try to stay on the bottom floor in a small room or a closet. Go under a table or some other sturdy object.
According to dosomething.org around 1,836 people died from Hurricane Katrina. From the research I did I think we should evacuate Gavelston because my research says that Rita will be a Category 5 hurricane and so was Katrina and she killed that many people. Other hurricanes have also created much damage in the past and we don’t want people getting stuck and hurt from this. Although people think that isn’t that bad and we can stay in our homes I think we should evacuate.
Vicious hurricanes tear communities down to their foundations, leaving victims with a huge responsibility to reconstruct and dispose of the deceased. But not just in stories like Their Eyes Were Watching God, but in reality.
There had been many hurricanes that have occurred in the United States but, Hurricane Katrina was one of the deadliest hurricanes to ever hit. During this hurricane approximately 1,833 people died, due to flooding. Levees led to a heavy flooding, numerous people had been charged by the federal government. More than 1 million of them were homeless along
their lives in Hurricane Katrina. Also about 1,500 lost their in Louisiana. Also 230 lost their lives in Mississippi. That’s one reason how Hurricane Katrina was dangerous to the U.S.
Firstly, approximately 1,300 people died in New Orleans during hurricane Katrina on August 29, 2005. It is considered one of the most deadly and embarrassing events in American history due to the amount of destruction of the hurricane, the insufficient planning before and after
I personally have not experienced a disaster. However, I have heard about a lot of megadealths from the media. The most recent is Hurricane Matthew. Hurricane Matthew affected the Caribbean, Florida and North Carolina. It is known that hundreds of people have died and over one thousand people remain without houses and clean water in Haiti, four people have died and one million people lost power in Florida and seven people have died, about 760,000 people still remain without power and over 880 people had to be rescued in North Carolina. I am sadden by the destruction that this hurricane has caused. I have a lot of friends in Florida and a lot of family in North Carolina all whom are safe. It took a couple of days to ensure everyone was safe.
Cuba lies entirely within the tropics and, as already noted, there are rainy and dry seasons. The most important weather consideration in Cuba is that the island lies directly in the path of topical hurricanes as well as less severe tropical storms, many of which have devastated the island; hurricanes are most likely to affect Cuba in September and October. The hurricane of November 9, 1932, known locally as the 1932 Camagüey Hurricane was probably the most devastating of all, resulting in the loss of over 3,000 lives, though the actual death toll was almost certainly higher given the primitive communications available in Cuba at that time (Cuba Hurricanes.org, 2008). This was the greatest natural disaster ever to befall the island, with the town of Santa Cruz del Sur being utterly devastated with the known loss of 2,870
Hurricanes are one of the hardest natural disasters to recover from. Hurricane Maria that happened in Puerto Rico is a prime example of how much of a struggle it is to get through a hurricane. The reason behind the hurricane is global warming. Since the event happened there have been many people who are being pushed out of their homes because of the economic crisis. Jobs were hard to come by even before the hurricane but became worse because of it. Another problem that is arising is that since people are leaving in large numbers the debt that Puerto Rico has will now become harder to repay. Not only are natural disasters the main reason why people are migrating but climate change in general. Migration is starting to become a customary thing
Each year, hurricanes pose immense threats to life and property along Eastern United States and the Gulf of Mexico. In 2005, Hurricane Katrina was responsible for killing over 1800 innocent civilians and causing an estimated 125 billion in property damage (A-1). While there is nothing that can be done to prevent hurricanes, there are many steps that can be taken to protect yourself.
Cuba's susceptible natural hazard consists of hurricanes. Although, hurricanes are the main natural hazard Cuba suffers with, it later consist with droughts and fires. Hurricanes, cause numerous problems for Cuba. Strong rains and winds are problematic, as they cause numerous issues. After severe storms, landslides occur as well as coastal floods. While these natural disasters can't be contained, the community of Cuba really suffers. After, these natural disasters occur, communities are damaged.
Safety plays a big role in hurricanes. I want our town to be safe so I chose to evacuate the city. What I know right now is that hurricane Katrina was a Category 2 hurricane and was very destructive. Some might say that there would be some survivors. I think that there will be the majority of the population that will survive if we leave. Since Katrina was a Category 3 and Rita is a Category 5 we should leave and we will be safer that way money is also a factor
The problem in the Puerto Rico, at least the south, is that industries are located in the coast. Back in the days, they used the Caribbean as a disposal source for all the hazardous waste. Many of our south beaches are still contaminated from these old events during the industrialization era. The bad thing was that Hurricanes were also dispersing all the contaminants all over the place. The Metro area in San Juan has a lot of businesses, and man-made building. Yes a lot of flooding happens during hurricanes but is not because the sea is rising, is because of the mountains and water running down the watersheds. Thanks for your
In today’s world, there has been one disaster or another, and hurricanes are one of those disasters that always happens. But, for one reason or another we are never prepared or understand the danger of any type of hurricane over a category one. Most of us have been through many hurricanes, like this learner who has lived in Miami, Fla. for over 30 years, and experienced her last hurricane which was Hurricane Andrew. Warnings are always given, first responders are trained to all ways be on alert, and FEMA is supposed to be ready to jump in once the storm has done its damage. But we can never be prepared, because hurricanes are unpredictable, and can become deadly for citizens and create millions of dollars in damages. Within this post we will discuss Hurricane Katrina, preparedness and Emergency management before and after the disaster.
