The Culture of the Youth changes like the glass bottle that breaks into pieces with a loud noise that spreads in split seconds. Even in that moment, the response at the momentous move by the emotions determined by feelings. From the textbook “Hurt 2.0”, Clark describes today’s teen as abandoned. They are “hurt” and living in the world of pain. They basically live in a world “beneath” the world of adults. They have a completely different set of survival skills than what their parents or grandparents experienced. The difference between the two generations cannot be always understandable toward each other, since the culture changes like every second and the borderline that separates the teen world from the adult world is getting deeper. Every room has the different sets of the setting. The adults tend to change their children like what they want to be. We need to emphasize the fact that they are the true source to our future. When the water dries up in the land, and the moon will eventually stop so are the stars, and the world might become dark, they could become the light that fills up the empty spots “We need to recognize that young people are the most precious and fragile resources of our society.”(p.88) They are the future of our next generations that could change the world; if we do not recognize them it would become a beach without a shore. As an adult, we tend to forget that we were also adolescents, maybe parents are trying to achieve through their children, what they wanted to do when they were adolescents but they failed to do so because of their parents. Competitions that adults have created have given pressure to Today’s adolescents. Order to unlock their potential find who they are, they need a room to fit in. “pressuring their children, emphasizing external measures of success, being overly critical,
Parents now days believe teens are misbehaving and not listening more so than teens in years past. However, kids in years past had more control and authority of their own life’s unlike today’s kids who have to rely on their parents. Adults now days have complete authority over teens unlike teens in years past. Teens back in the day were able to find work at an early age and could choose whether or not they wanted to attend school. With that being said, today’s teenager’s growth to adulthood is being prolonged due to society’s changes. Coontz states, “relations between adults and teens are especially strained today, not because youths have lost their childhood, but because they are not being adequately prepared for the new requirements of adulthood.” (McIntyre, 2014, p. 8) Therefore, society’s sociological and historical changes are the real reason for adult and teen
“In our media-intensive culture it is not difficult to find differing opinions… The difficulty lies in deciding which opinion to agree with and which ‘experts’ seem the most credible” (Espejo 11). The perceptions of one age group in society of another age group are built upon assumptions that are made through what is visible. However, rarely is anyone willing to understand the reason behind someone’s actions. Sibling rivalry, the death of a loved one, moving to a new school, competition among peers, and the reputation adolescents have today often end up giving a misperception of society to teens and of teens to society, thus damaging the relationships between society, as illustrated by J.D. Salinger in The Catcher in the Rye.
Teenagers, as stubborn as some may be, are heavily influenced by their role models, especially in regards to how they perceive the future, and the
As we age, our lives are divided into stages with inescapable hardships. The most difficult of these stages has proven to be adolescence and young adulthood, the years in which our personalities are defined. This juncture is the pinnacle of maturation, however, it is gradually becoming a plateau wherein inactivity is most prevalent. It is indisputable that American children and young adults alike are lingering in their youth for far too long. Many in their teens and twenties are holding tight to the freedom of childhood by depending on their parents, refusing to settle down, and avoiding responsibility. Through their lack of independence, inability to commit and their indolence, certain action must be taken against adolescents
For those of us that are parents, we know that raising a child to adulthood is not an easy task but one which we do lovingly (hopefully) and responsibly. I’ll go out on a limb to say here that everyone agrees that the teenage years are the most challenging. The general consensus is that teenagers are unruly, aggressive, careless, spoiled and dependent on technology. On the other hand, I believe along with a small group of other parents that teenagers are also brilliant and in the process of becoming and reaching their potential and that they deserve much more respect than what they are given.
Teenagers are more than capable of achieving great tasks in the future as well as causing great destruction with every skill stapled in their mind as they grow. Good and evil will determine the effects of which path a young mind its taught so that’s why parents must educated well with good intensions for a better future. The age of a teenager shows history how it transformed the world including the United States by family values, the high school, and dangerous adolescences etc. What teenagers did was start a fashion changing the world and its rules, becoming rebellious toward their parents values for
There is such an enormous responsibility that our youth have and are more that capable of achieving. There is something that I believe is hindering today’s youth as a hole. I envision our youth being their full and true individual self and not conforming to what people around them want or what they believe is right. I feel that is a huge challenge that our youth as a whole are struggling with in this day and age.
From the time they are little, youths are being trained for adulthood whether they realize it or not. They must get used to the ways of the world if they are to survive in it. Perhaps the most tragic is the attempt to escape. Eady describes the children as fighting what is expected of them by “reach[ing] in self-defense” for a way to express themselves(27). They try to hide behind the wigs, lipstick, and sequins of a life they can only dream of.
Teenagers are still growing and learning. Sometimes we forget that they are making choices that can affect their whole life. Yes, we are here to teach them and to guide them in making decisions that will help shape their future. Are they going to make mistakes? Are they going to regret some of their choices? Are they going to wish that they had listened to their parents at times that they didn’t? I’m pretty sure that we made mistakes as teenagers and decisions that we wish we could change. I know that some made worse choices than others but, we have all made poor choices at one time or another even as adults. I definitely feel that
For each generation developing in society a common occurrence they face is scrutiny from the previous generation about their trends. If I had the opportunity to create a college course the enduring question would be “What does it mean to grow up?”
As we continue to grow up, we learn that being grown up is not as we imagined it. We once convinced ourselves that growing up was the goal to achieve, and life would be much better once we were in fact grown up. When we in fact do grow up, we think back at our youth and laugh because we thought growing up was the most wondrous thing to accomplish, but now, more than ever, we crave for our youth; for the days we would sit in the grass and daydream of what we are to become when we grow up; and finally for the days when life was simple and we could imagine it any which way we wanted it and no one could do a thing about it.
Adolescents are faced with a lot of pressure from many different people. They get put under pressure from their parents to their peers. They also get
We would like to start this speech off with a little comparison between what parents think and what we, being the teenagers, think. It is well known that parents and teenagers have not been always been known to agree on everything. Whether it was that haircut you got our that meal they tried to feed you. Sometimes we just don’t agree on everything. For instant, parenting in general, is often described differently depending on who you ask. According to some parents, “parenting is 50% love, 10% lies, 10% yelling and 30% unclogging toilets”. To them, “parenting is basically just listening to yourself talk because nobody else is.”. However, according to some, well most teenagers, “parenting is embarrassing us whenever, wherever 90% of the time”. To us, “parenting is having our own personalized cook, counsellor, chauffeur and bank”. So yeah, there's a little bit of controversy there. But parents, they’re great, I mean, it is an huge understatement to say that you guys are awesome! To
The youth is being asked to give up certain family and social values that were an integral part of their identity, and adopt in its place a sense of self-alienation, and become a self-estranged imitator of everything "modern".
Although, some teenagers face their problems. They plod along through school. Some of them get after-school or weekend jobs. They learn responsibility. Eventually, they enter adulthood and the work force. Successful, confident, and eager to work. They lead their lives using the knowledge they swallowed throughout their education and the power they gained. But not long after, they
