Whether for ecological or economic reasons, consumers are feeling a pressing need to purchase a fuel-efficient automobile. However, the array of choices on the market are staggering. Not only do consumers have the choice between different brands of automobile manufactures; manufacturers are also offering different types of fuel-efficient cars. Some fuel-efficient cars use traditional internal combustion engines alone; others offer the option to use alternative fuel sources like diesel and biodiesel; and others yet offer the opportunity to drive a car with an electric or a hybrid engine. The decision of which fuel-efficient car to purchase depends on several lifestyle factors. Price sensitivity and prestige are issues to be considered when making the choice between fuel efficient or hybrid car. Concern for the environment and for reducing dependence on fossil fuel might be an impetus for choosing hybrid over a fuel-efficient traditional car. Moreover, driving and usage patterns are among the most salient issues impacting the choice between a standard fuel-efficient car versus a hybrid electric car. Generally, standard fuel-efficient automobiles are better for drivers who are price sensitive and who drive longer distances less often, whereas hybrid electric automobiles will be more attractive to drivers who commute relatively short distances to work every day.
